Lyrics
[SPEAK TO ME] The memories of a man in his old age - are the deeds of a man in his prime - You shuffle in the gloom of the sick room - and talk to yourself as you die - For life is a short, warm moment - and death is a long, cold rest - You get your chance to try - in the twinkling of an eye - Eighty years, with luck - or even less - So all aboard - for the American tour - and maybe, you’ll make it to the top- But mind how you go - and I can tell you, ‘cause I know- You may find it hard to get off - You are the angel of death - and I am the dead man’s son - He was buried like a mole in a fox hole - And everyone’s still on the run.
[BREATHE] Breathe, breathe in the air - Don’t be afraid to care - Leave, but don’t leave me - Look around and choose your own ground - For long you live and high you fly - Smiles you’ll give and tears you’ll cry - And all you touch and all you see - Is all your life will ever be - Run, rabbit, run - Dig that hole, forget the sun - And when at last the work is done - Don’t sit down, it’s time to dig another one - For long you live and high you fly - But only if you ride the tide - And balanced on the biggest wave - You race towards an early grave .
#RogerWaters #TheDarkSideOfTheMoon - Hudba
And after 50 years, everyone’s still on the run…
And after 50 years, the sun is still the same in a relative way. And all of us are shorter of breath, and one day closer to death.
@@FroBro98No one told us when to run , ..we missed the starting gun..hahah
And after 50 years people get that cash with thyre both hands and make a stash

@@ChicoStopMotion man that too far
Getting old isn't easy. The opening lyrics from Free Four some it up very well. When you are approaching the long cold rest, it sharpens parts of the mind. very atmospheric and the best outtake so far.imo
Old age is a privilege which has been denied to plenty of us.
Getting old is utterly easy. All you have to do is not die. It may not be enjoyable sometimes, but it's hardly as grim as Roger thinks it is. But then again, Roger thinks everything is grim.
That's not an outtake, that's the actual recording that'll be on the album.
That's not an outtake, that's the actual recording that'll be on the album.
Them lines are from free four off obscured by clouds bullwinkle
I love the Free Four lyrics with this new soundscape! I feel the original track from Obscured By Clouds was way too happy and upbeat and the music didn't much the darkness and melancholy of Roger's lyrics. The new redux version of Breathe is also amazing! You can hear in his voice, an 80 year old man looking back to his past knowing his death isn't far away. That send chills down my spine! Dear Roger, you may have lost your father in the war but you've been like a father to me growing up and your music has got me through some really hard times in my life...I will never forget that as long as I live...
But the solo is amazing
@@mire4748 I didn't say anything about the solo. All of David's solos are amazing! I was talking about the overall composition.
This was on dark side
@@kostashantzis6081 honestly I don't know why I put "but" in last comment. All I wanted to say is, solo is amazing and to me whole obscured by clouds is amazing..
@@mire4748 it's not one of favourite records to be honest. I mean I like it a lot but I find the earlier experimenral period much more interesting and engaging. And of course from Dark Side to The Wall is the golden period! I might be the only person alive who prefers the More soundtrack over Obscured By Clouds. Much more beautiful and dreamy compositions like Cirrus Minor and Cymbaline. A Psychedelic Folk masterpiece in my eyes!
Rog has gone completely dark. It's really amazing. I really love the concept, always did and knew the meaning behind, but he emphasize on this and and the result is just wonderful and it's so good. Roger is a sometimes misunderstood but truly brilliant artist.
As many fine artists eventually become thru life's attritions... Samuel Langhorne Clemens sure wasn't warm & fluffy in his Golden Years.
Roger Waters is a poet, a genius at writing dark and depressing concept albums. The lyrics mean everything to Roger, but he was never good at writing melodies or guitar riffs to his lyrics. That was David Gilmour's job.
He's always been that dark, it was just the other band mates bringing up the mood more with their talented music playing
@@sexthannmemes2946 lol

That note on the keyboard at the beginning of Breathe is absolutely breathtaking! No pun intended. It is everything. It's like the iconic PING on Echoes. It shakes your soul and awakens your mind!
Hey you should look up a band called The Doublejumps if you like Pink Floyd
Always thought there's a note on every album that ties them all together, a symmetry if you will.
The best and only good bit. The segue from Free Four into Breathe is atrocious.
First Reaction, I actually kinda liked it. Incorporating the Lyrics from FREE FOUR fits in nice. ROGER however for his Lyrical Genius gets too Wordy. Should have left it at 'Death is a Long Cold Rest'...Keep it Abstract for the listener to Interpret themselves.
@grabgrabgrabthegrab hey man appreciate your enthusiasm but people are here to respond to roger. Bombing the replies with your incessant peddling is quite annoying.
Roger was certainly an Oracle then, I am sure he still wants people to realize the strength of a certain time. September 6th was Roger's 79th Birthday. Happy Birthday Roger Waters. 🎉🎸
Easy there🤫. Roger doesn't want people making a fuss about his you know what. He has a standing order! Peace!
50 years later, these lyrics become more relevant than ever! It's like they waited for half a century to shine (even more). You definitely know what you're doing, Roger!

