- The Budapest Metro belongs to the oldest subway systems in the world. The first line opened in 1896 and was called "Millenniumi Földalatti Vasút". Today this line is known as line M1. the youngest line M4 opened on 28th march 2014 and operates fully automated without drivers.
Die Budapester U-Bahn gehört zu den ältesten der Welt. Die erste Linie wurde 1896 in Betrieb genommen und wurde als "Millenniumi Földalatti Vasút" bezeichnet. Heute verkehrt die Linie unter der Bezeichnung M1. Die jüngste Linie M4 wurde am 28. März 2014 eröffnet und verkehrt vollautomatisch und ohne Fahrer. - Auta a dopravní prostředky

@@forza223bowe5 No safety issues anymore, cars are replaced since with renewed ones. The exterior looks the same, but the engines, brakes, control, enterieur is brand new. :)
I miss these dirty and old trains on M3, but I also love "Pandas" :)

I think you didn't visited in April. If you didn't and you will: Parliament, Buda Castle, Margaret Island & Bridge (the view is wonderful), Millennium Monument, Vajdahunyad Castle, St. Stephen Basilica, Citadel (Statue of Liberty), Matthias Church, Keleti Pályaudvar
The lines and it trains are so different, never seen it in any other city
Yes, the M1 is Europe's first electric metro (because the first metro in Europe in England, but it worked by steam). On the M2 and M3 was the old, blue trains, but on the M2 bought news, on the M3 fixed the old trains. The M4 is a new metro line, they ride by robots.

Ikr, it used to be like a time machine to go from M1 to M3 and then M4. (Before the new ugly white trains on M3)
To be honest, the first ever subway system was the London Underground, with steam carriages (sub-level underground) being made in 1863, and electrified rails (deep-level underground) being made in 1890. But, Budapest was the first ever metro system in continental Europe, making it the second oldest subway system in the world. Following Budapest was Glasgow.

ahhh, memories floating back.I love the No. 1 Metro. Nice and small, with the lovely old stations along Andrassy út and the sounds is brilliant. I also like the olden-day character of the No. 3 old Russian trains with their bum bum sound, even though they are old and not as safe anymore - would be nice if they either would do up the old trains (with modern engines and so on) or recreate them instead of putting in another white modern metro which is likely to happen one day. Those are bring their own character to a Metro ride. Numbers 2 and 4 are so modern, their beep beep sound is not nice and the trains lack personality and character in my eyes. They are purely for transport, on lines 1 & 3 there is always some excitement, cuz the trains are somewhat different and old, they have seem history. :-) Regards from Dublin / Gruss aus Dublin / üdv Dublinból :-)
Great, as long as they don't replace them by the modern white ones they have on the lines 2&4 - they have no personality. The 3 Metro trans may be old, but I like the character of them, how harsh the doors close with a bang, how they rock back and forth at speed, and the "Kérem vigyazzának, az ajto zárodnak!" and the ringing sound before that :-)

The line M1 was the first underground in the european continent (England was the first in Europe itself), but Hungary was the first electrical line underground in the world

I am preparing to go to Budapešť this summer. Do you know if metro vehicles of type MMZ 81-717/714 and Ev3 on line M3 will still ride ? Beacuse in my country we haven t much them, so i am afraid if i will catch them. Btw, beautiful video.
No hurry! :) There are 222 wagons to be modernized by Metrovagonmash, so you will see enough old trains on the M3 when you visit Budapest this summer. Good luck and have fun! :)

José Rodrigo With some exceptions: here in Brussels it's the opposite: the most modern trains on line 1 and the oldest on line 2 ;-)
Kann man Probleme bekommen wenn man in Budapest die U-Bahn filmt, denn ich bin bald dort und möchte die auch Filmen. Ist dir da irgendwas passiert oder nicht?
Wenn du kein Stativ benutzt, ist das Filmen ohne Probleme möglich. Viel Spaß in Budapest! :)

Ja, ein Stativ habe ich für ein paar Aufnahmen benutzt, bis ich vom Personal auf das Verbot angesprochen wurde. Um unnötigen Ärger zu vermeiden, würde ich gänzlich auf das Stativ verzichten.

I m back from budapest right now for the seventh time in two years.i wish i could live there for a while in the future... it s so... so... i dont know i could i find the right words! Anyway m3 is absolutely the best, can someone tell me the words of the announcement of the closing doors?
It's "Kérem vigyázzanak, az ajtók záródnak." - Roughly translated: "please stand clear of the closing doors" but word by word it's "Please pay attention, the doors are closing"

@@metr0p0Iitain M2 is 5 modules = 100 meter long while M4 is "only" 4 modules - 80 meters long.
Or if you mean of the length of the line itself, M4 was built with a lot of policital corruption.
But the M3 and ?4 line already have plans to make longer, and for now M1 also planned to extend
(M4 for both ends, M3 first to north-Budapest - also had plans to reach the Airport, but this is abandoned, M1 plan stop at the Hungaria ring (Connect with Tram 1) and extend to east.
M2 planned to direct connect with HÉV (Suburban railway) at Örs Vezér Tere
But theese only plans for now, maybe we need wait at least 10 years again to see any change - as we did it every time

Sure, I wrote that it belongs to the oldest systems in the world. I didn't wrote that it is the oldest one! :)
Yes it opened in 1896 but it is powered by electricity since its beginnig, while the London metro in the same time worked by steam in those narrow tunnels.

I got a fine in this terrible system without having even used it. I had never been angrier in my life and this experience almost made me never want to travel to Budapest ever again.
Budapest is worth to visit, but this metro system is full of thieves whose goal is to make up strategies to fine tourist and make a lot of money out of them. I couldnt almost resist the temptation of insulting them.

If you are calling dumb tourist all those who get a fined because of the lack of information, then you are wrong, there are way more than enough dumb tourists. There are a lot of fines in this awfull system and almost all of them are paid by tourists, and I know BKK is aware of the that but decides to let the situation as it is for obvious reasons.
I knew you could get fined for not using a service without a ticket, I knew you could get fined for not validating your ticket, since you nothing else would stop you from using the same ticket multiple times. What I didnt know is that you could get fined crossing a line even if you havent used the service a single time (you know, I was checking my phone because I didnt even know if the metro was the best option to reach my hostal, how in the universe was I supposed to buy and validate a ticket in such a situation). SOmething similar happened to a friend of mine who just runned to those thieves (because im not gonna call them inspectors) to ask for information and he got fined.
In tripadvisor I heard "buy a pass or risk a fine" but i prefer to say "buy a pass or risk a robbery" because I literally felt that was what it happened to me "I was not stealing anything, trying to rob anyone or trying to scam the system".
I liked Budapest, and even though I wrote this, i would consider to visit the city again "and rent a bike and walk a lot" because those 25 euros are gonna be all money they will receive from me ever.
