    That is a beautiful piece. Sanyo made the 2900k. People overlook Toshiba, Sanyo, Hitatchi for the sexy brands, but there are some seriously top notch offerings from those brands if you know what to look for when hunting.

    Now that's a heavy duty design, no silly stk/sanken output modules in that!.
    And a screened toroildal mains transformer, not cheap in it's day.
    I've had to take the function switches apart and clean the plates and delicate sliders.
    Cleaning spray doesn't always do the job.

    Very nice receiver, reminds me of my Pioneer SX-1250. Toshiba had a very good but much overlooked higher end audio line back then. Same with Mitsubishi, Sanyo, Hitachi and a few others. It’s great to find one in the wild that no one suspects of being worthy!

    Speaking of the SA-7150, guess how I originally found your channel? From the video you posted years ago working on an SA-7150. I found it because I was buying one and was doing some research first. It turned out to be a fantastic music machine, these things are hidden gems of the "monster" receiver category.

      And he got it for free. He is 3rd owner. I serviced this way back for previous owner.
      I laugh when i hear people spending hundreds or thousands for old receivers because so many are just given away. I have not paid a penny for the stuff I have and I will gladly take some phools money for it.

    Love, love, LOVE this receiver. What an absolute beauty and beast all rolled into one. Also, at 9:20-something- it won't sound a bit lower one side to me, only one speaker working on my laptop any more & you already know my ears are getting well-worn... Was just watching one of your older vids on a Toshiba Walky (The red one, smaller than the cassette it was supposed to play if it hadn't been killed by a sticky tar belt). That's two bits of Toshiba kit I'd love to see but likely never will lol

    Dual mono would have a separate transformer for each channel.

    • @12voltvids
      @12voltvids  Před 3 lety

      Not necessarily. Dual mono is anything that has a seperate power supply. Even if they share the same iron it can have 2 secondaries. As long as they have seperate rectifiers and main filters caps they can be a dual mono design. A mono block amp has 2 senerate transformers and usually puts the amplifiers is completely seperate boxes. Some will use the same secondary but with 2 rectifiers and filters. These were called dual power supply. Akai made several integrated amps that were that design.
