The story is basically the quote " Too much ado, for nothing" was an anime.
There is no progression of story, despite the first three episodes, being geniunely interesting.
I would say,watch and makeup your own mind ( but don't curse me for the time you'd have wasted watching the show/reading the manga).

He did wind up with the girl he shut down in the end and it was the right path for both characters really. Don't hold on to unhealthy attachments. Life is like little rafts in a giant river, sometimes our raft drifts closer to anothers for a time, and usually they drift apart and go down different tributaries and forks then ours, trying to hold on to someone you aren't meant to hold on to can mean you both get stuck at a fork and neither truly moving forward on any path at all because they don't let go.
