I never understood why these ebikes had transmissions. My experience with motors is that with the right motor, you have basically infinite torque at zero speed. That's why there is no transmission in pure EV's. There is no power band. What would be much better and less complicated is a properly designed motor and controller, which takes up less space and weight than all those gears do. Set the gearing at a fixed midpoint, and choose a motor with enough balls to turn the wheels. Max speed of the motor is dependent on voltage, so if you want speed, prefer stacks of batteries in series. If you want torque, stack the batteries in parallel. If you want both, design a battery pack that can efficiently switch between series and parallel combinations of the cells. That's where this stuff should be headed. Away from gears.
Because in mtb land there is still a large range in torque requirements. And because big electric motors are heavy. And you still need that transmission anyway because of human power inputs. Because it isn't a motorcycle
Bro, even carmakers are dumping dual clutches. Turns out plain old torque converters are simpler, more reliable, and work better when the transmission computer is programmed right.
@@kayzrx8 : Automatic transmissions for bicycles have existed for decades. They use centrifugal weights on the rear wheel to operate the derailleur cable. The actual benefit of this setup is...debatable.

Any other former line cooks have their ticket printer PTSD triggered by that sound?
I rode a bike with this new pinion setup it’s pretty incredible
Away from gears.
true. nice example of overengineering and making things worse.. but it justifies more money to some and people liking complicated techy stuff...
Because in mtb land there is still a large range in torque requirements.
And because big electric motors are heavy.
And you still need that transmission anyway because of human power inputs. Because it isn't a motorcycle
Well sounds like an invention is under way. Hurry up and change the world already I want this new motor you're envisioning. 👁️🛸🚀
Profound my brother , if I had the money I would fund the R&D for your perspective 👍🏾
Awesome! PINION! You’ve done it!😃🙏👍We’ve been waiting for this for 30+ years!
Yeh brilliant ! Only cost you 10 grand aswell...😢
It’s understandable since there aren’t many options yet
How can this be 1/4 the cost of an electric car? It doesn't even have 1/4 or 1/100 of the power..
🤔
@@TheStuartstardustthe same reason you can pay 20x the price of a house for a shiny rock that came out of the ground .
@@swississue8550 Honestly, not unreasonable for the stage and availability of this tech.
I will always love my good ol shimano shifter
The evolution of a moped👌
Shifts gears faster than the display can show them 😂
What happens when your battery is dead?
My guess would be that the motor would shut off before the shifting turns off. The shifting only uses a tiny bit of power anyway.@@shergillfamily7983
Turns out it doesnt actually change gear, just makes a loud noise 😉
What😐
And 12k later you too can own this bike tech.
Very nice! Very cool! Now if I could just afford one that would be awesome lol🙆♂️😪
dual clutch next 😂😂
then Automatic LOL
Bro, even carmakers are dumping dual clutches. Turns out plain old torque converters are simpler, more reliable, and work better when the transmission computer is programmed right.
@@kayzrx8 : Automatic transmissions for bicycles have existed for decades. They use centrifugal weights on the rear wheel to operate the derailleur cable. The actual benefit of this setup is...debatable.
@@deusexaethera by automatic I meant one with planetary gear sets, bands and a torque converter. Was a joke .
Then VTEC
Now headed to dual clutch & AWD 😂
😮😮😮😮 Imagine the front wheel accelerating?!
this bicycle is good I also want
Pity, too good and expensive to any crash
At that point might as well get a motorcycle
Good point but a lot of us aren't able to ride a motorbike as freely as we are mountain bikes and these allow us to just keep riding more.
i feel like they're ignoring the fact that a much better invention came along about 100 years ago... like, you do realize you don't even have to pedal, right???
Might aswell just get one anyway, they are the same price as decent bicycles. Plus you wont look silly, piss off traffic and youll get more girls.
Some e-bikes are legit as fast as lower powered motorcycles today. Check out the Sur Ron or the Talaria models. They are sick AF
@@SamAndrew27 I am a fan of the little electric bicycles that you don't pedal if thats what your talking about.
Fast shifitng is such important on e bikes😅
Shimano Nexus RevoShift 8Speed: "Hold my beer-"
Lots more to go wrong, replace, tune, clean. Expensive.
Don't forget to put a rear end splitter on it too! And high and low for each gear!
I still remember my reaction when I learned that certain bikes had gears 😂
Very necessary when going from flat ground to climbing a building.
My man wants a bike soo badd but couldn't get a license yet 💀💀
You don't need a license to travel. Only if you're using the motorcycle and roadways for commerce. Driving and traveling are 2 different things. Look up the legalese definition for both and compare yourself. We have the god given right to travel. No one can take that from us.
A license for a bicycle?
@@bradley3549 I think he means bike as in motorcycle
I’m convinced most e-bike owners are rich guys with wives that would never like them have real motorcycles
That's called a transmission. Congratulations.
Yes there is ! I just looked at it !
Switching gears in park, haha
7,8,9,10 lol
I love it. Seen this on heavier machines, bigger builds, but tech is now lighter and smaller. Love the belt drive too
You've seen bicycle transmissions on heavier machines?😂😂😂
@@AtlasReburdenedThey have been in cargo bikes for a while
Looks so sweet. If the real world experience on the trail is great with good reliability, I’m sold.
The only the thing I’m not sold on is gonna be the price

If this is reliable it is a sea change for e-bikes.
This will become standard.
Pinion is around for years. It is reliable.
@@TheIemant Also costs a left nut to acquire
probably relatively reliable, i imagine the real issue is price lol
it's been around for ages and will definitely not become standard, it's way too expensive for the common bike, I live in the netherlands, a country with more bicycles than people, and a pinion gearbox costs more than the average bicycle
Standard for whom? Not the average ebiker, that's for sure.
About time that bikes started to catch up witj the automobile industry. Its. Ashame its still considered niche but eventually would like to see this as standard on any mid-high end bike.
Mind most certainly not blown
