Loved this. I watched the reactions to Niki Sky’s video and was appalled at the amount of YouRubers bashing her, and becoming enraged simply because she decided to change her ways. Whether she sticks with it or not, it’s her life and her decision. I was shocked when Connor called her “insecure” when in my professional opinion people who are so easily triggered are usually the insecure ones. I agreed with your take on this topic
💕🫶🏼
Wow, so true! The reactions were so poor
People are bashing her because they don't believe she's genuine. People are bashing her because she's preaching about getting rid of her high priced luxury logo items from a luxurious mansion while wearing Cartier jewellery. If people don't trust her or believe her, it does not mean they're triggered. If she bought all of those designer logoed items to prove her worth, then she is insecure.
@@marlenepopov8469Exactly. And she made a lot of inaccurate assumptions about why we buy these things, which makes me think she bought them for the wrong reason.
@@totesgene Good point!
I can't imagine being angry because someone else wants to spend less money smh.
People change. Priorities change. Interests change. Finances change. Who are we to judge? Maybe they are doing it for clicks, maybe they aren't--but why does anyone care? If you don't like it, don't watch. I love your points, all spot on! 🤚
Thank you, that’s the point of the video!! 💕
Totally agree with this. I have a full life I don’t give a s…
It’s hard to pick a favorite, but the black Chanel handle bag in *hotdups* has me swooning!!! I also love the raffia Paris bag for the beach.
I can’t imagine paying today’s luxury prices. Never purchased a handbag with the intentions of selling it. If that was the case then you can’t afford to buy it. Agree material things should not define you. Save and invest your money. I retired at 56. Still able to travel and pay bills. Get a good financial planner , invest your money and sit back and watch it grow. Nothing wrong with carrying a contemporary bag and you are financially secure. If you can’t put $10k cash in a 10k handbag then you can’t afford it. Another great video. Thank you for sharing truth! 🙏🏾❤️
That is goals!! 💯 ❤️
Yes! I love this!!!! ❤️ 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 👏🏾 💯
The problem is it is not even worth the 10$k, it is just real leather with chanel logo on, people are and were paying only for the brand’s name. They are NOT and never was worth the price tag, especially now. My family was super rick for years, generational self made rich and we never bought bags from those brands, we used to spend on shoes, maybe gown dresses rarely, but never on clothes, we spend them on gold or real estate, this is how it should be. If you think about it you can even spend it on traveling and life experience, but why clothes and bags? Just because we are women men think of the easiest way to “trap” us spend money on nonsense by overpricing them. If those bags were used by men it would not reach this level of craziness
Totally Agree, well said
I agree 100 %.
Spot on. We have way too much stuff.
Hi Michelle, what you’re saying is very true. I’ve never followed the crowd or trends.
Thank you Tiff ❤️
Loved this video, think they are all in debt and are selling to 💰 pay, they are older and seeing it, buyers remorse after years
Please pass the collection plate throughout the sanctuary....because this was a WORD!!! It really is a reckoning moment and season we are in right now. All of the consumption has made people go into unnecessary debt, and I am not speaking the influencers, but those of us who follow them and feel you need to keep up with the Joneses...when your name is Brown. We have designer bags but no emergency contingency fund for a last minute disaster, we have designer clothing but no retirement plan, we have the entire Sephora store in our bathrooms but are a paycheck away from financial ruin...and for what? And for who? I commend the influencers that are being in honest about the space they are in mentally, emotionally about consumerism and their complicitness in it. Speaking for myself, I have purchased items I had no business purchasing and I am making a commitment to myself, to be conscious of my spending , do I really need this and why I am buying it. This was a fantastic commentary! THANK YOU!!!
“Please pass the collection plate” 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼(so I can pay some debt too!)😂😂😂
Thank you! I am guilty of having a Sephora in my bathroom and all the other stuff. What good is it to be dressed well should a financial emergency occur?!? Worst of all, we have no identity when we are identified by material things! Thanks for your comment 🥰😊
👏👏👏say it louder girl! We can't afford groceries! Let alone luxury for clout
The biggest irony is that these bags are all over the place. Unless you're living a luxurious life one or a dozen bags does not denote luxury. If you're in rented accommodation with a regular salary it's not luxury it's delusion. China is selling more Chanel bags than Chanel!
Delusion is the word! 🔨
When I buy, it’s because it’s something I like and not because someone else has it. I only spend a small percentage of my gross income on “things”. I have more in savings, and definitely more in investments, than I do in luxury items. If you can afford it, go for it, but do it for the right reasons.
Yes, yes & yes!
I’ve always said when the “newness” of that bag wears off, you are still left feeling empty that a bag can’t fulfill.
