  • Excerpts from the video game "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords" This is about Kreia and some alternate or cut lines from her conversation with the Exile in the ruins of the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine, which takes place if the Jedi Masters have been slain by the Exile. Restored content include Kreia attacking the Exile through their Force bond, stabbing herself with a lightsaber so that the Exile would feel the pain. There is also a very long explanation of the issues which are the main focus of the game, namely the nature of Darth Nihilus and the Exile's, and a larger perspective on connections in the Force.

    This shows that Kreia is really not a Sith nor does she agree with that ideology. Many think so becouse majority of players play lightside and hear her opposing LS choices constantly. Yet if you try to be vicious, cruel murderer in the game you are bound to be even more berated by her. This scene is a prime example.

      Thus she set out to use Meetra Surrik to end both the Jedi and the Sith.

      I remember on Nar Shaddaa someone comes to you and asks for money, if you give it to them Kreia berates you which would make you think she's mean or bad. But then she explains that in such a situation - where people are fighting for their very lives - you're making that person a target and you see a scene of that person getting attacked for the money you gave.

      @baluar46 Před 8 lety +46

      Problem is, most of the time you are forced to go either one side or the other. There's no simple way to stay in the middle because you are forced to balance LS and DS choices, and hardly ever given a chance for a neutral reaction. In a lot of situations, you are forced not because devs were lazy, but because you can't stay neutral to a situation like that... like when the original owner of the Ebon Hawk is captured by the Red Eclipse. I see no way to get out of a situation like that in a neutral manner.
      Granted, it'd be extremely interesting to see what role a grey Jedi Exile would play in the game's story (it would add yet another layer of awesomeness to an already epic game), but sadly, we are likely not gonna see that.

      That actually drives at Kreia's philosophy. She hates the force because of the predestination it chooses for people, how it draws them to rigidity by awarding power. In order to be gray, in order to fully embrace Kreia's teaching, you have to be willing to forsake power that isn't your own - drawing on her true teaching of strength. More than just a game mechanic, the way the game awards power based off of light / dark side points is an integral part of the game's philosophy

    This is how I view the scene somewhat and what kriea is trying to teach you depending on your alignment.
    if you are light side she wants you to see that being impassive all the time and helping every random person may not benefit them or you in the long run actually.
    While if you are dark side murdering random people for fun etc or petty revenge which is not needed is not actually an effective way to increase your power in the dark side.
    Hence why my ds exile sith lord let the jedi masters live. Why? you might ask? Per kriea's lessons and conversations the jedi are already broken and defeated what revenge is there to be had? Looking upon them the are scared hermits unable to change or adapt. In my opinion a more fitting form of revenge is to let them wallow in their self pity and use them to gain new techniques.
    When I got to this scene and the end Kriea had nothing but praise for me(while delievering some jedi master ass whooping) exile in my opinion Kriea also wanted the jedi and sith to change. Honestly I feel that the story would of been more interesting if the exile was dark side and Revan light side. Plus with the restore content playing dark side reveals alot more interesting info.

    I think what's often missed here, as I interpret it, is that when Kreia says "you have failed me" she's talking about her hopes for the Exile in being a Wound in the force. Kreia hoped that the will of the force could be denied through being that Wound, and that the manipulative temptations of the Light Side and Dark Side could be pushed aside so that people could make their own choices without being thrown into that dichotomy. Kreia hoped The Exile would learn to break away from the Dark Side and the Light Side, and be their own person.
    But they didn't. They let the power of the force corrupt them, and they were manipulated by its currents as sure as any other. They were just another pawn. She tried reaching The Exile strength, true skill, and the power of breaking free from the force, and the Exile spat those teachings out in her face by becoming just another result of the Force's tyranny.

    My first playthrough was full darkside character and killing Jedi Masters was one of the most satisfying things I did in RPGs, but after that scene I decided to change my ways, I spared Atris, I did everything I could to redeem my character during that playthrough.
    I never seen a scene that would force me to change my character like this did, usually my characters in RPGs remain what they were at the beginning to the very end and many games encourage you to play this way, but this game actually make you to think about what you did. It's fantastic.

However when I came to this scene, I dunno exactly what it was. Maybe it was the music, maybe it was Kreia lecturing me, or maybe it was just the empty courtyard I was in where the council was supposed to be, but it was at this moment it really hit me home exactly what I had done and the ramifications of that really started to sink in. You had destroyed the Jedi order utterly and completely. It will absolutely never come back and never have any hope of ever coming back. Its kind of in this chilling moment you realize that the dark side.........has won and you caused it.