@@grabgrabgrabthegrab I respect Pink Floyd and always listen with great pleasure.
Started listening when i was 13, i'm 24 now and it still gives me chills. This redux feels like it's a conversation between an older man and his younger self, travelling through time. Thank you for this, Roger.

@@mc-lb9dk that is very nice to hear. i'm glad you've been able to enjoy it for so long and, as the song says, with luck, for many more years to come.

Well said, fbsupernova.
Started listening to this in 1973. I'm 60 now. Do the math.
To be fair i have been a critic of this! However i admit i was wrong & treating it as a piece of Art & not trying to compare to the original as that's unfair as the original is original! The free four works & the more ive listened to all the released material got to admit it definitely has grown on me & Kudos to Roger me old friend! 💯👌⭐️
Mr. Waters boldly goes where no one has gone before...Live long and prosper!
I fall in love with country music since I heard his songs, sorry for invading your privacy, am Kate Merez. Are you a lover of country music too??
I dig the addition of the lyrics from Obscured By Clouds, which is an underrated album. Shine On, You Crazy Diamond!
Yet again, I like this a lot! This sounds as fresh and avant garde as the original album and its concept! Screw the haters that can't appreciate this fine music and poetry. They must have dung for ears and brains.
Hey you should look up a band called The Doublejumps if you like Pink Floyd
Like literally. You had the original album that dealt in large with the passing of time, the ephemeral nature of life and its "ups and downs". It is now reimagined through the perspective of a much older person, who probably did go through most, if not all of the things portrayed in the original. And the new album reflects that through the more "tired" vocals and the tamer instrumentals.
And you have these morons who keep comparing them like "yeah the original is better" or "no, this one's better than the original".
Neither is better, both just "ARE".

He's now doing a lyrical retrospective now that he's hit 80 and experienced (nearly) everything he was worrying about.
I think it's more accurate to say that he sounded depressed then and sounds even more depressed now.

What do I love most about these new versions? Roger's voice in the lyrics he wrote. And of course like everyone else I love the original versions. I now have two ways to enjoy the dark side of the moon experience.
Además de las versiones live
What I like is how much it makes me appreciate the late great Rick Wright and David Gilmour.
So, many people saying, "the new version of DSOTM sucks " but seriously only listening whole album from beginning to the end allows to critique. Because The Dark Side is a masterpiece in one piece not sliced . Roger is a great Composer we should wait until the whole album get released.

Still running myself but like Roger Waters getting closer to the end, a race that was made just a little more bearable by Mr. Waters. Despite his age he still seems to be able to kick it out of the park. Love these fresh new arrangements of the music of my youth. I remember as a fourteen year old 'cello student being first played this record by my music teacher in 1973. It literally changed my life.
I don't think elevators would want this cr-p being played inside them.

its 5 am and i am in tears. the opening lyrics off the obscured by clouds album??? the somberness of it all???? oh my GOD. too too good. i’ve been approaching this redux with nervous excitement, but consider my expectations blown out of the water with this one. fuck.
I'm impressed... We all grew up with Roger's music. And now it sounds very soulful...
I stood here in the kitchen listening to Rogers vocal and I could literally feel the depth of his contemplation and relationship with death. What it means to him to live and to die well... almost no one dares to speak of dying a beautiful death, and being ready because you chose to live first and die second. This song shines the light through the thinnest vale into the existence many of us live and honestly if you take a long deep meaningful look into what death looks like for you it will bring more meaning into your LIFE now and it will awaken your hearts Desires and bring you back to LIFE ...let's speak of finding our own ground now before we are 6 foot under and let's acknowledge the selfishness that is at times apsolutely necessary to find real JOY for yourself and REAL peace. This is achieved by releasing the need to put others happiness above your own happiness. He says stop living for others instead embrace your own happiness you can feel him run deep inside his own gloriousness in this quest and he is chasing the proverbial white rabbit into the darkness as he embraces his own inner light ... he acknowledges his own inner truth he has embraced his monster and he communicates with his demon and all the while he clings to the hope that he has more time to run and experience more joy and that his existence has meaning and purpose for him. The most honest adventure that we can choose is to choose to be HAPPY. I love the HONESTY inside the walls of the mind of this magnificent soul. We can spend a lifetime stacking the deck and then we wake up from our 80 year corpses slumber and in a moments realisation we get it.... The purpose for our existence. W have become the value of the man measured against the porcelain statue erected so long ago by someone else and we don't recognise ourselves against it. begin to live today.... before it's all gone and in the blink of an eye it is....Thank you for sharing your magnificence with us ❤ Love Shemaine xx
That was deep. Best interpretation I've heard ever. Well done!
Thank you for reading my words and for responding with such a kind comment. I love this song, it moved me deeply ❤️ Love Shemaine

