  • Join me in this video after taking on the challenge to fix @FreddieDobbs Triumph Bonneville T100SE. This motorcycle is the central focal point of his channel and has been right there with him on many adventures from all over Europe to the Sahara, across the Atlas Mountains to the local coffee shop!
    We continue by resetting the adaptions in TuneEcu, correcting the throttle position sensor (TPS) base idle voltage for 0% throttle.

      Freddy ----- sorry to say this ---- Never go back to the people who worked on the Bonny in the recent past. Even from halfway around the world here in Oregon, it's beyond clear they did you no favors. You are lucky beyond reason that Joe found you.

      Most shops seem to be bolt-on parts places now. Even dealers. I've even had my BMW torx bolts mangled up after getting it back from the barnstormer dealership. So no doubt many shops will just reuse gaskets and o-rings etc. I've found that if you have the time to learn it yourself, you'll do a much better job in the end!

    What a lucky man you are Freddy. You have managed to find a real gem there. It looks as though you are going to get your Bonneville back in as good as new condition. There can’t be many people in the country who would be able to do what he is doing for you. I’m so pleased you found him, and I will be watching his channel in future. ❤

    As a technician myself, 40 years removed, it's very interesting to see someone who knows what they are doing. These days, it's very unusual to find a person with this kind of knowledge. You must have had a bloody good teacher. You, my friend, are like gold dust, very hard to find. Keep up the learning, you'll go far.

    • @briangc1972
      @briangc1972 Před 6 měsíci +2

      The truly sad part of this whole story is that the actual diagnosis and repairs aren't requiring days of work; just a half day or so of actual working on the bike (the video process triples or quadruples the actual time it takes). The other guys either lack the skills or are just outright criminals (my opinion). How does the other guy claim the pistons/cylinders are bad without doing a compression test? How did he not know to check for vacuum leaks? Was he just incompetent or a lying thief?

    • @alanedwards350
      @alanedwards350 Před 6 měsíci +1

      Hi Brian, I think you are absolutely right they do lack the knowledge and claim to be experts which is criminal in my opinion, they have probably got their reputation, purely on servicing. It doesn't take a genius to do that. Anyway, mate, thanks for the reply. Good luck with the bike

    Fascinating series. Really gratifying to watch your work and methodology. No ordinary shop could ever recoup their costs for properly diagnosing and correcting all of the issues a bike in this condition has. But no doubt you will have saved this machine from an otherwise miserable fate. Hope Freddie can reward you accordingly. You’re a true craftsman. You will have followers (and bikes) lined up at your door if you don’t already!

    I am a huge believer in people like yourself doing work like this, and of owners being mechanics. I own 75 honda cb750 and 2013 triumph scrambler. And being a self taught mechanic has saved me thousands.

    Here's a bike that would have been totaled out, or taken thousands of dollars for labor alone.

I know it’s not same but I had a problem with a digger that was down on power and I went through everything turbo boost ,filters etc then I done something I should have done at the beginning and that was to check fuel pressure. I found the pressure was slightly down and I found a one wayvalve cracked, changed the valve and the engine gained that extra power and all was good. I bet it is those o rings . Looking good. Yes, it still sounds like the cams need adjusting . You can hear that lumpy cycle. I like your methodical approach mate.

    I have absolutely no idea what he’s talking about but it’s still great to watch and to see the skill and progress… I ride and enjoy my bike, do the safety checks and basic maintenance …I’ll stick to my day job and am happy to pay someone who knows what they’re doing for regular servicing etc. Mind you, I’d never ride through a flood and my bike is garaged 😉

    Great video, Joe! And what a fantastic series. I guess we're all rooting for Freddie's machine to **not** be a total write-off, which is why it's so rewarding to watch you go through it. You do great work, and I sure am thankful that you and Freddie hooked up. (No, not "hooked up" the way the kids-these-days mean it, but got together for the common good.) I look forward to the next installment!

    Yes. I always thought she sounded rough after the head was done. Plus that puff of smoke when started makes me wonder about oil in the head making it's way down the valve stem seals when parked up. Think the head should have been fitted with new valve seals and ground in valves when the gasket replacement was done. Nice work though, good analysis..

    Great series. Thanks for digging into this Bonneville. I was just wondering why you were standing over the bike. I would probably get one of those front wheel clamps somewhere for a couple of tenners so you can leave it and do something else at the same time. ;-)
