- We found the WORLDS QUICKEST Street Driven VE Commodore / G8 in Sydney Australia! This CRAZY sounding UTE (Utility Vehicle) showed up at the Turbosmart 1320Video meet & greet during our recent trip down under! These Holden VE Chassis UTE’s are incredibly popular cars down under, but this one stands out over the rest, running an 8.70 at over 150mph! Powered by a Turbo V8, this machine has much more potential ahead of it as it continues to get dialed in! We were happily surprised to see it show up at Sydney Dragway for Motive DVD’s Encore Night, this Street Machine proved to be a ton of fun!

Lol you do know the lfx is faster then some ls1. You do realise they are basically the same car right? Conversions are cheap and easy in these things. Dude why spend 80g on a stock ssv ls3? or 150g on a hsv gts? when you can buy a thunder sv6 or ss for 20-30g. change the front suspension, bigger breaks, new ecu, source a crate ls3 for 8-9g and voila. Another 20-25g and you have the same car for half the price. You dont have to rewire them or nothing. Car salesman dont want you to know that, but anyways have fun wasting your money, and never the less up the mighty barra.
I like the ausies. Down to earth, but in the meanwhile crazy as hell. Especially with everything with an engine!!

TheOne AndOnly you probably have more utes in the states than we do in Oz. Only difference is you call them pickups. Since the late 70s we have only had two the two main car companies (Holden and Ford) produce utes in low volumes, and as of today I'm not sure if either of them are still producing a ute. Holden no longer make cars here and our next "Holden" car will be German, we get most of our utes / pickups from Japan in the form of Mazda BT50s / Toyota Hilux and such like.

my dad has a 1972 holden torana gt-r xu1, v8 swapped and the cops love it!
meanwhile he also has a 1980 model ford thunderbird ( i’m not too sure with the year ) it has a 5.0 v8,
bullet mufflers, and almost fully straight pipes and that car has caused more trouble than an ex-wife

The car would sell. Can't buy something that isn't available. People don't spend crazy amounts of money importing these and going through the Ute dealer to get these cars for nothing. The US dealer can't even keep enough cars in stock.
Auto Young I too think they should have sold bother the Holden and Ford Ute's internationally, but they deemd is not likely to profit. The same thing goes for big us trucks over here, the Try every 15 years or so to sell them in Australia but all they do is take sales from the locally built models that the manufacturer makes more profit on due to import taxes.
The only way it would have worked is if it was produced in America, the tariffs for trucks built outside of the States is what kills ideas like that. It's a shame too, these things are QUICK bone stock. Would make the Raptor look like a POS in any kind of race, whether there's corners or not

actually GM, an American company, owns Holden, Holden can't stop GM from using their designs on Pontiacs, Chevrolets and any other brand under GM that had commodores sold under those badges. Holden are under GM, so GM does what they please with Holden's designs

People generally get called wankers here when they put a Chev badge on a Holden, but since Holden have been factory fitting LS motors for quite a number of years now, it has become a more acceptable practice.

About 15 years ago I had a mates mates build a Cobra AC replica with a 355 stroker LS1, Vortech S/C, and nitrous. The guy that built the engine told him if it doesn't run 7s take it back to him and he will make it run 7s. I had a ride in it when he had only just dropped the motor in and was just running it in (kept revs under 5500rpm), and no nitrous yet, and it felt like the Tower of Terror ride at Dreamworld, that used to go something like 0-160 klm in 3 seconds. Sounded just like this car too : )
