Ive always thought the chickens were hilarious. Never knew they had so much personality until I started visiting my family there.

Most of the fruit on the mainland is product de Mexico. I'm back in California now but I did live on Kauai for 6 years my favorite thing when I first got there was the farmers market and all the fruit and vegetables that I learned about. I left because after that first big flood in 2017 it was really difficult to find a farm that wasn't shady to do work trade and I also did leis and bracelets ect to support myself but there were some times when the visitors were few. I recommend that if you are visiting Kauai please get your souvenir from someone that is a crafter and not the ABC store, it cost more but it is better quality and came from the island not Taiwan. You also will be helping a person stay independent. Also please respect that what they are selling is their inventory and it took time to gather the materials to make the items that you see so it is insulting to assume they should give you their hard work for $5-$10 or free. Never assume that the bracelets are on elastic, I have had many pieces of jewelry broken and not paid for because someone will pick up the jewelry and play with it and then they break it or some of the shells(kaheleilani).

My husband and I went to Kauai on our honeymoon and we are visiting again soon for our 25th anniversary. It seems like it is still just as beautiful but maybe a little busier! Thanks for this fun and funny video! You made my night. 😊

I lived on Kauai for six years. Some of the best years of my life. As a local told me: “I may not make it to heaven, but at least I made it to Kauai.” You glossed over a lot of problems, though. Island fever is real! It’s an extreme form of claustrophobia. Expensive, OMG! Especially now. It’s called the island of millionaires for a reason. I moved to Kauai in 2010 when it was relatively inexpensive & uncrowded. Most people went to Maui…we joked that we told everyone you won’t like it here go to Maui.I left at the end of 2015 along with most of my friends because of rising costs. I have one good friend left & he said the island has gotten so crowded they’re shuttling people to the North Shore now. The traffic was terrible when I lived there. Now so much worse. You compare everything to places like L.A. But not all of us are from California. Honestly not only did I get island fever, but I got bored. It’s different for everyone. If you’re planning to move there be sure you’re prepared. Lots of money, patience & the possibility that after a while you may not love it as much as you think.

"extreme form of claustrophobia".....kind of hyperbolic, don't you think??? Ha'ena State Park (Ke'e Beach/Kalalau Trail) now costs money for visitors (who go through hell to fight online for tickets.....very hard for a tourist), and the "shuttle" is another "money grab" from the state as they have allotted little parking for visitors to the park/beach. Residents with state ID are free. I agree, much was "glossed over"......there are struggles living on the island, but it also has a dark side.....most of which is systemic.

I've never been happier in my life than in Kauai. I've never had the desire to live anywhere else more in the world. I'd planned on moving their from Oregon in 2022. I was 30, had never dated ANYONE and am not social whatsoever. I was Planning on working for a farm in exchange for board, or be a truck driver, Ranger, beach comber, any kind of hard outdoor labor and pretty much anything that wasn't direct customer service. Somehow, for some reason, in some way I met my (soon to be) wife and she has family anchoring her here in Oregon. I believe it was some kind of divine intervention. I'd met her months before I was leaving for Kauai and told her "sorry I'm leaving in three months". Looking back it was so stupid to try my first time dating on an app when I wasn't planning on sticking around. I'm visiting soon and I'm sure it'll be just as hard to leave as it always is. The universe can't keep me away from Kauai forever!

I've been here almost 35 years. It's not a consumer's paradise though I've always managed to live within my means. You don't drive out of town for the weekend or take road trips. Your friends and family may not come to see you as often as you'd like. I try to avoid the Kapaa traffic and I haven't been to the north. side in about 10 years. I think we may have the best weather in the world. No place is perfect but I like my neighbors and my neighborhood. There's no place else that I'm interested in living. Kauai suits me fine.

Awesome video! Yes, Kaua'i is way better than LA. I live poorly next to that called inland empire area. I am praying to someday soon live in Kaua'i. My last vacation was there at Kaua'i in 2003. I used to live in Orange county back then. We were thinking of moving there. Ugh. I also liked being at Kaua'i for 2 weeks then, and we had awesome talk times with many, and many thought we already lived there. I love hanging out and friendly long talks!!!!! Blessings to you. Nice video! 🙏🙏🙏

Hi Anne, great content. Question: we'd lo e to move to Hawaii, but we're heat intolerant and we live the rain. Where has the coolest summer along with good schools and nice looking neighborhoods?

    • @Kiki-Kauai

@@Eaglejake not at all. People go through a series of feelings depending on how long they’ve lived here. Many may never make it to 2 years here because we are so isolated and frankly rural. And being rural brings its own challenges. So my question was out of curiosity. But you appear to have jumped onto judgement street when there was none in my question. Stay blessed. Peace, my friend.
