  • So I bought an acoustic violin of my own last week, and in this video I'm telling you about the process of trying and buying a violin.
    And I also bought a secondhand Yamaha SV-200 electric violin because I joined a band recently so it'll be superhandy for that, plus it just looks SUPER AWESOME! This electric violin has been on my wishlist for years and finally owning one feels like a dream come true!
    Next Friday, I'll be performing with the band in a pub, in which I'll be playing my electric violin. ^_^

    congratulations on joining a band. I can hear the great progress you have made. Welcome to the world of electric violins, there are some great amp simulators out there, I use a Line6 POD 2.0 which I originally bought for my guitar but now use for my electric violin (NS Design Wave), then plug into my DAW for layering up my compositions.

    I started learning violin 2 years ago and stopped because of work and just life in general getting in the way, I used to watch your videos to see your progress and may I say after taking out my violin and I regret ever allowing life to get the best of my violin practicing, watching how far you've come not only makes me regret stopping but motivates me so much to get it going again. You sound amazing and you are wonderful proof that adult beginners can definitely become successful violinists. Please can you make a motivational video about your progress and just all about your journey. Congratulations and well done. 🙌 respect

      That is so sweet to say, thank you so much! ❤️ I really hope you can get started again. Eventually it's a matter of priority, although there are ofcourse always times when you play less than other times because of work or other things that need to be done. But I hope you'll stick with it now, music brings so much joy!

    My good violin since 2008 was a Shar, Carlo Lamberti Master Series that at the time was going for $1,750. It's a really nice one. Just recently I bought a 1906 Saxony violin off of Ebay for $850 that blows the Lamberti out of the water. I also bought a French violin made in 1850 that needed work on Ebay for $495 and the violin MAKER I sent it too will charge $350. Hopefully that one (from a maker that is registered on Tarisio) will also outclass the Shar violin. There are gems on Ebay.

    Very nice. Finally you're not renting a violin. I have the same chin rest too, very comfortable. I hope you feel comfortable with the chin rest on the electric as its more on the side. You are doing very well. Keep using that 4th finger too. You could replace an open string notes with the 4th finger in the irst position so the finger gets some practice. Keep them coming.

    • @MarijkeViolin
      @MarijkeViolin  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes, I'm very happy with it! I put the same chinrest on my electric as well and it feels super comfortable now. The standard one was nice too, but I missed that ridge to hook behind my jaw so my neck felt a bit tense after playing. And no worries, my pinky is getting enough attention these days. ☺️

    Please explain what do you mean with the pegs with fine tuners?

    • @MarijkeViolin
      @MarijkeViolin  Před 4 lety +4

      They are geared pegs, they spin slowly like finetuners. So they are pegs and finetuners in one.

    For a bit over half a year now I have my own good violin and bow, too and still love it. It makes so much difference and especially the bow makes things a lot easier. Speaking of that I noticed your right wrist is very stiff. Being relaxed there will make bow changes smoother as well as fast passages easier to play...also your pinky isn't touching the bow(which is important in terms of compensating the bow's weight)...try working on that because it makes a huge difference in sound quality...keep up the great work though😉

    Just seen the "two violins "video. Beautiful instruments, well presented. An outside suggestion~ if possible, try a set of D' addario strings~ on using them on bass/guitar/acoustic guitar/ nylon string guitar, have found them to be the best. They maintain their integrity (tone )& last a long time. Till the next viewing.

  • @MinSongKim
    @MinSongKim Před 4 lety

    Keep up the good work! I have one suggestion though, in your bow hand you tend to lift your pinky up, much of the weight should be relying on the pinky to balance it out in your bow.

    One is never enough, that is why i have 3 guitars (1 Epiphone Les Paul Custom electric guitar, 1 Ibanez AEG70 electric acoustic guitar, and 1 Casio DG20 Digital Guitar) and 7 keyboards (not listing here), 12 harmonicas, 2 congos and two bongos. I only have one violin (an Yamaha sv-200 electric violin) and after playing violin for 3 weeks, i need another violin, preferably an acoustic violin with a lot of wood. I dont play my sv-200 turned on, because I can play it off through a microphone! Violins are fun!

    You didn't play your old violin because it's way too heavy. I have a very similar one and I just purchased the Yamaha '200 because of it's weight. It is simply the best in it's class that has a reasonably similar weight and feel to a good old fashioned acoustic.

      @@phuongla4512 based on the specs I believe that the SV-250is about 120g lighter than the SV-200. You're probably right about this being due to the separate electronics.