Excellent content and message in this video!! ❤
I came here for reassurance. In my case, I was in a pit of depression when I started my "designer" handbag collection. Thankfully I never went into debt... 1000% now I felt like I have too much stuff. The "super fake" market is a whole other story... and thanks for sharing. :)
💯 before the pandemic, I was going to buy a lady Dior bag, by the time stores opened up again, they went and doubled the price. I couldn’t bring myself to purchase it. I felt ripped off! Perhaps you can find me a beautiful one in the pre-loved store on one of your live events? 😊
Anyhow, I do love your chats! You’re so down to earth and realistic, it’s refreshing watching your channel! 💕
I can’t make sense of these prices!
I was able to find a vintage Lady Dior to purchase after 6 months of searching, me too wasn’t gonna pay retail after all the hikes.
I found a gorgeous Lady Dior pre-loved in excellent condition, saved so much money!!
Thank you for this video!
Eye opener!
💕
Well said. ❤
Great video! Makes one reflect that we have too much stuff ❤
Excellent points Thsnk you
My dear , great statement, A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE LOSING THEIR JOBS 😊
Came across your video, love how you are down to earth and wise❤️ All the best to you❤️
Thank you ❤. So sad the hate these CZcamsrs have been getting for selling their handbags. You are one of the good ones. Thank for your video
Loved your video!!🤗
Thank you! ❤️
They are tired of spending the money. That’s it and that’s all
Well said!
Finally some wisdom spoken!
Great video!❤
So so so so love how you speak exactly what you feel, you simply couldn’t care what other thought and I LOVE that
💕🫶🏼
This is the best reaction video I have seen on this topic! Awesome job, well done! You gained a new subscriber 🙂 can't wait to watch more of your videos.
Thank you…so much 🙏🏼💕
You are so down to earth.
I just love hearing you speak! You are so sensible! I have slowed down with the handbag shopping…in fact, I have 16luxury handbags and I feel like it’s too much stuff. While I can very comfortably afford these bags, I find myself wanting to let go of some. I’m pretty sure I will at some point. Just not today. Nobody should judge anyone especially for buying less stuff. It’s absurd!
Minding your business helps you live longer and look younger
💯
Agree with all the points you made and well sone for being objective and brave to raise them! Do what we want and need but just be conscious of why. That's it!
Wow! Preach ❤❤❤..
❤️
I love a this video and the points you made 💐👏🏾 though I wasn’t really in the market for luxury goods I always wanted to buy pre loved before new mainly for the points you made. I would rather buy a bag from someone who genuinely “needs the money” on a quality vintage piece than a penny pinching “luxury” conglomerate where the quality is going down.
Hey Michelle! I love this video. I can't relate (not that I have enough bags to sell anything).
Hey girlfriend! Thanks for stopping by! 💕
Hi Michelle! TY for being tactful and truthful! I agree with everything u just said. At the end of the day, we’re all gonna die and can’t take these “things” with us. I care now about financial security and generational wealth. And yes cali is NOT cheap, I live in SF and rent here is up to $5K/monthly 😂 I can only afford to buy LV once a year not like once a month lol. I wish. Not going into luxury debt anymore. Now paying it all off. Lesson learned. ❤ I’ve gravitated back towards Coach again, (Telfar, and target to name a few) and I feel better versus feeling broke. And personally I feel like I’m a shopping addict because I have low self esteem. Calling myself out here. Working on saving now-and less spending. Thanks for posting!
You are awesome ❤️ I do remember when you wrote me when you were starting to purchase Louis Vuitton! I do feel there’s a time and place for luxury, but not right now, and definitely not a necessity! Thanks for your comment! ❤️
Loved this video!! I too was a former luxury addict but during the pandemic I went the opposite and decided I didn’t need those things anymore. Considering we couldn’t travel or go in office my lifestyle changed drastically. I never recovered the lifestyle that aligned with luxury so I sold most of my stuff and only kept hard to find classics! Also the quality for the price point for ALL these luxury brands sucks so its literally not worth the money anymore !!! XoXo Nikki💋
Thank you 💕💕
This is so refreshing to watch and in line with my personal views. I still love luxury but it’s never worth putting it above - education, investments, etc and it’s NEVER a good reason to be mean to other people, especially strangers. Enjoy if you can - and if you can’t that’s totally ok too - it’s just STUFF.
Like you - I worked retail and luxury retail (prior to becoming a nurse) and I do believe that my jobs have had a monumental impact on my perspective.
But honestly, thank you for such a good video.
Thank you so much 💕
Great video. 🤚 I have too much stuff 😂 We all evolve overtime and are allowed to change our minds on our lifestyle.
I just watched the documentary on Brandi Melville this morning and wow was that eye opening. It’s obviously not luxury focused, but consumerism/consumption specific. Everyone should “do you”, but it was eye opening for me.
