You can tune down a 6 string :) Get some thick gauges if you want it to sound good but if you just wanna have fun then go wild
Save up for a 7 string. I got my hands on a early model ibanez rg7321 that cost me about $320
It came with a 5 piece neck, 5 way switch, and the owner before me put in a set DiMarzio PAF 7s
