@@jw5386 Basically Frankenstein's monster wants a mate and Dr. Frankenstein is like "Sure dude" but then he realizes that the Creature and his mate could create a new race of monsters that would be worshipped and could take over the human race (which was the doctor's original plan but he could easily backfire considering the monster's abilities). So Dr. Frankenstein goes back on his promise, which angers the monster who decides to seek revenge by killing people close to his creator. Along with his killings, the monster develops more and more humanity through his own guilt (because he kills people, duh) and he decides "sike, i'm out" and he drowns himself.
_I think I may have gotten some details wrong but that's the overall reason as to why Frankenstein's monster kills people._

I could have sworn he ate meat at some point after he first got discarded by the doctor. I’ve read the book three times I honestly don’t remember though. I think the food was described as stew but I guess he could have always decided to become a vegetarian later on or ate vegetable stew. I remember the sentence you cite but I thought it meant more so that he refused to personally slaughter lamb not that he wouldn’t eat it. For anyone who hasn’t read it though you should read the book, it’s very good. It’s been about 7 years since I last read it I might read it again soon

The thing is, in Russia a beard was a symbol of privilege status. And, therefore, it was a symbol of Russia, that was mocked by Europeans (at least Peter thought that). But Peter reeealy liked Europe and wanted Russia to be the same as any European country. Following the standards of European fashion, Peter made this law, basically forcing his people to become more European-looking.
Also Tsar Peter was a funny guy. And curios: he tried a lot of professions during his life. One time he tried to be a dentist. He pulled out lots of teeth from his patients. Modern day tooth examination showed, that ALL these teeth were PERFECTLY FINE.

I live in Russia and I have a lot of Roma friends. And they always use word “Gypsy”, and everyone does so. (Without any negativity in this word!) I didn’t even know that it’s considered as a slur, never heard about term “Roma” and that is the right term. Now I feel bad about it.

Where I used to live in the UK, there were a lot of gypsies that had settled in the villages near where I lived. They called themselves gypsies and were proud of it. What a rabbit hole. I took some Jewish studies classes in college and I remembered my teacher mentioning the beard as being an anti-Semitic law. Turns out there was a whole slew of taxes that were imposed on Jewish people or things that were a part of Jewish religious practices, such as eating specific foods (Kosher food). Growing a beard has been a part of the Jewish religion for a long time because it is commanded in the Torah (Jewish bible).
These taxes were broadly all over Europe at different points in History. No one person or place.

On a real note:
Currently laying in bed rewatching/listening and low key crying because I haven’t been able to bring myself to watch these videos since 2020, before Covid ruined everything…
At the same time, being so happy for the memories and for the brief moments I can allow myself to surrender to memories of better days and what ignorant bliss and gratitude I feel watching these two spin beautiful, simple moments of life into a blissful escape and reconnaissance brought to so many people…
I doubt many ppl will see this, but I sort of take solace in that. I find myself (3 glasses of wine deep 😅) reminiscing effortlessly about who I was and what life was like when these two beautiful people were actively sharing their incredible lives with us and I can’t help from becoming emotional when the reality of where we’re at now sets in; seemingly all at once, yet not at all; all in one swift movement.
One thing I know for certain; I have nothing but love and gratitude for not only Jenna & Julien, but every person that stumbles upon this comment from the depths of a bleeding and yearning heart that better days are yet to follow.

hey jenna, though many old glass panes are indeed thicker at the bottom, they were mostly produced that way due to older, less precise glassblowing methods. when installing them, folks placed them thick side down for added stability!
“amorphous” just refers to the arrangement of molecules in the solid. crystals are the opposite of glass in that way-they have very regular lattice patterns that cause their cool crystal shapes when cut. :)
I’m a Postmate driver and I have to admit I DO judge people on what they order. Just silently. Once I picked up an order from 7 eleven and all they wanted was one pack of Oreos, I wouldn’t think this was that weird but it turned out I was delivering to a guy in the complex right across the street from the store literally not even a min away. This was before covid too.
