    Excellent comparison video Ben , similar findings myself but i didn’t notice the Gen 2 board was off frequency. Saying that haven’t bothered really listening to anything other than 11m on mine..haha

      Cheers Neil! To be honest, it may just be my V2 board that's slightly off. Have a great weekend mate 👍

    The unmodified radio has a 1uh inductor from the antenna input to ground. For VHF/UHF, this has a high impedance so very little signal is shunted to ground. For HF however, the impedance is lower and more signal is shunted to ground. The 1st gen mod comes with a larger inductor(looks like a resistor) which replaces the 1uh inductor to shunt less HF to ground. The 2nd gen doesn't usually come with the larger inductor and if you add the second antenna socket it is not needed. However, if you use the 2nd gen with the single antenna, replacing the 1uh inductor with a larger inductor(470uH?) like in the 1st gen mod should give better sensitivity.

    Great informative content as usual Ben, I bet you ruffle a few feathers using 555 as a demo frequency lol lol. Will be interested in V2 board with the aerial mod, cos from the video 2 seems better.

      Thanks as always Richard! Yeah I aim to cater for all my viewers, hams , cb'ers & SWL's lol. Yes it will be interested to see if it improves it at all. 👍

    I replicated your test except on 14.074mhz 30% AM Modulation and with a TinySA Ultra. The V2 board still had its ears at ~ -120dbm and the V1 board dropped off at about 93dbm. Your results may vary :) I've ordered a few V2.5 boards, we'll see how they work. The last radio I modded has dual antenna's and I've tested that one at -124dbm. The 2nd antenna goes right into the daughter board bypassing the built in amp. I'm not sure if my Tint SA is hot, or what but those are my results.

    Looks like the green pcb version is the better mod in this comparison. At least when not installing the second antenna, if It did, that would resolve the sensitivity issue on the brown pcb. So for me it will be the green board mod I think

    • @m7frs272
      @m7frs272  Před 2 měsíci +1

      Yes, despite the lower volume it certainly appears more sensitive. Thanks for watching and glad you found it helpful. 👍

    Nicely done Ben. I wonder if the V2 (brown) will be more sensitive when you do the 2nd antenna mod?

      The firmware is the same for both mods, and I had the settings the same as well. Not really sure if there's anything that can be physically changed on the board. Thanks for watching 👍

    You should have a look into the Fagci Reborn Firmware for this HF modification. And use it on the v1 Board as this firmware doesn't need the Pre-Amp like the v2 board has.

    My v2 has excellent sensitivity, tested with professional test set generator. Something is wrong with yours. You should try to generate low signal levels, it's not clear with the instrument.

    Is this actually the UVK5? I thought UV5R is a baofeng.

    • @m7frs272
      @m7frs272  Před 2 měsíci

      For what ever reason, Quansheng also named this model the UV-5R Plus, not to be confused with the original Baofeng UV-5R as you mentioned.
