    A tip flying out of NW for that "I Need To Be There Event, ie Football, Wedding, Birthday." . I would book Alaska first. Then book Southwest on same day ~ 2 hrs after Alaska flight. If Alaska fails, you walk over to your SW gate and take off. Get your Alaska $ back later. If Alaska worked, cancel your SW flight within 10 min of th SW departure (check the Current rules), 100% funds can be applied to another flight, never expires. (Costco SW Cards $430 for $500). This is your back up travel$.
    Day of Flight, never check your luggage into Any airlines (buy large liquids at your destination). Buy a bag no greater than 20in wide (it can be longer, greater than carry on). If it fits the TSA screener, you let them know you are going standby. Check your luggage at the gate like a stroller, wheelchair, guitar. If your Alaska flight fails, you have all your luggage with you to go to the next flight, airlines or to go hotel/home. Buy one way Flights SW to track then individually. Just remember to cancel the SW Flight. The extra effort is for those must be there moments! Happy travels.

      Only thing I would say to this is book an air carrier that uses an entirely different aircraft type. Southwest flies the 737 Max as well, so a total grounding of that type will cause you to lose out on both your Alaska and Southwest flight. JetBlue flies only airbus. Delta has orders for the Max, but none yet. If you book so you hop through middle America, you'll be on CRJ's or ERJ's using SkyWest or Endeavor and also avoid an aircraft-type grounding issue.
      All that said, these sorts of things are insanely rare; Like once per decade rare, and so for most people it's probably overkill to book the same trip with different air carriers. In any case, good luck everyone.

      @@WestAirAviation SW uses 737-8 max. None of their flights were cancelled. But this can be used during the Holiday or stormy season. If your flights originates from the storm region on one airlines, then you hope the alternate airlines is a calm region. Again, this is for "the Can't Miss the Event." Booking and cancelling extra flights on an app is so easy. It's so satisfying when you see your flight is cancelled, you have an calm plan in place. No calls, no lines, no sleeping in the airport, finding a hotel, multiple stops flight to get to destination. Just walk to another gate, check luggage, same cheap price (if you booked early), on time arrival. Peaceful.

      @@jonpetter8921 Don't change the goal post. Airbus has had issues before with their airplanes and those issues got sorted out. Every manufacturer has had a hull loss with loss of life for a multitude of reasons.
      The A380 got lucky that good professional pilots were on board or else 500+ people would've died just on one airplane. This isn't to say Airbus or Boeing are bad companies. This is just stupid to believe that choosing (insert company) means that no issues will ever or have ever come up in its history.

      @@erauprcwa I don t change any goal post. Boeing accounted two of major crash in the last decades on two relatively modern new planes. And now this one. Also there has been cases in Norway where some of Boeing new planes had defected bolts. So many cases, some of them fatally, in short period is not just a coincidence.
      My first comment is in reference to Alaska Airline who dropped Airbus planes for the Max 737 probably because for financial reason. I don t even want to start with how lobbyisme is damaging american industry.

    • @erauprcwa
      @erauprcwa Před 6 měsíci

      @@jonpetter8921 Here's the thing, we don't know anything about this recent incident. For all we know, a catering truck could've ran into the airplane and caused a compromised section of the airplane, eliminating the issue with Boeing.... We don't know.
      So coming to ANY conclusions is a little premature and biased. Alaska dropped the Airbus product because it was expensive to operate and was not certified to complete the missions that Alaska Airlines flies, making it a pointless airplane in its fleet.
