Clarkland Farm Offers Half to Beholder, Into Mischief, Mendelssohn

- Leslies Lady is one of the most influential broodmares in recent memory, producing no fewer than three stallions--Into Mischief, Mendelssohn and Curlin to Mischief. Clarkland Farms is preparing to sell hip 498 from the dam, a filly by American Pharoah, at the upcoming Keeneland September Sale. Lucas Marquardt checked in with Fred Mitchell and the Clarkland team to discuss their superstar dam.

The fact that these horses stand so quietly and are so at ease is a testament to just how well these horses are cared for and raised.
Man...! Sounds like he possesses such a genuine love for his horses.... Loved how he spoke about preserving the legacy for the grandkids. Talk about a 'blue hen'... Think she is as lucky to have you all as you are to have such a brilliant broodmare... Best of luck to you all...
Super big congratulations to Fred Mitchell and Clarkland Farm for selling Leslie's Lady's yearling for a record breaking 8.2 million dollars at Keeneland September 2019 sale. Mandy Pope was the buyer and everyone involved is overjoyed.
It's nice to hear the human stories behind the horses.
And now the filly broke down during training and was euthanised. Last year. She never raced. And Leslie’s Lady recently died of old age.
What a magnificent, well mannered and well cared for mare and congrats to her fabulous offspring! Lesley's Lady looks like a 3 year old filly.

How much did the ‘19 filly sold for and what’s her name
I believe she sold for 8.1 million; her name is American Joy. She suffered a catastrophic injury training in 2021 at the age of two. She never raced. She is dead.
Yeah it's all about the money is what he means. So many racing mares are bred way past their time when they should be retired completely. Racing industry is well lknown for its greed.
