Origins is NOT in 1979 for these reasons:
-it would mean that Wolverine was in Vietnam in 1973 but Days of Future Past contradicts that by putting him in New York on the same day Mystique kills Trask.
-Stryker didn't recognize Wolverine when he saw him in Paris. This indicates that their official meeting in prison was in 1975.
-Gambit implied that the nuclear meltdown had already happened on the plane ride to Three Mile island and he was locked up for 2 years on that island.
-For someone who is supposed to be in their mid-40's, Charles Xavier looks way too old to be that age.
      And
-the humvees in the motorcycle chase scene didn't go into production until 1984.
Also, X1 and X2 are NOT in 1994 because:
-an N*SYNC song was playing on the radio but the group didn't exist yet in '94.
-the blackbird photo has a 2002 timestamp.
      And
-Beast's magazine in X3 was published in October 2005.

Jonathan Uriostegui In X2, the blackbird photo has a 2002 timestamp on it and Beast's magazine in X3 has the publishing date of October 2005. There's no way the original trilogy is set in the 90's based on those items and according to the timeline chart on Empire magazine, a few years had passed since Stryker had recruited Wolverine and Sabertooth. It also said that Wolverine quit the team in 1979 putting the rest of the movie in 1985.

guilherme siqueira not gonna happen. Now that Disney bought Fox's movie and television divisions (minus news and sports), the X-men, Wolverine, Deadpool, Fantastic Four and all of their associated characters will revert back to Marvel and Marvel Studios will get to introduce their own versions of these characters into the MCU. The only existong version of the character I can see surviving the transition is Deadpool and it's solely because of how Deadpool breaks the fourth wall and the fact that Deadpool was only loosely connected to any of the other X-men movies to begin with. The last movies we will get from the Fox X-men universe will be Deadpool 2 in May, X-mem: Dark Phoenix in November and New Mutants in April next year or so and that's the end of the line for this franchise. That of coarse assumes that Disney and Marvel Studios don't put the kibosh on one or more of the movies so they can have the opportunity to tell these stories themselves without being redundant. Deadpool 2 is coming out for sure. I think its a done deal for New Mutants at this point too, but I wouldn't be too shocked if they shut down the X-men movie so that Marvel Studios can say they did the Dark Phoenix Saga right when they eventually get to making X-men movies. Maybe we will eventually see X-23 in the Marvel Cinematic Universe at some point, but I guarantee that it won't be the version of the character from Logan and we might not see the character again for a while in any iteration on the big screen.

When Prof. X says "they are waiting at the statue of liberty" (which he said in a not so clear state of mind) what he is referencing was the motel which had a statue of liberty sign as its logo. Logan himself was just remembering the previous timeline, Prof X was not.

      NO.
Logan doesn't happen after the new timeline, because in that movie no mutant was born after the year 2004, so it's a third divergent timeline.
That theory about Xavier taking the memories of the original timeline makes no sense because there's no indication of him having any of them in Apocalypse or Dark Phoenix, or even DoFP itself, where Wolverine has to tell Xavier the names of Jean, Scott and Storm to make sure he'd eventually meet them.
On the other hand Xavier and Wolverine in Logan don't seem to have any memory from the new timeline, so it makes more sense to say that the Logan timeline diverges after the original trilogy, which is also the implication from a narrative standpoint: the actors and even the writer and director James Mangold (who directed The Wolverine) created the roles working off of their relationship established in the original trilogy, not the reboot.

Either way you're saying that you can ignore certain details, disregarding them as mistakes, because you want to have Logan happen in a certain point in the timeline? Fine, but here's the thing: why would you want it happening in the future timeline then? If you're going to chose a placement first and adjust the "mistakes" later, the only criterion you should follow is the narrative flow of the series, and even in that case Logan was written as a conclusion to Wolverine and Xavier's friendship as told in the original trilogy. They mention events from the first movie, you have Patrick Stewart channeling his original performance... it's once again a soft reboot, it ignores previous sequels to tell us an alternative end to the trilogy.

Juan Castellanos Everyone is thinking that these films were meant to have an absolute continuity, when we all know that they were just making it up as they went along. Everyone should ignore the little cameos and subplots and focus on the major story at hand. We can assume that the timeline post DOFP happened almost exactly the same save for some minute details and events here and there.
For example, Psylocke was a teenage girl in an X3 cameo yet there she was as an adult in Apocalypse. And let's not forget Angel being in Apocalypse and the same age in X3. And the list goes on. Trying to decipher X-Men film continuity is a waste of time because it's not supposed to make sense or be in order. Events and characters and subplots were used to full effect in each film to tell and enhance that particular story.

