    If you love Hydretain, you should try a cheaper alternative, Revive which comes in a 64oz hose spray bottle or by the gallon and run through a hose sprayer. I had an issue on my front lawn with a slight hill. I've used Revive for the last few years and have had great results and saved money over Hydretain. The 64oz size of Revive which covers 2,000 sq ft was available at Home Depot in the beginning of the season for around $17. Its now out of stock. I usually stock up in the beginning of the season and spray every 4-6 weeks. Revive also is available in a granular form which I have never tried. Just a thought. Would be interesting to test both Revive and Hydretain side by side. GREAT VIDEO !

      If you look at the details Hydretain is the more cost effective product. Revive is a wetting agent that helps water penetrate into and distribute through the soil. It also contains iron and other additives to promote color and other benefits. The Revive web site says it last no longer than 6 weeks and in severe situations there is a need to spot treat every 3 to 4 weeks. Hydretain has 10% wetting agent that achieves the same results as Revive, but 80% if the product is the water condensing material that prevents the soil from drying out again for 3 months. If you look at the cost of applying Revive every 3 to 6 weeks versus Hydretain's every 3 months, Hydretain has the cost advantage. Plus it helps reduce watering by a third to half which also adds to its cost advantage, particularly when you are paying for municipal water.

      @@BioProTechnologies Totally understand your point about the claim that Hydratain lasting longer then Revive , but I believe the lower cost of Revive balances out to somewhat the equation . Also, I puchase Revive in the Gallon size which definately saves more and just use my Ortho hose sprayer filled to 32oz undiluted which will cover 1000 sq ft. I'm not putting down Hydratain, it is a good product, just giving an alternative. I can only speak for the results I get with Revive and a nice color boost from the iron it contains. For me, i spray every 6 weeks in the heat of the summer and have gotten excellent results. Appreciate your comments.

      Used this product last year on the back yard alone and felt there was a good result. Purchase the gallon jug this year and filled the handheld hose end sprayer and sprayed away a few hours ago. Will cover both front and back yard now.

    I always wondered if the trick to hydretain being so effective was twofold- a) all the water at app time, b) people watering more the days following, to not “waste” their app. It’s nice to see more positive results without the excessive watering!

    • @Brettsgrasscapades
      @Brettsgrasscapades  Před 4 lety +1

    Hydretain has definitely helped keep my park strip going this season. Pushing 90’s the last two weeks and it’s hanging in there. Of course I’m irrigating but it’s been toast in years past without.

  • @andyslawncareandoutdooradv

    Seems to work very good imo. I am watering Monday, Wednesday, Friday and getting a 1/2" and its been a super stressful summer but the lawn is hanging on very well without hydretain. If it starts to struggle I'll definetly get some!

    Wait.. if you only water every 3 days on your normal schedule, you have watered at least once but probably twice since you put down the hydratain. That is Probably 1” total. You also used 1/2 inch when you watered the hydratain in. This means in the last 5 days you have added at least 50% more water then you normally would. I think this is a better explanation for the recovery. I think we need to wait a couple of weeks before calling this.

    • @Brettsgrasscapades
      @Brettsgrasscapades  Před 4 lety +1

    • @Tundra_Guy

      It's a gimmick product. More water equals better recovery from stress. It's the water working for you, not this expensive miracle in a bottle.

    • @BioProTechnologies
      @BioProTechnologies Před 4 lety

      @@Tundra_Guy Hydretain is no gimmick. Look at the research section of their website. There is plenty of university and other research that shows that it reduces water on turf, and in agriculture between 20 and 50%. I know golf courses who have used it to successful treat dry spots since the mid 1990's.
