I love how there’s a surprise twist where the narrator quickly reveals that’s he’s a dog at the very end. Because that is somehow relevant to wrapping up the story lol

This actually ended less violently than I expected, which is always rare with folktales. I thought for sure that the Rosebush would hide Green Peter from the Princess by gouging out her eyes and that the Wicked Royal family would be defeated, replaced by Green Peter and his Dear Sister.

Honestly, the other version of the story was better, if you ask me. "Peter" turned into a rose that the princess put on her persons. Thus the reasons she couldn't find him was because he was literally right under her nose.

That's called "The Little Swineherd" (A kiskondás) which might be a better-known version of the basically same story.

For all of you asking about the sister, she is living in the castle during all this time. She is the one with the red waistband waving at Peter every day when he comes and leaves for his hiding test. Check her out from the beginning. The princess is dressed different.

She was allowed to live in the palace it seems, if you look closely when Peter sets out the third time, she's waving at him from the gate.
I think she will show up in a later story that seams to be the theam

folk tales from my own country, folk tales to me are just a way to pass down some culture and moral of the society. The stories are mostly geared towards kids so it doesnt have to make adult sense. It is much better to be curious about the symbolism and virtues of old hungarian culture than discussing why the bird has hand.

By the fact that he went into the bush a boy and came out a man gives me the impression that the rosebush was a Fairy and she hid him in the realm of the fae where time moves differently. As to where his sister went, I think he sent her off somewhere else where she might be safe. He was threatened death upon entering the kingdom. I do feel like the whole story wasn't well thought out, though. Likely a story thought up on the spur of the moment by a parent to teach their child a lesson in kindness and the kid liked it so much the tale spread and became a folktale.

@Leon Jan Actually you right. When the lad hided to far from the princess to the bottom of sea or to the top of the sky, she were easily find him. But when he hiden in the palace, in to the princess's "flower", he bypassed the chalenge.

Interesting. We also have a very similar story in China, from the northwest part, where the people had cultural connections to middle asia or even west europe in old times. But the ending is that boy hides underneath the castle with the help of a red fox that he saved and helped dig into the earth. And he has no sister and didn't run off home due to an evil step mother, the fish was saved out of his uncle's fishing net, and the bird was saved out of the mouth of a python.

From the Hungarian tales I've learned to always help nature.
If Peter didn't have a sister, the tale would be just the same, because she did nothing and everyone acted as if she wasn't there. But I liked the rose bush and the spirit of the mother, both so surrealistic.
I like how the bird has lips below its beak as if the beak were its nose.
this story reminds me of another story of the same thing they did on this channel the boy hides then becomes a flower and the princess in the other instead of rubbing her eyes she twirled and it's doing the same kind of story

This reminds me of an old Russian tale I heard, except he gets found all three times by the end by the princesses magic telescope.
I saw this long time ago , yet so many wrong if story revolves around Greene Peter so why there sister if doesn’t needed to be in this story, this dumb game of hide and seek ,it’s just a way to see how the good deeds are returning to this well mannered boys or men, what kind powers does this princess has awesome power to far beyond and give all up just to get married
That's the point of the challenges. Princesses with these extraordinary gifts use them to prevent suitors from marrying them. In some Native American tribes, if a man wanted to wed a woman, he'd have to beat her in a race. If she likes him, she lets him win.
But yeah, the sister was such a pointless character in this version of the story. The version where he turned into a flower that she placed upon her bossome made far more sense than this.
