    After fooling around for weeks with the Lurrus companion version of this deck with Celebrant instead of the main decked Lurrus I came around to trying main decked Lurrus because I felt like revealing Lurrus as a companion gave away too much. People would hold up removal for that turn you pull Lurrus out of the SB and I quickly found myself throwing Lurrus in the oven the turn it came in to keep it out of exile. This is the exact version of the deck I have been running for weeks now especially with the new companion tax nerf and have found that I play Lurrus in this version almost as much as I played Lurrus in the companion version because having to play Lurrus as a companion around removal meant not playing Lurrus on curve and having to make sure you get the value out of it. Now you can hold Lurrus until Priest, Fiend, or Devil dies, and then drop Lurrus and bring back whatever card you need that your opponent thought they dealt with. The ONLY problem with this deck, and I have fooled around with this deck a lot is that mass removal tanks your game quickly (as it is meant to do) and can be hard to recover from since most of the time with this deck all of your focus is on the board and not in your hand. Cast both your cats and ovens? Sure why not? Cast out both Devils to take down that monstrous mutated madness? Sure why not? Drop Fiend Artisan to pull out Priest with few if any backups in your hand? Sure why not. And then *boom* Shatter the Sky or Clarion. Shit! When I play this deck now if I suspect mass removal I try to keep a couple reserve units in hand to recover with.

    I really like this deck. I’ve been playing Rakdos sacrifice and I’ve been trying out 2 copies of fiend artisan and it’s been pretty cool. I’ve had a few instances where I call of the death dweller in the late game and claim the artisan, who is then 6/6 or more, to swing in for lethal. Also he can be used to find other creatures you need and as a sacrifice outlet for gain control spells.

  • @PiousHeathen
    @PiousHeathen Před 4 lety +1

    In the game 4 against the Season of growth deck, you actually could have sacrificed the Gingerbrute you Claim-ed for "free" if you have left your cat in the Graveyard during your opponent's previous end step. A Gingerbrute is a "Food Golem" type, and counts the same as a pie for Familiar. That possibly could have set you back a damage from not attacking with the cat though, so it still might not have been the best line.

  • @TheSLATEcleaner
    @TheSLATEcleaner Před 4 lety

    Minor inaccuracy in last game, but lethal could've happened the turn before concession (though it didn't matter). If you didn't ping cat, they don't have food to recur it so they die, since they gain one less life and take 1 more damage, then you can use second Lurrus to recur scorpion and sac Scorpion and two creatures to oven to put them to -2.

  • @Folfire
    @Folfire Před 4 lety

    I have stick to Lurrus Sac in Historic. The mana provided by the Priest buffers the nerf enough to still have him as companion. I tried the Devils in the deck but it warps the purpose and speed of it, since it's still using 4 Suppliers that get along with Lurrus while feeding Kroxa. I would have to say that if the Historic meta goes more Midrange and Control, having Lurrus in main and perhaps one Gruesome Menagerie would be better as you drop your speed to match the format. Currently, but not everything, in Historic is mostly Aggro and Combo, so a faster build that can fetch Lurrus at choice is better.
    The nerf has made two major changes in Lurrus Sacdos:
    1. You can no longer steal games that you had no business winning. This is actually a fair thing to have in the format.
    2. The decision to retrieve Lurrus is one of great nuance and can take some time to understand when you want to do it. I wouldn't get frustrated if people miss the point at first.
    Honestly, the nerf is fine in regulating the companions. If there was a card in your deck that said: You can fetch it for 3 mana during your turn, you would probably play it if it's good enough. I do wish it could be done at instant speed, but maybe that would be too little of a change and only favour a couple of companions.

    I like Juza's version much better. This deck really demands Woe Strider and with Midnight Reaper you get a lot of refuel - no need to play creatures out of your graveyard. Sacrificing on demand is a key element and Woe Strider helps a lot. On top it gives you a token to sacrifice to the priest. The lack of removal for big creatures is not really an issue why i think the deathtouch combo with fiend does not provide very much. Just play aggressive and keep the board clear.