Yes! Therapy > a new handbag!
Much better way to spend money. I've not bought a new bag since 2022 and I'm very at peace with my collection and love and use all my bags in a nice rotation
Too much stuff! And I’ve only had a few luxury bags but the thrill does pass. And the bill is a lot larger, so the stress of paying so much remains even if it wasn’t on credit. It’s just so much for a thing that carries things.
I feel uncomfortable wearing them. Makes me feel like I’m a target sometimes and I feel douchey rolling into my kids public school with a $6k purse even though I didn’t go into debt and thought about it for years. I’ll probably sell my bags.
All true!
Yeah the whole idea of the bags being an “investment” just didn’t sit well with me. Yes you can definitely sell your items down the road and some people actually make a profit but to be honest most of us that have sold items know that you usually take a cut just to get rid of said items.
😊good messaging❤
Thank you 💕
I like to buy stuff...I have too much stuff. Bad habits.
I’m guilty - I like shopping/buying things, not necessarily luxury items though. Who knows if they’re really getting rid of their bags or looking for more attention, I have too many problems of my own to worry about. 😅
💯 I agree and guilty too!
I have too much stuff 😭
Oop!😅
Love this video. I hope peoplewill understand the true meaning of luxury. For example, a minimum wage salary women like me, to be able get a day off when I'm tired and able to eat to my favorite restaurants is luxury. Who cares about luxury bags they said. T
Very true. A day-off, sleeping in, and eating In-n-Out with my daughter is more precious than any handbag! ❤️
Guilty of the stuff thing
Oh girl! We’ve seen your bag room!! But love it too…💕
💖
Guilty here, I bought Clothes last year to realize recently some pieces still have Price tags on It loll. (Incl Designer pieces),
My dear, I have only 4 bags : Cartier cabochon ( mi ex husband gave me 23 years ago) brand new , speedy 25 b Damier ebene brand new LOVE IT, POCHETTE METIS I don’t love it brand new , and PRELOVED CHANEL CLASSIC CAVIAR DOUBLE FLAP MEDIUM BLACK, I will use all of them until they are garbage
The amount of money I spent online in 2020 and 2021 makes me cringe. Much of it ended up on resale sites in 2023. The silver lining is I’ve become more aware and intentional about spending now.
Thanks for sharing. Yay to awareness! 💕
I think this CZcams bubble also contributed to this whole thing. It started where we came on here to watch a few people who actually owned Hermes bags before CZcams who are showing us their collections. Then CZcams became monetized where people made more money on CZcams than their regular jobs, this meant that young people suddenly began having disposable income to spend on luxury.
But the CZcams platform is now saturated and unboxing is not a thing anymore. Now the competition is stiff and people don't make money on CZcams like they used to so it makes no sense anymore to keep buying $10k bags. If it wasn't for CZcams, most of the influencers would not be able to actually afford luxury bags.
Influencers have also realized that they can sell their bags and still make money on this platform.
But the bottom line is that we all want to look like we are wealthier than we really are and this has contributed to the social media FLEX CULTURE!
"THE FLEX IS BULLSHIT".....Bam!
It’s just creating content 😌
I mostly watch luxury CZcams for product reviews.
Trends change, CZcams algorithms change. They are doing this to probably keep the interest of viewers I am sure. It’s all about the YT money.
The only time I was happy was purchase movement. Afterwards it is not so much. Enjoyed shopping, until those designer shops treats the client judge-mentally, and their quality have going down and price keeps going up. It just doesn’t make sense. 😂 whoever saying it is investment of buying a bag, they should take an investment course somewhere. Women should inspire other women to use our money wisely. 😊
Makes perfect sense. I like bags but I have too many bags so I just use what I have and don't buy anything unnecessary.
Although I did get a tory burch bag on sale in March but it was less than 500 for my birthday gift
Happy birthday!! I have too many bags and I’m trying to stop the bad habits of shopping! But you know you gotta treat yourself for your birthday! ❤️
@dialmstyle thank you lovely, I love handbags but my collection is complete so now I'll just redo my bedroom furniture.
As someone who has recently grown to love luxury things, I do feel frustrated with the hypocrisy. I’ve never seen an influencer belittle folks who don’t buy outrageously expensive things; however, people like you are being judge mental about how others spend their money. This video is pretty sad
Too much of anything is not a good thing. 🤮. IMO
they are fine but they are like mean girls saying we just poor if buy bags we just need mind own lives thank you is
But I don't understand because you promote buying handbags when you show how to buy vintage or preloved, or whatever. But I agree with most of what you say. I strongly considered buying a speedy 20 but changed my mind and bought an MCM leather hobo bag, which was half the price and beautiful. I don't buy to impress anybody. I'm not a traveler, but I do love handbags but after listening to you, maybe I'll return my bag.
