  • Unboxing: HoBao Hyper SST 1:8 scale Truggy
    Here's my first look at the HoBao SST 1/8 scale truggy. This truggy looks like it has all the right ingredients to take on the very popular Kraton 6S and I certainly hope it can give it a run for its money. It's a great looking RC and being capable of running on 6S puts it up against some of the best on the market. So lets put it to the test...
    Thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed the video. :)

    I think that what makes these better than the arrmas is that they come with good electronics, not the crappy servos and radios. These come with sävöx servos and the newer ones come with a code rc system which is pretty good. Of course arrmas have better parts support, but these don’t need many modifications to make them as durable as a fully upgraded arrma. People say that hobao’s diffs leak, mine did but after i rebuilt it it was fine. 👌

    My converted Hyper ST truggy is 6 years old now, still performs like a champ. If it finally does give out, this could be a worthy successor.

      These are decent but not as durable as the st you have 👍🏻

      That's a shame, mine is as durable as a tank. I guess they had to make it lighter and sacrifice durability for it then?

      fgbaja29cc After seeing what my friend Chris has put his through, I would have to disagree with you. I don't think HoBao has sacrificed durability with this truggy at all. I just hope I'm not unlucky with mine and it proves me wrong, but I'm pretty confident it won't let me down given what I've seen from it.

      They are good truggys but not as strong as the old st's in my experience.Ive owned both the ss-e buggy and truggy and they where pretty good but I bent both chassis ,twisted the cvd's and broke arms .Maybe these issues have been sorted now as both mine had orange chassis's .
      My old st converted to electric was a tank and still going strong as a fellow forum member bought it from myself.
      Either way it's a worthy purchase but for me it's not worth selling an st to buy the ss 👍🏻

    It's nice to see the hyper SST I purchased a roller about a year ago yours has updated arms different color aluminum I had to put a set of serpent cobra arms an Kraton dog bones on mine to stiffen it up the arms look like the ones that come with it now i'm very happy with mine it's really cool to see it in your studio and maybe learn a few things about it I didn't know thanks for the video an have a great day😊👍🏻

    I miss the days of buying rolling chassis and un-assembled kits. I don't want a ready to run truck. I like the joy of building it as you get a sense of uniqueness and you develop a bond with it hahaha. Any time I get a RTR model I take all electrics out, sell them on ebay and fit my own choice.

      @natemorte Před 8 lety

      Yea , with the 80% package your gonna have to go threw it anyway diffs only come with grease ,and shocks were only half full. (For a off-road car I'd buy some stainless hardware while your going to the trouble.)

    starting to think ur getting a few (3) vehicles from a certain company to review? either way good on u Vas, u def deserve it.. between u and jaytree have the only rc channels i keep up with nowadays, u guys cover every rc that matters or that I'm interested in.. if u aren't covering it then i can count on jay to have a vid or 2.. although u guys have very different driving styles altogether and sort of a different approach to the hobby as well (which is good for me) u guys do share a lot of the same honest values in which i appreciate for sure! hope to c more rc's coming ur way bc it's gotta be easier on ur wallet (assuming you're getting em for free) not to mention an extra motivation to keep up the good work! as always, job well done

    Question!!!!! Since you have so many RC'S and spare parts! Do you think this Truggy or any Truggy you own may have interchangeable front cvd's that may fit the Sabertooth? Sabertooth does not keep those in Stock nor does Acme Dominator(value hobby) here in the states. Thanks! and good content here! My ESPN for Rc's

    • @bigdaddyd82vapes92
      @bigdaddyd82vapes92 Před 6 lety +1

      Cashious R/C Powerhouse Hey, I know it's been a year but..... If u need cvd's for ur saber tooth or most any other rc. You will need to do a bit of measuring and a ton of research. There are 3 key things to consider. 1: wheel axle carrier bearing sizes. On the steering knuckle there are 2 bearings. Inner bearing and outer bearing. These are not standardised and you will need to match the stub axle end of the cvd to the bearing sizes in the steering knuckle and the rear hub carrier.
      2: you will need to be sure the dog bone end of the cvd you choose will fit in the outsidrive cups located on either side of your diff.
      3: length overall length and the length of the stub axle end of the cvd.
      What I have seen done is.. people buy the front arms, steering knuckle and cod set of whatever brand they think will work and just swap them out for the stock parts on their rig. Hope this helps.

  • @reidledgerwood736
    @reidledgerwood736 Před 8 lety

    I bought this truck as a roller a while back (ofna version). It's a really great truck, probably the best value 1/8 truggy. Only problems I've had so far are the rear dogbones bending and the excessive amount of loctite (made the motor mount impossible to remove). It looks like the hobao version has beefier a-arms (the ones on the ofna are quite flimsy).

