- In today’s video, I show you how to do a Google search and find out from National Forest websites and the BLM websites if a specific state and area are open for dispersed camping. We do find that most campgrounds are closed, but dispersed camping is still open.

I was staying at a primative camping area at a wildlife preserve in MD, (really just a dirt parking area and the forest), when in the middle of the night 4 Sheriff cars with there high beams on woke me up and one other person and we were told we had to leave or be arrested as the governor had ordered all state preserves and facility closed...I am now currently staying at local store's parking lot....I think being in the woods is better way of social distanceing then a heavy populated store parking lot but you can't argue with police...
Messed up... we live in an rv IN portland Oregon industrial areas.. (move every other day)... for weeks parking enforcment has been shut down.
Police force was already 25% short before virus and 15%more are now on quarantine leave...
Outside the city we would burn more gas for work (we have a 150cc scooter and cargontrailer).
And supply runs. Regardless where your at.
We are often lumped into the "Homeless" category which gives as much leeway freedoms as we get uniformed idiots making snide comments as he rides by on a electric bike...
In the end our life has changed in 1 way. Were saving MORE money by not spending it.
Outside the city a cop dosent see and deal with TRV lifestyles tend to be "callused". (Remember there being protective of there community/family so give em a break).
In the city and outskirts cops deal with homless and zombie RV's all the time... cleanlyness and legit plates and tags are appreciated....
In the end if you cannot work on your rig by yourself.... dont go rv lifestyle. Go get a mechanics class first.

Yea....You were completely isolated and the government in all of it's wisdom said you can't be there because you need to be isolated. Lol. Good Lord! I even saw a dude get arrested for being on a paddle board out in the water all by himself because of " Covid laws" Lol Sheesh!
I live right next to a national forest. No change at all. Except that more people are hiking in it than ive seen in 5 years of living here.
here in my city in canada, i have NEVER seen so many folk walking on the sidewalk!!
I wonder why so many r hiking & walking...maybe because they are tired of just sitting...what better way to become reacquainted with the natural world...than hiking. I really enjoy hiking. I just call it walking tho...😊. I love this wonderful channel....many thanks to Bob Wells for providing so much information...the world seems to Have reached some kind of tipping point...I personally don’t believe we will ever go back to the way things were back then...we have to learn a new way of existing.
I haven’t had any problems on any dispersed here in SoCal and Western AZ border areas... there is so much room, we can be isolation and social distanced ALL day long💜be well y’allz

In the Netherlands a lot of marine harber are closed, olso where I stay. Because I live on my boat the police good not move me from the harber, but whit this beautiful weather it is no fun because I can not sail! The local government closet it so your not allowed to go out with your boat. If there is one place your save from the Corona virus is when your on the water. Bob I am happy that the van livers can still drive around!👍

Unfortunately, camping in Washington state is a nightmare, especially dispersed. It was already difficult and crowded, but it's much worse now
Bob good information as usual. Best not believe in rumors but it’s better to get it directly from the source where you know where you can camp in dispersed areas like you showed us on Google maps. Thank you for this good info! I watched a vid yesterday of an RVer who was in the middle of BLM land in CA. All around him was just desert and a few mountains in the distance -- no people. A ranger drove up to him and told him he had 30 minutes to pack up his stuff and leave. But that's CA for you.
I saw that too. While the Sheriff had no real power to ask him to move, IMO he did the right thing and moved. It isn't worth arguing.

Thanks, Bob, for showing us how to be resourceful and responsible campers by doing our own homework and making informed decisions.
Vacation arrived and we went south and parked overnight at our favorite truck travel plaza. We did a little sightseeing of our favorite county/area there, ate our own food and slept on our own pillows. While there we social distanced, used masks, washed hands coming in and going out, and used a fresh paper towel to enter and exit. It was great fun watching the trucks and others simply come and go. I felt connected and comforted. I'm still a little sad, but everything will be okay.
Funny, people worried about weather or not OUR public lands are open, while you got folks in major cities camping under overpasses, sidewalks, and medians. Just saying there’s a lot more to worry about than parking and sleeping in the middle of nowhere. Enjoy the videos, keep up the good work Bob!

If you come camp in California and plan to build a fire or cook with a BBQ grill whether its gas or bricks you have to take a fire safety course online and this is for everyone who is going to be go to cook or maintain the fire pit. If you don't have it when the ranger asked you can be fined and told to pack up and leave because of the fire hazard potential.

