It is such a tragedy this band does not exist anymore. They had such great songs. both albums are gems. Like a lovechild between Jeff Buckley and early radiohead...super talent
I was here at TFI friday, I loved them. Was only young so unfortunately couldn't get a pass to the bar. Nice to know people still paying interest in them. He signed an autograph for me but i lost it. Damn!!!
I was at the recording of this, invited, along with a load of mates, by the band themselves at a gig the previous night at Northampton Roadmender! You can see the back of my bonce at 36 seconds in.
Love, Love, Love this album, played it to death and still do today.... i was totally gob smacked when someone pointed out that Richard Hawley used to but in Longpigs and what do you know, there he is! thanks for the upload! :D
Totally agree, on and on is another classic. TFI Friday had some great years during the indie period. Hearing this song reminds me of all the Shine compilations i've got, remember those ?
Brought the debut album on impulse on its first week of release.I thought they were going to become huge and I had discovered something before all my friends had.Did`nt quite turn out like that
First heard this song on an early pre-release Radio 1 live session with Steve Lamaque- it was a performance that matched any I've ever heard, as powerful as Nirvana with beautiful dynamics
I loved these years, great indie bands on TFI Friday/Top of the pops. Great compilation albums - Shine. TFI Friday was superb back in the day, ideal viewing for having a few drinks before then going out. Went downhill once Evans got Boyzone/Spice Girls and other crap on the show (He used to slate all these pop groups before). When they had indie bands on every week it was great
Thom York is good but I wouldn't say he was "the best song writer of the 90's",I love radio head, but I think nirvana were better&kurt cobain I prefer 2 radio head, but thats just my opinion💜
Met them a few times at different events in Sheff. Top guys all of them. Hawley is a top dude. Remember being at album launch for some band (long forgotten). Hawley was DJ at the event. Played most of my requests :-)
No I have the whole show this is from and there's no Frank Sonata. I have this cos it's the show I went to the recording of. This song was the playout.
I really thought they would be huge. The Sun is Often Out is a perfect record, IMO, easily one of the best albums of the 90's.
For real, they fell off a bit on the follow up though.
Yes! Absolutely brilliant album.
Just got into it and it is on constant repeat
They went to the states, got shitfaced, coked up &..... damn shame
Kujo Painting really? I love mobile home alot
Tragically underrated band. They were sublime.

Incredible band - saw them earlier that year supporting Sleeper in Manchester, have been hooked ever since
the bass players now one of my uni lecturers
10 years later aha now he's mine..
One of the most underrated songs of the 90s that still stands up today. Hats off the lead guitarist, Richard Hawley
.
richard hawley's solo career is so fucking good
I miss Britpop
I miss music like this
I love the Longpigs
2023 and I'm still listening to the longpigs such a great band but very underrated in the 90s as was shed seven too, pure excellence.
I saw them support Shed 7 at Leeds Irish Centre in about 94, they blew Shed 7 off the stage.
I still listen to this song, an all time favourite ❤
The bass player is our frontman's dad, Simon Stafford. ✌
+Tandem Tell him his Dad is part of the greatest movement since the 60's.
I was at the recording of this, invited, along with a load of mates, by the band themselves at a gig the previous night at Northampton Roadmender! You can see the back of my bonce at 36 seconds in.
Lol.....our band played roadmenders few days after em on a tour lol....great band.
@@marcdelaunay1 what was your band called?
Mr Boyle on drums fascinated me. His parts were perfect and so well executed. Oh, and the songs...well that should go without saying. Amazing band!
Dee had a thing live that was almost magical. I loved watching this band live. They were amazing.
Saw them 1996 with Pulp in Münster 😊
Excellent, miss these guys, I remember seeing them back in 1996, wow, 11 years, scary hey. if only they could have gone on and on and on ...:)
Scary, its now been 23 years
Now 27 years and Longpigs are as great as they ever were 👌😄
I love the way he fully committed to the vocals. It's so over-stated and the complete opposite of Richard's vocal style.
Why only two albums...come back Longpigs....we love you
Love, Love, Love this album, played it to death and still do today.... i was totally gob smacked when someone pointed out that Richard Hawley used to but in Longpigs and what do you know, there he is! thanks for the upload! :D

I know right ? It was music gold every Friday evening, such a special era.
Ha ha. I loved the Shine compilations.
Richard HAwley is the Best! his solo Albums are Brilliant!!
True.
Thanks Mark for posting this magic.
What incredbile songcraft!!! im in awe!!
Absolutely marvellous, Splendid indeed.
