How strong was Samson ? He was strong enough to pull out of the ground Gaza's city gates that may have weighed as much as 1,000 lbs, and carried them on his back some 37 miles UP the mountain that faced Hebron.(Judges 16:3) And what was the source of his strength ?
At Judges 15, Samson had been bound with new ropes by some 3,000 men of Judah in order to hand him over to the Philistines. Verses 14 and 15 now says: "When he came to Leʹhi, the Phi·lisʹtines shouted triumphantly at meeting him. Then Jehovah’s (holy) spirit (or life force, in which Jehovah is God's name, see Isa 12:2, KJV) empowered him, and the ropes on his arms became like linen threads that were scorched with fire, and his fetters melted off his hands. He now found a fresh jawbone of a male donkey; he reached out and grabbed it and struck down 1,000 men with it."
Samson was able to carry both city gates of Gaza weighing about 1/2 ton some 37 miles up a mountain and to break the ropes he was tied with and then slaughter 1,000 Philistine men with the fresh jawbone of dead donkey because Jehovah God empowered Samson with his holy spirit, as long as he did not cut his hair, and kept the Nazirite vow, whereby he also was to avoid any alcohol or even eat any grapes.(Num 6:1-7)
Another example of Jehovah empowering his servants is at 1 Kings 18, when King Ahab met up with his "nemesis" of Elijah, after Israel had suffered a drought for some 3 1/2 years, and the land was parched and dry, no food growing, Elijah came to be in the middle of the challenge between Jehovah God and the false god Baal, because "the people were limping between two different opinions".
Elijah's sacrifice to Jehovah was totally consumed, even the water that had been used to drench it, while Baal's prophets could not get a thing from their false god, and Elijah then told the fickle Israelites to seize the some 850 prophets (that included 400 prophets to the "sacred pole" or sex goddess Asherah), that were then were then slaughtered at the stream of Kishon, near Mt Carmel.
Elijah now told his attendant to go the Mediterranean Sea seven times, and on the 7th time, the attendant saw a small cloud like a man's hand forming over the water, whereby Elijah told his attendant to tell Ahab: "Go, say to Ahab, ' Hitch up the chariot ! Go down (from Mt Carmel) so that the downpour may not detain you ! " The account now says that "the hand of Jehovah (or Jehovah's holy spirit) came on Elijah, and he wrapped his garment round his hips and ran ahead of Ahab (outrunning his chariot) all the way to Jezreel", some 19 miles away.
And how was Jesus able to perform the miraculous healings (Matt 9:35), raise the dead (John 11:42, 43), and walk on water (Matt 14:25, 26), turn water into fine wine ?(John 2:1-11) By means of Jehovah's holy spirit, that is called "God's finger" at Luke 11:20.(see also Luke 4:18)
