- I'm joined by Ramon Silva and we're going to provide a Masterclass in Deployment in Age of Sigmar (hopefully 🤞). Deployment is one of the most important phases in our game that will put you on the backfoot if done poorly. In this video we're going to share how we look at deployment and provide examples as well as considerations to help you win in Deployment.

Only 7 minutes into the video and taking a picture of deployment is such a simple but effective method for any tabletop game. Never would have thought of doing that consistently.
I ALWAYS take 2 photos in every game. First is deployment and the other with my opponent. I like doing it too because if I find my deployment works I want to be able to replicate it
As a newer player, only had two games, this is probably one of the most helpful videos i have ever seen.
Thank you very much Matt. I'm glad we've been able to help. There is a lot of learning in deployment... so hopefully it gets you firing on the tabletop
way more valuable info than the titel suggests...
This is exactly the sort of video I missed for the longest time: A top level overview on what kind of pieces exist, and how to deploy them into a gameplan.
Cheers mate. Glad you found it useful... there is a lot of things to consider with deployment and I know how confusing it can be to use what deployment strategy in which time
Thank you for making this video, having recently played my third game information like this is so good in helping me slowly improve.
Hopefully it helps you become a better deployer. Really focus on knowing your own army before focusing on your opponents as you’re learning
Vey true. But the mountain to climb just got so much higher....
Excellent chat on the fundamentals.
Cheers Neil.... hopefully it's helped with new ideas on doing deployment effectively.
Ramon is a man. A Warhammer man… deploys well, very well. Maybe the best, some might say yea.
🤣 what a song. Could be his own jingle if he made a channel
The example with his nighthaunt getting first turn and baiting his opponent into the center to get mauled by a double turn is gold. I think less experienced players crumble at the thought of being 400-500 points down at the end of turn 1 but to hear is confidence in his deployment is inpiring!
Nice content, very interesting and helpful as always.
What would have been cool would be to see live deplyoments in TTS with you going over the thought process in real time. But that's maybe too time consuming.
We’re on the same page here… i was thinking about demonstrating this in TTS in a future video. If people enjoyed this video i guess i better prioritise it 🤣
@@AoSCoach TTS let's you save games so you could many many saves of various deployments, counter deployments, end of turns saved. Could take a while, but actually maybe the community can share you save files and you could load them up and assess? Could be cool
@@AoSCoach Do it, man
Bump!
Thanks for posting this vid.
A while ago, I saw a Batrep on GMG with Steve and Luka, and afterwards they were commenting on the importance of deployment. They went so far as to say that sometimes, right after deployment, they already know who is most likely to win that mission and whether or not they should just rerack.
I wouldn’t say a bad deployment means an auto loss but you are on the backfoot and you have to work harder on making the right decisions. Like i shared on that screening photo… sometimes deployment mistakes can be very costly
Thanks Coach, this was a very refreshing video. Very informative. I hope we get to play a game soon, love to learn some plays from you
Our pleasure Lees... you never know when our paths will cross
That would be great. Saw that you also ran a Prime at the dice arcade last weekend!
@@weekendwargamers my prime kinda fell off the walls...
This is tremendously helpful. I’ve been playing Nighthaunt and struggled hard to figure out deploying and what to look for and think for and I’m currently building for Tzeentch where it’s going to only be even more important.
Awesome... glad it was helpful mate
I understand from a competitive perspective why you'd want to control first turn with low drops. But I play Beasts of Chaos and I feel like the army really wants all the betallion goodies it can grab. Embrace the 15 drop. By the time I've put my goats near the herdstone, stuck some Bestigors in ambush and put down a couple screens, nothing important on my end is on the board. We're 8 drops in and now my opponent is done deploying. I get to then see and respond to the way they deployed. Oh your high AC Elite boys are over there, that's the lane my Bullgors go on, big brick over there, that's where the Bestigors are gonna ambush. I get to dictate favorable match ups before first turn even starts.
First turn choice is a lose-lose for my opponent at this point. Let me go first and you just ceded first turn to the board control army that's gonna flood the board and pin you in with Chaff. If my opponent goes first then odds are decent they open up their back board for me to ambush on my 1st turn.
I do play TTS with my buddy though, so my experience in a friendly Meta of 1 may not be universal.
Great shout and as i mention in the video, i often play a lot of high drop armies. The key is to have a plan on if you’re given 1st or 2nd if you are high drops… it allows you to counter your opponents drops better, deploy in areas where your opponent isn’t focused on, etc.
Love your interviews and videos! The way you lead the talk/ interview etc. very good!! A bit the Joe Rogan of Warhammer (in a good way). Keep it ip pls! 👏🏼
Mate i might have to shave the head and lean in for those sweet Spotify dollars
"Look at the strength of those Orruks, those things could tear you in half like you're nothing! Btw have you ever tried warpstone dust?"
"I can't remember if that's within or wholly within, Jamie, look that up."
That stuff on the wall is trying to deploy itself!
🤣
Woohoo - home game table made a Coach video!
Stumbed on your photo… should have added your name on it for credit. Sorry
Just started the vid, and considering I get stomped every time because of bad deployment, I'm excited to learn a bit!
Hopefully this helps George. It’s an important phase so take what we say and apply it in context of your army.
Could you please make a video about nighthaunt deployment and how they can influence deployment through their special rules (and some units)?
If your troops are slow enough, you sure can lose the game in the deployment phase:)
(Nurgle here)
If you get yourself pinned it can make your battle uphill… luckily you’ve got Nurglings who come from reserve, Beasts who can retreat and charge, and flies who can get a pre-game move
Hey coach. I've stumbled upon your channel as I've started aos. your content is amazing. Thank you so much for doing what you do. Keep it up!
Thank you so much Gibby. I appreciate the comment and welcome to Age of Sigmar