Alabama Hills above Lone Pine, Ca. was completely closed down to dispersed camping on 4/8. Sheriff rigs running around setting up new signs at every dirt road turn out, telling people to “go home!” Ridiculous! (So they want full time rvrs to camp around other people in town. Absolutely INSANE!)
These restrictive signs are all over the hwy 395 corridor in Ca; every dirt road turn out & even large shoulders off the roads. ( And how much do you want to bet that after this pandemic is over, ALL of these restrictive signs will stay up & be enforced!?)
We are headed for a Depression, and that would mean many more people coming out there with you, this isn't a good time for those workers who don't make a living wage to begin with. Your video's are useful information and a life saver for many!

I dispersed camped this weekend in the Dixie NF is Southern Utah. No road closures or restrictions.

I'm not sure why you had to do this video, as everyone who does this should know how to look up this information. But I appreciate your doing it.
Just remember that local authorities might have different rules and regulations that might cause the constabulary to toss you out. I'm not sure arguing with them that "it's Federal land" is going to work.

The Sam Houston National Forest in Texas has a ban on all overnight camping. No one seems to understand why though. It makes no sense. They close the campgrounds about three weeks ago, and now they are restricting any overnight camping, disbursed or otherwise.

Watching this in January 2021.....little did we know.....
Bob , urban is not more difficult. Less security at retail lots, gyms are closed, plenty of gas stations open that offer more then many campgrounds. Just spent a month at the Wallmart in Yuma. It was very quiet, part time RVer’s are staying home. Only the serious vehicle dwellers are urban boondocking .

dispersed camping in mississippi natioanl parks is still good, no restrictions, the designated campgrounds are all closed though

All campers need to know: The Fed's setup guidelines, State and local authorities set the rule. So, you must check with the State government to know for sure if you can or cannot camp. Remember, all operations have been deferred to State and local government authorities!

I'm coming at this video a month and a half later. It depends, so, yes, it's wise to do your homework, even in normal times. USDA Tahoe Management Unit closed all of its lands in the area of South Lake Tahoe. There's an El Dorado County health order restricting travel by non-residents to the El Dorado County portion of Lake Tahoe. It's still in effect. There is basically no dispersed camping in that area anyway. While I know you're talking about federal lands, my guess is the state may have some influence over local USDA and BLM lands. That's just a guess. I watched a video from the beginning of the lock down (April 10) by a guy that was trying to disperse camp in the Alabama Hills near Lone Pine, CA. A ranger told him to move on. I don't remember if the ranger was state, county or federal. He eventually moved into Nevada and had no issues dispersed camping.

Great info as always, love your videos, the worst part of this whole thing is, I had almost saved enough to get a van and this whole thing happened, now I'm out of work and looks like I'm going to have to use money saved just to live, looking towards better times tho, cant wait to get a van and be out there also, the best of everything to you Bob!
get a less expensive van, there are videos and get a basic setup and you will save more. I’m telling you from thinking the same and spending the money multiple times on just living. Then you will have a home
You don't need a new expensive car. There are some models that are cheaper than others also.

To look up info on a particular area you’re in, you first have to know the name of that area. How do you know that? How do you know when you’ve crossed into or out of that area and are perhaps on private land? Maps? What maps are best for this? Thanks.
Doesn't make sense to close most dispersed areas they are a great place to do social distancing.

I spoke with Crystal Young, spokesperson for San Isabel National Forest Public Affairs. She says Dispersed camping IS permitted by the Natl Forest, but that Chaffee County, Colorado DOES have the right to enforce their own restrictions. So in theory, a Salida police officer could drive up to the National forest and enforce Chaffee county law (I.e. issue tickets, order you to leave, etc.)

Problem is they'll say certain areas are still opened to dispersed camping, but then go on to say that some access roads might be gated. That’s happening in national forests in Arkansas and Oklahoma
@@summerstardust2064 Out west has a lot of gates because of open ranges for livestock. Usually they don’t lock them until people don’t close them when they pass through and the livestock wanders off. Around here they usually use gates to keep people out, therefore they are locked. I found some good open spots though, far away from everyone!

Concerning Inyo County, I can only find an Advisory for non-residents to not travel, if it’s not essential, to Inyo County. Unlike Kane County, Utah, which has an Ordinance prohibiting non-residence from camping in Kane County, it’s still legal to disperse camp in Inyo County CA. However, if the Inyo County Sheriff tells you to move on, does it matter if it’s an advisory or an ordinance? Isn’t it prudent simply to move on?

How should a person handle the situation if they're approached by a misinformed law enforcement official who tries to remove them from a site they are legitimately permitted to use? I have heard multiple anecdotes of this occurring, and have seen at least one CZcams video that documented it as it happened.

Follow the orders of law enforcement, then once you've complied you can set matters straight. Anything else would result in a fine and possible arrest!
You follow the orders of any local county sheriff...duh....or end up with a ticket or in cuffs or both..
Just follow their orders. Ask questions in a respectful manner.

Superior National Forest is closed in MN ☹️. So are the state forests here however the Gov is having a presser today about recreation use.