Tell your lecturer they should reform-a massively underated, amazin band -the second album is one of the best of all time
Richard Hawley on guitar legendary - Stafford on bass went to play with Joe Strummer - great band - used to see them hanging out in Kentish Town
SO UNDERRATED
Brought the debut album on impulse on its first week of release.I thought they were going to become huge and I had discovered something before all my friends had.Did`nt quite turn out like that
I forgot how much of a great band the Longpigs were. Amazing.
Richard Hawley = God
First heard this song on an early pre-release Radio 1 live session with Steve Lamaque- it was a performance that matched any I've ever heard, as powerful as Nirvana with beautiful dynamics
Class!! Can't believe what an underrated band they were/are!!
i want to go back to these times ! the world was good at this !
What a great song.
marvellous track that somehow passed by this suede fan in the 90s.
god i miss the longpigs! excellent band and brilliant live
one of the best 90s bands
think this is one of the best britpop records and just a fantastic record, every song
I loved these years, great indie bands on TFI Friday/Top of the pops. Great compilation albums - Shine. Those Shine compilations, I must still have some of those at home somewhere.
i've met the lead guitarist for longpigs in france in a respite, he's still there and was working as a psyche ward guy
You mean the renowned Mercury/Brit nominated solo artist Richard Hawley? Are you sure?
Beautiful X
The big head seen first 00:36 facing the lead singer is mine! :p
I still have their albums. Great.
Awesome band - gotta love the 'pigs!
I wish the press could have given Britpop a better name than Britpop
It's 'The Press'.
They'd have gone with something else catchy or stupid , , like ''Squizzrock' or ''Cuntpop' otherwise. Could have been worse.
was coming up to my 15/16th birthday at this point but such amazing memories x
Banger
i was 12 when this was aired, only feels like yesterday
They would have been bigger than Radiohead if they had kept going, great song writers, great album…
I don't think so, Thom Yorke is the greatest musician of 90's decade.
Anybody following Richard Hawley? The sweetness goes on and on.... and on and on...
Thom York is good but I wouldn't say he was "the best song writer of the 90's",I love radio head, but I think nirvana were better&kurt cobain I prefer 2 radio head, but thats just my opinion💜
Love it, fecking love it, goosebumps
Oppa 😢😊
God I wish they'd consider a one off reunion gig. Yes, I'm aware one is dead
Awesome song.
He's still young! :)
whoever posted this, cheers. tune! these guys pissed on bluroasis
I wish they still made music like this
Met them a few times at different events in Sheff. Top guys all of them. Hawley is a top dude. Remember being at album launch for some band (long forgotten). Hawley was DJ at the event. Played most of my requests :-)
greatest sheffield band of alltime! mobileshome heavenly
I worked on this gig!
my come down song after blinding nights out in the 90's thanks for the memories. x
What, no wikipedia entry for the Long Pigs? That's a crying shame...
Well, you know what to o about that....
Is now
I see you Richard Hawley.
That is mad, yeah thats what reminded me too, ive got this on shine 7 i think? Shed sevens Chasing rainbows is on there too, great times!
TFI What a show.!!!!
I was with dee, the drummer just last night! He was the real talent :)
ryanholio RIP
This must have been fun to play.
none of the kids jumping to this fucking tune....
The drummers Blades shirt is mint!!
If it wasn’t for this song I’ve never have known what real music was !
@rattleandhumgirl The bass player is Simon Stafford
I can hear it...
This song still rocks though, no doubt about it.
That end bit. 90s what are you like lol.
HAHAHA look at Richard Hawley. I never knew these guys first time round but they do sound incredible. I do wish they'd let Hawley sing though! :)
Richard Hawley actually hasn't changed that much appearancewise
What time of day does Richard Hawley put his Rock-a-Billy gear on?
So good!! do they only have the one album?
No. Theres 2
what ever happened to the longpigs? I do miss them!!!
No I have the whole show this is from and there's no Frank Sonata. I have this cos it's the show I went to the recording of. This song was the playout.
love liam gallagher on the drums
모두 최고이지만 그래도 이 라이브에서 기타솔로는 최고 였다.
They're all the best, but the guitar solo was still the best in this live.
Overall, I hated Britpop - but Longpigs 'The Sun Is Often Out' and Bluetones first LP were great records of that period.
@bassthing26 aye, lived next door to dee last year. f'king legend
who is the bassist??
Even Chris got their name wrong..
hear hear lol. see ya int park mine a double vodders and coke!
his
someone who know the chords in the guitar solo?
Looks to be the same as in the verse, which is E major, G# major, A major and F# major.
F# minor
hawley is god!
its cool and funny cuz just watch hos lips its creepy