    TL;DR Kreia knows absolute good is better than unrestrained evil.
    Light siders gain strength and power by taking on others struggles and gaining that experience.
    Dark siders that kill indiscriminately eliminate sources of growth and power by eliminating that struggle .
    Eliminating a strong opponent does not truly grow one's strength, either, until the time is right.
    How can one run with the wolves come night when they spend all day sparring with puppies?
    Learn from enemies. Physically best them if one must but spare them. Spare them until they can broken. Once they are broken death is a mercy and they may come to serve. Be wary of such service, however. When they make their move they may finally be destroyed. That is how strength is earned through the dark side. One can not feed off the power of others when everyone is dead.

Kreia meant for the Exile to get past unresolved events from her history, falling to the dark side over those events is a failure to do so.

      I think Kreia was heavily biased because The Exile, if Kreias plan came to fruition, would have killed the force itself. Something that she hates with every fiber of her being.
      I think it's like raising a student of your own who goes on to discover their own path but still accomplishes great things, vs raising a student and watching them grow and become exactly what you were hoping they would become. Like say, a doctor that trains their first student who finally discovers the cure for the common cold. A ground breaking achievement to be sure, but not what they personally hoped the student would accomplish. And then the second student eventually goes on to find the cure for cancer, which is what the doctor truly wanted all along because they themselves just could not do it on their own, no matter how hard they tried.
      The doctor isn't necessarily dissapointed with his first student, but watching the second student essentially become their legacy is all they ever wished for. That doesn't mean that either student is better than the other.

    • @KnightsAndDarths
      @KnightsAndDarths  Před 8 lety +122

      +HPB 1998 Basically she's mad at the Exile because she's casting a poor reflection on her. Yes, she was able to best the Jedi Masters in battle, but by Kreia's teaching, a victory is only such if you win because you are right, and not because you switched on your lightsaber. At this point in the game she asks you whether you're satisfied seeing them dead or whether you intend to keep going; you want to keep going, and Kreia takes that as a failure, because you're clearly being ruled by the Dark Side, you're not in control. Understand that this is what happens to Kreia all the time: she gives all her knowledge to a student, and only monsters come out of her tutelage. You were supposed to be her last chance to prove to herself and everyone else that her teachings were correct. She couldn't be more pissed.

      +HPB 1998 I don't think she could be more pissed in the Light Side version of the scene either. Kreia finds a broken Jedi on an old Republic ship, manipulates him and takes him across the galaxy to gather the Jedi and make the Exile in to the student she wanted them to be. All for one purpose: to prove to the Jedi that her teachings are right, and the Jedi's teachings were wrong. Then, after all that had happened, the Jedi still act as stubborn as ever, so she's forced to use her last resort and cut them off from the force, and subsequently kill them.

    • @dreadrath
      @dreadrath Před 8 lety +7

      +Darth Creator Or the law of the force in Star War's case, and Kreia wanted nothing more than to kill The Force itself, which would probably have resulted in the mass genocide of all living things, sentient life, animals, flora, planets, stars ad who knows what else if the force really does connect everything, including both Light and Dark sides.
      She is one of my all time favorite video game characters, but her goal is quite possibly the most evil ambition I've ever seen in fiction since she's prepared to potentially condemn all existence to absolute extinction just to prove the force is the puppet master of all the wrongs in life. I mean even the most vile, evil Sith or most virtuous Jedi wouldn't seek the destruction of the very thing that gives him/her their power to serve themselves or help others respectively.

