How to make lilac syrup

Make the most of this late spring flower that is beautiful in appearance, fragrance and taste.
Lilac syrup is easy to make and so versatile:
Use it in water or sparkling water, add to ginger ale, mix with lemon for lemonade, add to herbal tea or coffee, use as a pancake or waffle topping, mix into yoghurt, pour over ice cream, sweeten a fruit salad, add to vodka or gin, use as the drizzle in lemon drizzle cake or use to moisten a sponge by brushing over.

Only buddliah looks a little similar to lilac, but lilac is very beautifully fragranced.

Do you wash the flowers first for bugs or pollen from other trees etc?

Yes you can do.
I didn't as the pollen adds to the flavour. Pleased to report no bugs found 😆