Absolutely amazing. I love Free Four so much and I've always thought it was some of Rogers best lyrics.
I particularly love the way there is a deep intention in every word sung allowing the listener to reflect on each passing phrase. The lyrics have a certain punch now that they didn't have previously. I get a LOT of Leonard Cohen vibes. Amazing redux for sure !
i love that he included "Free Four" in this too
I remain on the fence about this project. On one hand, adding new perspective to one of the greatest albums of all time is a welcome refreshment - who wouldn't want more DSOTM? On the other hand, is Roger really up to it? If DSOTM didn't exist, would we be listening to this 2023 body of work? And add in all of Roger's narcissism and dismissiveness toward his former band mates, and it really leaves me uncomfortable. But one thing is certain, Waters clearly has earned the right to be bold on this matter...
Hey you should look up a band called The Doublejumps if you like Pink Floyd
He seems to be determined to airbrush his former band mates out his musical past and claim the glory for himself. I find it sad really.
@@davidsaxon3011 That aspect is a touch pathetic - it won't happen. His solo work clearly establishes that the band was at an entirely different level.

The absolute ingenuity of what you are engaging in here, and at this point in your life, is so utterly captivating & wonderfully inspiring. Love it!
Strangely enough, he’s obviously played these song with his band, so there is a comfortable vibe to the music; like it’s familiar to the people playing it; so it almost has a rehearsed feeling… like a very well performed show.
I think knowing, (if Rog acknowledges it or not), that it’s originally a work of collaboration, it’s really an interpretation of a bands album that came out 50 years ago, as opposed to a fresh work by one man etc. In that way it takes some letting go and just being in the moment with it.
I like it and I like that he was able to explore this. I bet it was good for his soul. He still has that EGO though. It can get annoying when he just can’t seem to face the fact that it was the band all together that made the best records with him as a member. He has trouble just being one of the 4 dudes who made magic. He has moments when he admits it, but it seems hard. I guess that’s the double edged sword that makes him brilliant.
What I love about this is how it much it makes you miss the other three.

This is starting to come together nicely. The Free Four intro stitches perfectly into the narrative. What a nice surprise that was! Liking this more and More. (still find Money a hard swallow) but on the whole this locks it in for me. And lining up the Free Four lyrics shortly after his 80th? I see what ya did there Rog!
Yeah I like this but am not having that Money. It’s still hard to get over the expectation of David’s guitar parts coming in. I wish he didn’t frame it so narcissistically. This song is better suited to this style of reimagining than Money imo
I put the CD on today while I was accompanying my dad to his chemotherapy. We relaxed a lot. Thanks Roger 🤗 After all, music is also medicine 😉
I wish all the best to your dad. My died 13 years ago, same illness, chemo ruined him, it ways painful to watch, but you never know
Okay, so this is growing on me as more is released. Didn't think much of "Money" as a standalone, then we were given "Time" and I sat up and listened. The use of the lyric from "Free Four" is appropriate here in the "Speak To Me" section, and segues excellently into "Breathe". From wondering what and why on earth has this been done, I'm very much moving towards "Wow". 🦇
Dark Side is a masterpiece that hasn’t lost its luster after 50 years. What made it so good? It was the balance of the four of them.
Yes, Roger wrote the lyrics, but it’s a Floyd album, not just his.
Live to 80 if you’re lucky, huh?

Bringing in Free Four here is brilliant.
I can’t help to mention that I have listened to you all my life, the first musician I listened to. Your masterful art is so incredible that I believe it’s divine. That rainbow circle has been my logo for 8 years. I sing with you all the time. I care so deeply about what you say. The Final Cut was always my favorite album because I can feel every long scream and wish I could find the words and sounds…aspire to it. Getting there is Hell…what you have to know…to do what you do and the pain is unspeakable…the words and music finally begin to describe the condition of the world and of man. That’s when you realize few have ears to hear…limited faculties for a simple genuine comment or expression. Nothing to add. Hollow murmurs of pointless nonsense because that is easier. Maybe it is…I would not know because that’s not the life I really want. I’d rather be more like you. Thanks for being my hero. Love you no matter what.
As is the case with current day Star Wars, never underestimate the power of an adequately placed key jangle to get so many seals to clap.
This album is a gem. Feels like a bittersweet symphony about the fact that Pink Floyd is done and separated. It’s like Roger is bidding goodbye to all the fans of Pink floyd and its dark and sad and you can’t do anything but sit down, listen to this and cry.
