    Thanks for the video and music lol. I have my bose ear pods in and the beginning of the song reminded me how good they are. I literally thought they cut out and my neighbors were playing music behind me. Sounded like it was up and over my left shoulder behind me.

    I normally build kayaks but found myself intrigued with this build. I learned a few things! But most of all it was great to see two people working their craft together! Its a beautiful thing!

    Outstanding result Brian A massive well done to you its a work of art, Couldn't find good supply of Cedar in Ireland so built a skin on frame using ash for ribs and deal as stringers skined it with nylon it turned out wicked after 3 coats of polyurethane i can watch the river flow by under the boat... great work man keep them coming.. it helps people like me to do what we do thanks

    Very nice work.i restore old canoes mostly chestnut,just finished an ogillvy 1908 that I found in the bush.i have done a complete rebuild 450 hours.this is the 20th one that I have done. I am in my 80th year I have 3 more on the go.i wish that I had a mould,can't find one and am too old to build one.you are a true craftsman along with your friend. I don't use staples as they rot the canvas even if there coated . I use eastern white cedar and white ash and laminate the stem bands.i also make my own paddles.people don't realize the work involved and don't want to pay a fair price.i work alone and find it hard to lift the canoe into the envelope.i give my canoes away to someone appreciates it.i am working on a 1951 bobs special that was broken into.wished I lived near you as I still have things to learn.keep. Your outer stem bands tight.

      Thanks for the comment. it's a great business to be in. I enjoy it immensely. I do a lot of restorations too. probably between 30 and 40 canvas jobs a year, but it's never as simple as just putting a new canvas on. ive had canoes where I've replaced 30 ribs and others where I've done 70 rib splices. nothing is beyond repair if you have the time.

      This was the coolest canoe video I have seen! I wish I had the time and money to make one of my own. I've always wanted a water worthy work of art that I could take my children out on, so they could learn the beauty and serenity of nature... Jack, if you're not too far from Ohio, I would love to come help you. Heck, maybe I'd learn enough to do a project of my own! :)
      Both of you have a beautiful skill! I wish I could've learned something like that growing up. :) God bless both of you and keep up the beautiful work!

    I loved your video. I obtained a replica Viking Canoe about 18 ft long. It has two sets of oar locks. One problem the previous owner had with it is keeping the craft going straight. It's hard to coordinate the rowers. I would like to put a keel and rudder so one person can concentrate on steering. I have two questions for you:1. Would you know anyone who may have plans ? and 2. What species of wood should be used?

    • @briancook6566
      @briancook6566  Před 5 lety

      Hi Richard. I'd love to see some pictures... . Brian@cookcraft.ca.
      For wood species, go with Ash or White Oak, not red oak.
