  • Rather than improve the town centre, decent paving and shop fronts, they have developed the surrounds and destroyed the town centre. It could be so much better. I will go back to Nottingham but not Mansfield.

Those old buildings have massive style. I don't know a thing about heritage listing up there, but that's what's needed to protect the old structures. They carry the hopes and dreams of their builders.

Thank you for the tour. I have fond memories growing up in Mansfield and especially the Town Mill on Sunday/Wednesday rock nights ! Its a shame to see it in this state now - The water wheel as I remember was inside the pub next to a spiral staircase between the floors.

I was born in Mansfield and it was once a thriving market town, I moved away many years ago. Unfortunately out of town shopping centres and the internet have killed places like this, it will never come back.

I've noticed Mansfield is changing rapidly, not the same when I was a child, and the rosemary centre was the biggest shock having been emptied 7 months tomorrow, and also it started changing when Burton and Topman clothes stores shut 4 years ago at Christmas, not been the same without them

On the whole i didn't think Mansfield looked too bad. Certainly easy to make improvements.
Didnt see any homeless, beggars or spice heads and looked quite clean. Good choice of shops, nice buildings and plenty of pubs.
I think last time I went there was two wetherspoons next door to each other.

My dad didn't realise how bad Sheffield was from my videos, until he saw it last Friday. Some of the paving was moving under my feet, it all needs replacing and the old shop fronts painted up.

Ayup Tim, great vlog mate, I think our generation will become the last to know about vibrant market towns as they used to be!! It seems that all the good stuff comes to an abrupt end while all the crap goes on forever... Mansfield has certainly taken a dive like all the other surrounding towns...no progress, just decline... Such a shame Tim... Thanks for the tour mate...👍

    Brilliant video again Tim.
Mansfield had no passenger train service 1965-95. That line was just used by coal trains servicing the various pits.
The Rosemary Centre was once Cashers Textiles, my mother worked there as a weaver in the 1960s. In the 1980s it was developed into a shopping complex, Argos and several other big name stores were based there. It's been derelict for 10 years and rumours of a Lidl opening there are rife.
The Taco Bells site was where the old bus station once was. The decorative metal clad multistorey is a car park, Tesco used to be located there underneath where B&M Bargains are now. The derelict building opposite was once a pub called Stockwells, a very lively venue up until the 2000s.
Four Seasons opened in 1977, many Victorian buildings were demolished to develop it.
Saint Peters Church actually had the graves excavated in 1960s when the ring road was built and went straight through the churchyard.
There were far more shops, market stalls, pubs and clubs up until the 2000s. The population of Mansfield now stands at 108,000, it was only 80,000 in the 2000s. Most of this via immigration. Apparently the local MP has secured 72 million pounds investment over 7 years.