    "Is it as you expected? This is all that is left. An empty chamber, and an echo of what once was. Your actions have crippled the order, perhaps destroyed it. But before enjoying this victory, there is something we must discuss first. Vrook was right to come here, though he did not recognize the connection until too late. You are tied to places such as these you know. Master Vrook was unable to admit that the echo of Dantooine he felt was inside you as well. They admitted it as much in the council chamber after your 'trial', though they did not understand what it meant at first. They assumed it was a threat that they felt -- from one perspective they were correct.
    As much as you can form connections to others, such connections exist on planetary scale as well. It is possible to hurt or sever those connections, to create places in reality where it is difficult to center one's self, but that is the crudest form of manipulation. It is possible to affect those connections in other wise by the slightest actions, a seemingly minor choice or a small cruelty. Surely you have noticed it in your companions? Your actions influence theirs? It may seem a minor thing, but it is not. It is the power upon which empires can be made. The stronger your connection to life, to the force, the stronger these echoes can be made. And the stronger they are felt.
    When heard, force sensitives instinctively seek out the source, are drawn to it to try and form a connection. And when the connection is formed, both become stronger and the influence between them grows. Your... companions; many are touched by the force on some level. And in many ways they serve out of compulsion and because your connection influences them strongly. It was much like how it was for you in the Mandalorian Wars. With many Jedi under your command. But this connection has other consequences.
    When the source is wounded, the one on which others draw strength, they are wounded as well. What one feels, the other feels. And when others die, a scream travels back to the source. If they occur at the same time or at the right time, these screams will build upon each other until it is the only sound you can hear. And the deaths of many will cause the screams to build until their pain becomes yours and you die as well. And that is why during the Mandalorian Wars you lost your connection to The Force. It was that final battle, the deaths of so many Jedi that caused you to lose your connection. It caused the wound that you feel now, it caused pain in the force -- an emptiness. A wound that is yet to heal.
    But it does not end there. If it did, then perhaps the threat we face would be more 'manageable'. This pain I describe, the echo of these acts is true of planets as well. Tremendous loss of life on a planetary scale can also cast echoes, create a scream, a wound in the force that can travel across the galaxy. It can be felt by force sensitives, and can influence them whether they realize it or not. Anyone can do such things since life is connected by the force. Sometimes the connections are faint, but in your case they are very strong. You instinctively know how to manipulate such connections and to influence others. You have seen it mirrored in those who travel with you, you give others strength to act but it is also possible to draw upon the strength of others to increase your own. It is similar to drawing upon the force as Jedi do, but when it is touched by the power of the Dark Side, it is something else. Something deadly.
    These "Sith" we face, they have learned how to do this. It is a technique that has been lost for some time, not seen in the days since the Ancient Sith. They can use it to consume other force sensitives, and at the highest pinnacle of power -- use it to consume anything that lives. The blind sear, her Master has harnessed this technique. And he is rapidly approaching the height of its power. I fear he may even rival some of the Ancient Sith. He is already more of a force than a living thing, a hole in the force that threatens to draw everything into it. And the teaching must die with him, or else all life will be placed in jeopardy.
    The destruction of the order, the masters, it was not an end in its self. I did not expect them to still live. Their presence was knowledge I did not possess. But now this has been corrected. And now the sides of this conflict are as I had thought them to be. There are no more unknowns. But this moment is all that really matters. It was never my wish that you find the masters, only find yourself. Although I did not expect them to still live, I had hoped you would learn something from the Jedi masters as they fell before you. Not just of battle, but of yourself. And the force.
    You must understand, I did not wish the Jedi dead. Defeated perhaps. I merely wished them to see that they and their teachings were wrong. That one could not truly understand the force simply by adhering to the Jedi Code. All I have ever trained have been failures to them. Students who went to fight the Mandalorians, who fell to the Dark Side, who abandoned their training. To see one that had the strength to best them, that is a moment I will not forget.
    Yet it has not been as satisfying as I had hoped. To best one in battle is one thing, to defeat them without striking a blow, that is was my hope. You have failed me. Completely and utterly. I have taught you to hear the force again. Shown you the contrast, and yet STILL you do not understand. This is what you have brought, countless murderers, slayers, assassins, born of war that has as always taught the WRONG lesson. You showed them life, without the force. And instead of showing them truth, power, all you showed is how the galaxy may die.
    YOU are responsible for all of this. Even now, events spiral towards destruction, and there is nothing that can be done because you REFUSED TO LISTEN! To understand! You have seen the effects you have on those close to you. Heard the echo scream across dead planets. And watched as your strength has grown. Yet it is for nothing... to have the Jedi Masters brought low by such failure, there is no victory in that.
    You have not heard a thing I have taught. And for all I have said you have never learned to listen.
    Do you feel that, Exile? It cuts through your defenses, as unprepared for such an attack as you are.
    Let that pain be a lesson, and a reminder of what you have forgotten. You were my last hope. The only one who could change what is to come. And now you have left me nothing. I shall teach you no longer. Our bond remains, but that is all. This place will hide you from the Sith for a time, enough to do what must be done. Stay here and die, apprentice. Among the wreckage of war that you made of the Jedi, it is a fitting grave until the Sith come to end you.
    To end everything.
