हमारे देश में माता लक्ष्मी के कई मंदिर हैं, लेकिन आज हम आपको जिस मंदिर के बारे में बताने जा रहे हैं, उसे 'दक्षिण भारत का स्‍वर्ण मंदिर' कहा जाता है। बताया जाता है कि इस मंदिर के निर्माण में लगभग 1500 किलो सोने का इस्तेमाल हुआ है।
प्रसिद्ध स्वर्ण मंदिर श्रीपुरम, दक्षिणी भारतीय राज्य तमिलनाडु के वेल्लोर शहर के दक्षिणी भाग में स्थित है। इस भव्य मंदिर को महालक्ष्मी स्वर्ण मन्दिर के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। पंजाब के अमृतसर में बने खूबसूरत गोल्डन टेम्पल की तरह ही वैल्लोर स्थित गोल्डन टेम्पल भी विश्व के अजूबों में शामिल है।
इसका निर्माण वेल्लोर स्थित धर्मार्थ ट्रस्ट श्री नारायणी पीडम द्वारा किया गया है, जिसके प्रमुख आध्यात्मिक नेता श्री सक्ती अम्मा है, जिन्हें नारायणी अम्मा के नाम से भी जाना जाता है।
इस स्वर्ण मंदिर का आकार बिल्कुल एक श्रीयंत्र की तरह दिखता है, जो बेहद आकर्षक है। महालक्ष्मी मंदिर का यह खूबसूरत मंदिर करीब 100 एकड़ के क्षेत्र में फैला हुआ है। इस भव्य मंदिर में निर्माण में तकरीबन 15,000 किलोग्राम विशुद्ध सोने का इस्तेमाल किया गया है।
मंदिर में 9 से 15 सोने की परतें हैं, जिन्हें शिलालेखों द्वारा सुशोभित किया गया हैं। मंदिर परिसर में धन की देवी माता महालक्ष्मी की 70 किलो सोने से बनी एक मूर्ति भी स्थापित है।
इस मंदिर के प्रवेश द्वार से मुख्य मंदिर की दूरी करीब 1.5 से 2 किमी. है। श्रीपुरम में एक तारानुमा पथ है जिसकी लंबाई लगभग 1.8 किमी है और जिस पर चलकर मंदिर पर पहुँचा जा सकता है। इस पूरे मार्ग में आपको धर्म और शास्त्र की बातें पढ़ने को मिलती हैं। मंदिर परिसर में एक 27 फुट ऊँची दीपमालिका भी है। इसे जलाने पर मंदिर वास्तव में माता लक्ष्मी का निवास स्थान लगने लगता है। सन् 2000 में मंदिर का निर्माण शुरू हुआ था और अगस्त २००७ को इसे श्रद्धालुओं के लिए खोल दिया गया था।
मंदिर में मुख्य रूप से माता लक्ष्मी की आराधना की जाती है। दर्शनार्थी मंदिर परिसर के दक्षिण से प्रवेश कर घड़ी की सुई की दिशा में (क्लाक वाईज) घूमते हुए पूर्व दिशा तक आते हैं, जहाँ से मंदिर के अंदर भगवान श्री लक्ष्मी नारायण के दर्शन करने के बाद फिर पूर्व में आकर दक्षिण से ही बाहर आ जाते हैं। दरअसल मंदिर का एक-एक भाग वैदिक नियमों के अनुसार बनाया गया है। श्रीपुरम में ही एक सामान्य अस्पताल और शोध केंद्र भी है। मंदिर परिसर में बाहर की तरफ एक सरोवर भी बना है, jise भारत की सभी प्रमुख नदियो से पानी लाकर बनाया गया है। इसे सर्वतीर्थम सरोवर के नाम से जाना जाता है। एक तारे की तर्ज पर बने इस मंदिर के आंतरिक और बाह्य भाग में बड़ी मात्रा में सोने का उपयोग किया गया है। अब तक विश्व में किसी भी मंदिर के निर्माण में इतना सोना नहीं लगा है।

The famous Golden Temple Sripuram is located in the southern part of the city of Vellore in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. This grand temple is also known as Mahalaxmi Golden Temple. Like the beautiful Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, the Golden Temple at Vellore is also one of the wonders of the world.
It is constructed by the Vellore-based charitable trust Sree Narayani Peedam, whose chief spiritual leader is Sree Sakthi Amma, also known as Narayani Amma.
The shape of this golden temple looks exactly like a Sriyantra, which is very attractive. This beautiful temple of Mahalaxmi Temple is spread over an area of about 100 acres. About 15,000 kg of pure gold has been used in the construction of this grand temple.
The temple has 9 to 15 gold layers, which are decorated with inscriptions. An idol of Mahalakshmi, the goddess of wealth, made of 70 kg gold is also installed in the temple premises.
The distance of the main temple from the entrance of this temple is about 1.5 to 2 km. Is. There is a star-shaped path in Sripuram which is about 1.8 km in length and which can be walked to reach the temple. In this whole path, you get to read the things of religion and scriptures. There is also a 27 feet tall Deepmalika in the temple premises. On lighting it, the temple actually seems to be the abode of Goddess Lakshmi. The construction of the temple started in 2000 and was opened for devotees in August 2007.
Mother Lakshmi is mainly worshiped in the temple. The visitors entering from the south side of the temple complex move clockwise and come to the east direction, from where after having a darshan of Lord Shri Lakshmi Narayan inside the temple, they again come to the east and come out from the south. There is also a general hospital and research center in Shripuram itself. There is also a lake on the outside of the temple complex, which has been made by bringing water from all the major rivers of India. It is known as Sarvatheertham Sarovar.