      The fact that you don't know Vantreee Gargoyle means you are not a top tier player. Mythic is not just about your deck, its about your ability to pilot. The players rarely miss triggers, know the rulings on every card in the meta, how to stack triggers, and how to not blow your load when you think you are ahead. Mono red deck and white enchantment voltron deck players are amongst the worst players in magic. They rarely know what the fuck they are doing so they play a deck that plays itself. Your dimir control list might be able to pump the breaks on this deck occasionally, but as far as the meta goes, yorions gonna out play dimir 80% of the time, and so is the healerhawk gingerbroot alseid deck. Keep one mana up and they will stomp your face before you can control the field. Dimir control is not a tier list meta deck. Regardless of what you play in it. Its got good hands, good plays, but a simple agonizing remorse can make vantress a sitting duck. Turn 1 land go. Turn two land cantress go. You have 4 cards, agonizing remorse, now fight to get 4 cards back in your hand while keeping up. Can't block creatures used in meta=Rimrock, thats it. With how many things destroy graveyards as well such as Kloythys, Elspeths Nightmare, etc etc. Essentially you are playing a tap to mill 1 engine. That has no protections, and only really shuts down aggro. Heartless act stops it. Brazen Borrower stops it. Teferi stops it. Storms wrath stops it. Shatter stops it. Lava coil stops it. Vantress is not a good card in this meta at all. Double shock? Shock with torbrand? Banishing light? Convoke the ancients? Mystical dispute? Quench? Essence capture? Eat to extinction? That cards just too easy to deal with and if you are building around self mill, you are way too slow for this meta to begin with. Throw your shit away fast to get him working or he just becomes a wasted card in hand. So many better things to do in dimir to stop aggro than vantress. Other things stop mayhem rakdos better than vantress in the two slot as well. Vantress is a limited card. Change my mind. Lochmere as well.

    A control deck with 4 clarions and shatters sky can sweep rakdos, any mayhem devil or priest. Or a control deck, as long as the priests are killed its all fine, and dream trawler wins it. But its very strong against every other deck.

    I have a 100% winrate against rakdos sacrifice with a bant Yorion deck in diamond. Its mostly just fae of wishes to get grafdiggers cage and 3 or 4 of knight of autumn for the witches oven and glass casket for lurrus.

    Today I was playing Blue White mutate flying life link and it won against Rakdos Sac 42-0. Not sure how close it was. I countered his Oven turn 2 with negate which gave me a huge advantage but still that life link with lots of draw cards worked well

    • @jvitag
      @jvitag Před 4 lety

      Kroxa/Lurrus gets nasty pretty quick, especially if you can get a cycle of Cat/Oven/Devil going. I ran a Kroxa version of this with Stormfist Crusader 4x and found it absolutely mean. Had a hard time playing it in ladder, but really fun to play and I probably won more matches via scoop then from actually face-slamming my opponent.

    CGB, what do you think about Robber of the Richs in this archetype variation including Lurrus

    • @jvitag
      @jvitag Před 4 lety +1

      Robber works best in this deck mostly by being a target for removal I have found. It gets you card advantage and can be a clutch early on if you open with it in hand or mull to it, and can wreck mirror matches, but other than that main decking it over something else is not a good play IMO. Plus it just ends up being a body for Fiend Artisan when you find you need a Cat or a Devil or a Priest.

      I disagree. Jeskai Control is the worst thing because games take an eternity. At least with cat oven decks the matches are usually over by turn 10.

    Hey man I've been experimenting with my own Sacrifice decks. Started with the normal Jund, switched to Rakdos myself but now am experimenting with Mardu as I had been looking at cruel celebrant and just felt like it was begging for a sacrifice deck. I'm still messing around with it, but if you are still looking for other options this could be a road to try.

It can hit in unexpected ways that just leave you thinking "wtf just happened here?", the meta will probably shift around this deck, and I can't wait to see what comes up to face it (just hope it isn't temur rec, I'm so tired of it).