Nah keep that MCM and enjoy it a long time, just give value to things and use them properly, repair them till their done.
@@Jackson-jk9ff thanks
I say do what’s good for you and not compare yourself to influencers. I sell vintage bags because people still love bags and I don’t see a reason for going to the boutique to pay full price. Keep your bag as long as it’s not making you broke! I, by the way still have a shopping problem! ❤️
You do you boo. She's simply pointing out some of the issues with the industry and the people buying. Doesn't mean you need to return the bag, just be more mindful of what you buy, why you are buying it and is it because you love it or because you want to be accepted by others/shove it in other people's faces.
@flohough1870 ok, but no I don't like shoving it in people's faces. I just love handbags, and I do love the older coach bags. Tx
Luxyry can be a money pit, no matter your budget, there’s always something else to get. If you are not smart with money, you can easily get yourself in trouble. That being said, I will never understand why some get mad because one wants to buy less, but the opposite is true too. Why would I get mad at someone that has more than me? I don’t feel the need to analyze that person trying to find out if she or he can afford it. It’s none of my business, I cannot care less. I’m buying luxury if I can and that’s the end of it for me!
There's a lot of videos on "Luxury Is For Broke People". I am not into luxury, however, the one item I need to elevate my high-street wear are a pair of designer sneakers. If I wear my Nike gym sneakers out at night and out to dinner and movies, it looks awful. I just don't like wearing gym sneakers out at night. So I bought a pair of Prada sneakers and its perfect. It elevates the look. Is it okay to buy two designer sneakers to rotate them? I am not broke nor am I in debt as a result of paying for these $1000 per pair of sneakers. Its crazy what Prada charges. I use the interest in my savings acct. to pay for these two sneakers. Thank you for your honest reply. Please do not sugar coat your response.
I have to disagree with one thing you said. I am not out to impressed others nor do I care what people think of what I am wearing.. I buy these designer sneakers to complete the look and it makes me feel good about my appearance. Honest truth.
For me, it was her sneering tone that the rest of us are just shallow and can never reach the enlightened spiritual plane she levitated to by the sheer force of her superiority. In England it's called being funny or being shirty and it's a VERY distinctive tone. If she admitted she needed the money, I would have respected that way more.
Most people buy fake bags because they like the authentic design but like the price of the fake H Q D U P S
I get that you are trying give people perspective but yikes, this was harsh. I bought my first LV 2 years ago when I got a bonus. It's beautiful and I still love it. I wear it a few times a week and always get compliments. It's okay to splurge occasionally if you can afford it. I bought a 2nd and don't wear it much. It's not very practical. After that I stopped. I really want to enjoy my purchases. I'm not rich but after raising 2 kids by myself, I wanted to splurge. Don't hate!
How is she hating???? She is talking about ppl who have too much and cannot afford it!! Relax!
Buying a purse doesn't mean you need therapy. It's funny that now it's trendy not to buy luxury and CZcamsrs are now judging people.@@tolikfox007
I think they’re selling because they’re broke. Some appear to have gone homeless and are shooting videos in their car/home. It’s so sad.
Buying a bag is not just buying a bag when they cost thousands. Be real. It’s to flex. I doubt the majority of people buy because of “craftsmanship” or “quality” or love of heritage.
Interesting take on the reactions to influencers selling their stuff. But why put that out there if youre not trying to influence someone or everybody. And with that being said my reaction was that they are now selling because buying and influcing people to buy by posting is no longer as lucrative as it was when people were stuck in the house. Everybody has a right to change for what ever their reasons are, and everybody has their right to their take on why. Self Righteous Indignation is not influential.
Perhaps out of respect to the viewers who have stood by you and would be confused why your content suddenly changed? Sharing ones experiences isn't necessarily always about clicks or trying to influence someone, but to give others the confidence to make changes they've been considering in the first place. Sometimes transparency can be educational and helpful.
I dont think it is a very constructive idea to relate wanting beautiful nice things with how people living in slums are living. First it gives a moral acceptance of that living in slums could give more contentment than living in a nice environment. Women in slums are killing their infants by strangling when the poverty and suffering gets to them. Poverty, struggling and suffering is nothing to applaud and have as a moral baseline for how meaningless aspire to a good life with luxury might be. Luxury which often include beautiful crafted pieces made by skilled workers, luxury having time and health and freedom is something i think makes human a better version of them selvs. Not allowing ourselves appreciate beauty, art is deprivation of the soul and could lead to crippling depression which again could lead to poverty, suffering, struggle and death. Dont misunderstand be, many women have died for luxury handbags doing sugarbabe/ sex work/ prostitution. It is a about finding a balance, but dire poverty is nothing to applaud or romanticise as it hurts women and children the most.