for Sigmar!
The stormdrakes were postchange, no longer in move in heroes phase. 🥰 good game coach, -stormcast player with annihilators.
Sad face from a Stormcast player with Dragons 😥
Super helpful advice, thank you Coach. I’m still trying to figure out which is worse, going first or second. It seems that second player gets to dictate the Proving Grounds, and potentially win the double turn. Any opinions on that?
I wish I could give you a definitive answer. It's situational to your opponent, which turn, etc. I made a video in the 3rd edition playlist where I talk about going first and going second... it changes for me every round in every game.
Is that Daniel craig?
Yes. Done with real killing! Switched to Warhammer! 🎲
Damn… should have asked for his autograph
@@AoSCoach 100%.
Question: how do you play models with big places regarding placement on/between terrain pieces. The rules don't really specify this matter. Do you allow big models to stand on a small wall? How would you handle a Magmadroth or Shadowqueen going into the graveyard on the slide at 1:20:00?
Unless the terrain is impassible. These big models can go onto the terrain, and units which fly won’t have an issue landing on it. How comfortable you are to have your model wobbly on a terrain is up to you without making an agreement with your opponent.
I lost my game during the deployment phase. It was my first time playing lumineth and I put my sentinels too far forward. They got ran down by Chariots. I put wardens in front of them to defend against that chariot but they were all killed by impact hits and then the chairot piled into my sentinels. I also over estimated how tanky the lord regeant is and it go shoot off the field turn one by longstrikes. If I deployed everything but the wardens on my backline the wardens would still get wiped out but I would have turned the game around on my turn.
I guess the question is, do you have enough Warden support to protect the Sentinels if they are key to your win conditions? Would adding some more Wardens or something else improve your armies ability to survive that type of hit or are you putting too many eggs in one basket. Food for thought
@@AoSCoach I reinforce the wardens to twenty and now my opponents just can't chew through them all.
what is the double turn? and how can you have it?
A double turn is a mechanic in Age of Sigmar. At the conclusion of every battle round (we both have a turn) we then roll a dice to see who can choose to go first in the next battle round. It’s essentially playing with the sequence order
How to deal with heavy shooting armies where my enemy gives me the first round? Soulblight user.
Talking broadly because there is a lot to unpack here. You want to limit the impact of shooting... Finest Hour & Mystic Shield your Vampire Lord on Zombie Dragon and charge it into the shooting unit, pinning them in and doing damage while being able to soak up unleash hell. While this is all happening you're using your bodies to score the objective and deny your opponent from getting onto them. You could use Fellbats to soak up the Unleash Hell, you could hide units in gravesites to protect them from a round of shooting... etc
The live chat feed on this is super distracting.
Otherwise an outstanding video. Thank you

Aos coach should play ramon a game . If ya know ya know🤷🏼…
Who knows Chef… maybe we’ll meet up at the tables of LVO
Any leak for new battletomes?
Nothing that i’ve seen yet
Terrain maps/TO setup terrain isn't good. Deploying terrain is one of the big tactical advantages to being defender. There are lots of tactical decisions involved in how terrain is setup. Otherwise losing the roll-off is too punishing.
there is a balance on how to do it... and certainly some rules that need to be in place otherwise it can be one sided.
west coast best coast
I thought it was Beast Coast
Scal United is the best club
Shout out to the club… there was a shirt there
Woot woot
ngl this one was kinda of hard to watch/follow.
So many random tangents with no real end or point.
Fair enough... hopefully you still took a few ideas away. The point though is that there is no 1 set way of doing deployment and it is a combination of thoughts that get us the best outcome based on opponent, battle plan, terrain, etc.
Cool video but waaaay too long.
It was a master class mate... couldn't do it in 30 minutes 🤣
