`For me, the three keys to the Bombers' loss against Ottawa were, first of all, the two dropped passes early in the game. These were easily-caught throws to normally reliable receivers. Both instances ended drives that could have resulted in scores, and no doubt the drops interfered with Collaros's rhythm. I know from playing baseball that you throw differently to a player who has a good glove than you do to one who doesn't.
The second key was misuse of Streveler, and I am not talking about the failed attempts from the seven yard line--at least, not yet. Back when Bud Grant was coach (yes, I am that old) if Ken Ploen, our greatest all-time QB, was having trouble, Grant would pull him for a series or two and let Ledyard or Thornton take over. The change in QB would disrupt the defence, and it would also give Ploen a chance to recharge and go back into the game with a fresh outlook.
Finally, as Ray says, when you are seven years out, you run the ball on the first down. or at least run an option play.
