  • "It Don't Matter" is the fourth single off Jacob Collier's third studio album, "Djesse Vol. 2". This is my first complete transcription of this size and it's also my first transcription done completely by ear. I originally was planning on transcribing Moon River and I reached about 5 and a half minutes before realizing June Lee was doing it and that his would probably be better. The moment this song came out (July 5 at 12:00 a.m.) I started transcribing it and I finished about 40 seconds before going to sleep that night. It took in all almost exactly two weeks in total (not actual work time, just the days that went by). It probably took about 25 hours worth of work to complete.

    This is fantastic! I certainly appreciate how much work goes into something like this. It's enormously taxing. And this is such an accurate transcription - thank you for posting.

    Indeed that this is the best transcription I have seen all day of "it don't matter" by Jacob Collier.

    Excellent! I've been learning the melodica solo on guitar by ear and was a little unsure if what I was playing at measure 52/53 was right, but this validates it! Seems 100% spot on with what you have

    This is amazing work, thanks a lot. In the straght 18's section, and on "I- will" , you say the bass note goes from a Gb to a F
    , it's really hard for me to hear this, but my ear tends to already hear the Gb to Db. Is there a "trick" to hearing this subtle detail, or is this just having good ears?

    • @jasonfieler
      @jasonfieler  Před 4 lety +1

      I'm glad you like it! As for the Gb to Db thing, can you give a timestamp of an example of where you hear it and the instrument? I tend to hear it going from Gb to F in the piano as I notated, but there are sometimes when in the vocals it does go to a Db like at 3:20. I've gone back and listened to it and every time I hear a low Db (Db2), I see that I've written it in the vocal line so it's possible that's just what you're hearing. Of course, I could be wrong though so please let me know where and I will check to see if there is something else happening I didn't hear before. Thanks!

    • @gijs3000
      @gijs3000 Před 4 lety +1

      @@jasonfieler Thanks or the elaborate response. Hearing it again, I think you simply are right, and that my mind simply was imagining the Db from the part where the synth is playing the Db as a sort of bass note at3:45. Note sure how to think of what this chord actually is functionally.

    • @jasonfieler
      @jasonfieler  Před 4 lety +1

      @@gijs3000 I think I'd still call it a Db major chord just over F. If you tried to think of it in F you'd end up having a b13 or something so I think Db/F is a good simple name. Of course the extensions on the Db chord will change with the measure and the other parts but I think it acts as the I in this new tonal center of Db starting on "I will", or just the bIII of Bb. I hope this helps!
