Yup, I mean I love other bands too and the deaths of members of those bands are sad but this one hurts especially bad, been a fan of Rush since the early 80s
well put, but i have to be honest - tried very hard to like Rush.. I could tell they were very good musicians individually, but after buying album after album (yes, albums-this was the 70's) looking for the magic , I thought I'd finally found it w/ 2112, the opening tune - BUT, It didn't stick...I just never felt it-even saw Rush more than once, as an opening act no less for The BOC and another time for Aerosmith. Anyway, my friend wasn't aware of Rush at that time and he was a keyboards player in a local band - well, one day we go to see them play and they open w/ Temples of syrinx? - He had borrowed my album!!!
You are absolutely correct. Rush is a band that affected you or didn't. If they did, they changed your life and that feeling of getting them was magical, life changing and forever from that point on. if you didn't u just hated them and that was it. The ones that do were blessed in my opinion.
This is when you stand atop the spiral stair, then exit stage left. Yet, More is to come; the NWO doesn't even have their Temples of Syrinx complete yet. The future world war is the 2112 Overture ending in destruction crashing sounds, not "the end of the world", but the full NWO birth into a very brief world rule. Could have called this album 2037. Then, shortly thereafter something else "assumes control".
Scott Wooley 77 for me. I was 13 and remember my friends big sister playing 2112. I became a RUSH fan instantly rocking hard to their music attending a few concerts along the way. I’m 55 now and still listen to Hemispheres, Bastille Day, Fly by Night And 2112 often. Thanks for the great music Neil!
I think part of what made Neil Peart so successful was that he had both of his parents support right from beginning right from the start. That has a tremendous impact on someone when their parents believe in them to do something. It wasn't like he rebelled or was in angst and frustrated so he went out on this quest to become a rockstar. He had a heartfelt desire to become a credible musician and he had the support of his parents - that's incredible.
He wasn’t just one of the greatest musicians ever. He was an incredible mind and spirit. He wrote all Rush lyrics, which many are simply poetry. A real intellect. Sadly missed! 😪 RIP Neil
Neil Peart was my hero since 5th grade. I'm 43 now. I thank this man & Rush for a body of work that was phenomenal. There will never be a band quite like them. So many great musicians did drugs to the point of dying before making it to 30. This band gave us their all up until the last second. They lead by example & didn't complain nor bitch about being snubbed by the Hall of fame for all of those years. They just put out more music year after year. Just knowing that we saw them from beginning to end was a wonderful experience & they did it with more class than anyone we've ever seen. R.I.P. Neil Peart
Well said, caress of steel hooked me in as a kid in 1975, I saw their last show in L.A. with my friend and his kid and RUSH was flawless.... I knew it was their last show because Neil took out his personal camera as Alex and Geddy turned to face him with all the fans in the background. Obviously this was planned, then surprisingly Neil joined them for a quick bow... First time I ever saw him do that, and it was bittersweet cause it hit me hard right then, I knew it would be the the last big show.... Now with all hope gone for any glimpse finally starting to heal and appreciate all that he was to so many good people.... One if the greatest humans in history....
@@latentsea I pay the same respect back to you. Very well written. These 3 men were the best 3 piece rock and ever in my opinion. Thank you for sharing your story. 🤘🏻
From humble beginnings to spending four decades in the greatest band on the planet. Neil was a brilliant lyricist and master musician. He was more than a drummer. He had the gift of taking percussion instruments and orchestrating them into a rhythmic journey, using the canvas of percussion sounds to produce artistry in its purest form. Rush would not have scaled the musical heights they did without him. The three of them together shared a unique chemistry, and were the perfect "counterparts" to each other. RIP Professor.
I had just finished cleaning the windshield on my car. Got in and buckled up, then decided to check my phone before I got back under way. The headline popped up and read 'Neil Peart drummer of the band Rush dead at 67'....I sat there shocked. I drove behind the gas station and texted my good friend John and told him, he was also shocked and bummed. I sat in my car for about 25 minutes before my eyes were clear enough to drive. This one was like a swift kick to the nuts....They have been my favorite band since '79. RIP Neil, thank you so much for the awesome lyrics. Specifically Freewill and Subdivisions. You were the greatest rock drummer of all-time!!

I was lucky enough to see him in person years ago. Back in the early 80’s on the ‘moving pictures’ tour. Great great tour. Those were the days and some of Rush’s best albums. RIP Neal. You will be missed. Legendary band. In fact....🤔gotta listen to some Rush tonight.
Same here as well. My uncle took me to my first concert on the Moving Pictures tour. That began my love affair with Rush. Best rock trio of all time. We are lucky to have a lifetime of their music to keep listening to.

My best friend told me about his passing and we shared that moment like we shared so many Rush concerts and late night gaming and drinking and eating binges to their music. Now it's been over a year since her own passing. Damnit

Rush was a major influence in my early music career. When I was 17 my mom and dad bought me a Rickenbacker 4001 just like Gettys For Christmas three out of my five sisters were tom boys even race motocross with me. My sisters went out and bought 2112 I was 13 years old. My sister said listen to this I sat down took a couple of puffs off a joint and she put on 2112 in my life was never the same. It was weird because no one really knew who they were it was like my own little hidden secret. I’m sickened and saddened by the death of Neil. I can’t even imagine how Alex and Getty are feeling. Still doesn’t seem real. But I still honor him by listening to one album a day. Listen to hemispheres today. Actually So blessed I seen the hemispheres concert in Salt Lake City at the salt Palace, I was able to see them seven times.
i am taking to my grave the memories of experiencing this man power of drumming, his lyrics, and his kindness, damnnn man, what a lost. I am glad i get to see the Professor live twicein my life, in Maryland during the Time Machine tour and in 2015 here in Washington during the R40 tour. RIP Professor.

NEIL PEART... What a wonderful drummer, lyricist, and soul. That most definitely is an understatement, but I don't know if anybody can verbally express the amount of appreciation that many around the world have for this man, including me. He has inspired generations and will continue to inspire generations of artists. Bravely expressing how it feels being an introvert, he has made me feel more of a relatable character to a part of the human race by displaying the fact that there are many shy folks out there too, but ,as he has shown, that doesn't mean you can't still take the role of being a bright, beautiful soul. I hope to hear you hammer away live in Heaven one day, and I hope that you are having a great time with your daughter and wife there as well!!! 🥁