  • @InTheDogHouse3DPrinting

    I have noticed a lot of rigs have the pinion gear exposed in the chassis. Why is that? Is it a clearance problem? I know on the Nitro versions, it's for a bump start box, but the electric version doesn't need it.
    On the electric versions, they should raise the pinion, center diff, and motor slightly so there wouldn't be a slot in the chassis.
    Great rig, and great video.

    Love the paint-job on that body......i'm getting serious movement. Couple of question if l may please? Would that body fit on the Arrma Talion? Have been wanting to try to paint a clear Talion body exactly like that SST but if it's a nice fit, l'll just buy the SST body. I noticed the new shelving in the background.....l am at this moment putting 3 of the same together and it's requiring more than a "gentle tap" as stated in the instructions to get them in place. Did you have any issues assembling yours, or was decent hit with a large blunt instrument required?

      Get this truggy! Forget the Redcat. I know it's a Tem Magic rc but. It's all plastic chassis and honestly. The Hobao Hyper SSTE is also wayy easier to work on and maintain. Also parts from other truggues will easily fit it. Team Associated springs for example will work perfectly.

      Hi Jake, the stock wheels on this car actually ended up breaking after the first couple of runs, so I'm currently just using standard truggy white dish wheels with pre-mounted tyres. The ones I have are from Louise (aka Duratrax) and they're called the Pirates. Work really well, but are a bit soft, so not ideal for hard surfaces.
      Alternatively, you can use the Proline Badlands on Desperado wheels, they will work for general bashing purposes.
      Hope that helps.

      Healthy Risk Fitness I've always wondered why that is such a big deal. I mean, would you pass up on a great RC just because you can only get parts online or only from a local hobby shop? If I were to do that, I would not have half the RCs I have right now. Although I have a couple of RCs that are not commonly found, I can still get parts online quite easily. But having said that, a few of these lesser known cars actually outlast the more popular ones in durability, so I haven't had the need for parts anyway. Getting parts for HoBao is definitely not an issue, especially since Tower Hobbies are now going to stock them and there's also a few hobby shops near me that stock them.

    • @AussieRCPlayground
      @AussieRCPlayground  Před 8 lety +2

      Healthy Risk Fitness This isn't Ofna through. Ofna no longer exists, as far as I'm aware. This is HoBao, the parent company and the one that I hope will not only stay, but take the brand to the next level.
      Long life spans on RCs is great, but that also means nothing evolves or improves. Look at Traxxas, as an example. They have platforms that are decades old with still the same problems they had when they first released them.
      Now, I'm not saying that RCs should have short life spans, but like everything (TVs, phones, fashion), I've accepted that if RCs can last 3-5 years, that's actually pretty good and anything beyond that makes them great. But improvements must be made along the way, not just new paint jobs.

    Do Australians need to pay customs and tax for RC items shipped through ebay, hobbyking etc..?

    • @AussieRCPlayground
      @AussieRCPlayground  Před 8 lety

      jehan0 At the moment, as long as it's under $1000 it comes in tax free. However, they are looking at lowering that to something like $20, but I heard about it months ago and haven't heard anything since, so I'm not sure if it'll happen or when. If it does, then that will put a massive dent on my channel and any other that imports goods. That said, there may be a way around it which I'm yet to look into. We'll see what happens...

    The lower the kv the faster the car?

    • @war_josh1550
      @war_josh1550 Před 6 lety

      No it's the opposite. The higher kv, the faster the car. The lower kv you go, you will have more torque and less top end, and the higher kv you go you will have more top end but less torque. Lower kv motors are more used in monster trucks or anything with fairly big wheels. Higher kv motors will likely be found in buggies and and on road cars

      I have seen one , I own one, same aluminum chassis,with exception to graphics on basher chassis.. same hobbywing WB8BL150 ESC 2000kv (1950) motor same poopy tires and wheels..some Minor differences like plastic & protected suspension on HoBao and battery compartment on basher otherwise i see the same truggy.good vid though did like it

      @AussieRCPlayground  Před 5 lety +1

      Here's my review of the Basher Sabertooth czcams.com/video/wZol432MaBU/video.html. The chassis and layout look nothing alike. The ESC in the Sabertooth is 100amps (unless they've changed it) and the motor is a 3674, while on the Hyper it's a 4074 and 150amp ESC. Sorry, but I strongly disagree.

      But it dose performed for a month or two but the first time you get a slight bend its going to bend after every run even if you replace the plastic brace if there was a stronger chassis it would be a great kit