To those who are confused about what timeline Logan takes place in:
    Original Timeline:
    *X-Men First Class
    *X-Men Origins: Wolverine
    *X-Men
    *X2
    *X-Men: The Last Stand
    *The Wolverine
*The f***ed up future in Days of Future Past (where pretty much every mutant is dead)
    New Timeline:
*X-Men First Class (the events of this movie take place in both timelines, because the 60's were never changed)
*Parts of X-Men Origins: Wolverine (the parts before Logan gets adamantium)
*The events in the 70's from Days of Future Past
    *X-Men Apocalypse
*The happy future at the end of Days of Future Past
*Logan (where pretty much every mutant is dead)
So, no matter which timeline happens, the mutant race is nearly wiped out either way, thus confirming Hank McCoy's theory in Days of Future Past, that no matter what you do, the timeline will always re-correct it's course (his whole, throwing a rock in the river metaphor).
    Unknown Timeline:
*Deadpool- It is unknown which timeline Deadpool takes place in, considering it's set in modern times (2015 or 2016), and the fact that Wade Wilson is about the same age that he was in Origins (which is set in the early 70's), and the fact that we have a different Colossus, it's entirely possible that Deadpool takes place in its' own timeline completely, and that the sequels and future X-Force movies will be completely separate from the X-Men timelines (there will be no more movies set in the original timeline, which I thought was obvious after Days of Future Past, but apparently a lot of people didn't get the memo, because a lot of comments are people trying to convince others that Logan is set in the original timeline, which it is in fact not.

    • @ColtonG826
      @ColtonG826 Před 7 lety +8

X-Men First Class is the only film that 100% takes place in both timelines. The events of the original X-Men might have still taken place in the new timeline (since Charles references Logan's time as a cage fighter, and the Statue of Liberty in the film "Logan"), but we don't know how much is changed. We also don't know if Apocalypse ever woke up during the original timeline, so it's entirely possible that similar events in X-Men Apocalypse took place in the original timeline. But, like I said, the only film that is confirmed to appear in both timelines is First Class, because the 60's were not tampered with during the time traveling fiasco in Days of Future Past.

We have a different Angel and Psylocke in x-men apocalypse from the ones in x-men last stand. Because Wolverine traveled back in time, it also changed the history of other characters and the timing of other events.

If you even just watch the mini series Band of Brothers, which follows American paratroopers who jumped into Normandy France on D-day, and eventually made their way into Germany by the end of the war and were days away from transferring to the pacific theater, even though they didn't need too, so it is possible Logan could have became a POW for a short period in Japan.

      Well SPOILERS
Apparently the movie states that Logan is dying because of metal poisoning. Which gives me the impression that Logan's body cannot keep up with his age because his bones are non compatible with his body anymore.
This is just a hypothesis but given the state of Logan in the movie, he slowly heals until his body gives out completely. If it wasn't for Logan's adamantium skeleton, Logan would probably would have lived longer because his bones can age slowly, just like in X-Men Origins. When Logan was given the adamantium skeleton, I believe his age was compatible with it for quite a while. However, his healing factor may have been slowly nullifying because his metal skeleton is basically permanent damage. His healing factor cannot heal his skeleton. Which kinda explains in the movie why Logan has a really hard time summoning his claws. He can barely pull them out. It gives me the impression that his healing factor is no longer compatible with his skeleton, therefore, dying slowly by adamantium poison and higher risk of dying by taking too much damage.
      ...theoretically.
      This is just speculation.

His healing ability was still trying to fight it but it took a toll on him. With his healing powers dampened, that's when the adamantium started to poison him. If it hadn't been for the actions of Zander Rice, I think his body would still be fighting off the metal poisoning just fine.

If I'm not mistaken Xavier took his twin brother's body (that's why he looks exactly the same), he probably used the wheelchair because that body was laying around for a few years. Also, when Logan "went back to the future", his "young" body lost his future self's psyche, so probably lost all those extra memory, also I'm fairly sure he got his memory wiped in that timeline (too), so he wasn't as old mentally.

I remember Colossus being concerned with Negasonic Teenage Warhead's health. The mutant poison could have had effects on kids and elderly first before grown up X-men could have felt anything. Which might explain why seven mutants was killed by Xavier due to his seizures. (Scott, Night-crawler, Jubilee, Storm, Mystic, Colossus, Quicksilver)(my guess)

I recon some of them even get paid more than some regular office workers.
