For those who don’t want the explanation beforehand
I think there might be an error with riff #3; I think it goes 3D 3D 2D 3D 3D 2D 2B 2D
GREAT LESSONS! At age 75 and just starting I’m glad I have a “pause” button so I can work at each item that is taught. Very condensed.
Im 57 and just started playing, it's fun isn't it 👍🇺🇸.
I’m also 75 and am expecting my harmonic to arrive in the post any day now.
Nice! How's your progress, Arthur?
I thought I was old at 71 and it looks like I'm the youngster haha. Got my new harp yesterday and I am loving this guy Adam. Can't get the bending yet but I am working on it. Good luck Arthur.
I am 78 and just starting. Good for my lungs.
It's funny, I'm looking at the 101 likes (one of them mine) vs. the 5 dislikes, and I'm thinking Who the heck felt that this was enough of a waste of their time to actually click the "thumbs down"? Whatever. I find your tutorials immensely helpful.
And entertaining!
It is surprising, isn't it? My hunch is that some people are still angry at a recent video I did in which I pushed back, gently and respectfully, but also firmly and directly, against our current president's comment that four duly elected members of the U.S. Congress, three of whom were born in America, should "go back where they came from." So they've now decided to vote thumbs down--even in the face of something helpful and briskly paced like this. It's funny! I have an image of Clint Eastwood in GRAN TORINO growling "Rrrrrrrrrrghhhhh!" at the whole world.

Maybe somebody that does not like music anyway...
I started to learn harmonica one year ago..and now,i'm an addict.Greetings from Romania Adam Gussow.
thank you so much for these lessons. I played clarinet and bass clarinet for almost 10 years and because I live in a flat now clarinet really is too loud to practice, thus I started practicing harmonica. One thing that I missed in these beginner lectures is how to do a proper embouchure and once I lowered my jaw and pressed tongue on the bottom of my mouth, that 2 draw finally sounded like a note and not a seal crying. Thank you once again for the knowledge you are sharing
I got a harmonica 2 weeks ago. I must watch about half an hour of your videos a day.
Your personality and clarity of instructions are second to none on CZcams.
I'll definitely be buying lessons off your site when I get paid
New to the hermonica not music and this is by far the best man on the tube to view for getting up and running im so glad he teaches in a way that will make u think listen and try !!!
I love the way you teach.... "I'm not sure you can do that... I'm not sure I can't teach you that..." to me just means "I'M LEARING THAT!"
I'm from Brazil,
You give life to harmonica, thanks for sharing it
Got me a harmonica just cheap from local supermarket and following your videos and I'm hooked. My grandfather played years ago and I have no idea why I didnt show interest when I was younger. Regret it soo much now. Love the videos and I'm taking notes. Thank you so much for putting the 40 years effort in so I can play catch up now.
Dear mister Gussow,
I am soo glad to learn from you.
I watch your videos almost everyday, and really learn a lot!
Thank you for doing this. You’re such a great teacher! 😎👍🏻
Just picked up my old harp again, and decided to check out some of the new tutorials around. Cant believe you're still around Adam, that's some serious dedication
I've been playing for years but going back to basic stuff I always seem to learn something new, keep up the good work
Adam, you do good in the mind as much as in music, you are a humanist as much as a teacher, you transmit a point of view as much as a technique. Thank you, from Brussels
Priceless for beginners
I’ve learn more from watching your videos…especially on the draw notes …thanks
Just started, again. Awesome lessons. I will persevere.....
great tutorial Adam!
iv watched since your first ever vid

im in belgium at the moment
take care, be safe and Godbless
Just bought my harmonica yesterday and, after following your videos, I can follow most of the beginner ones. Keep them coming mate! Cheers from Australia
Hows the progress so far?
Harmonica is one of those instruments that people have the easiest time to play and pick-up initially making lots of progress from the time they pick up the instrument but drastically tapering in improvement thereafter. Hope you stuck with it and continue to improve!

That is so interesting! TG I have the adhd super power and must fiddle around with something. Constantly.
Maybe I am over zealous bc my memory left for lunch 5 years ago and has never clocked back in.
Now don't you be telling everyone I return to the same lessons over and over like we are both brand new again.
See ya in 6 months!
New player here, your vids are super informative and just bought my first blues harp because of you. Haven't even got it yet but enjoy learning from your vids
I just wanted to take a moment and thank you for doing these videos and really breaking things down. Between your videos and a friend who’s been playing for 20-30 years I’m well on my way to playing the blues. You’re the man brotha!!!
"Can you find those notes on your harp?" The Mr Rogers of harmonica instruction.
Thank you so much Adam-you are my guru!
This is brilliant! Thank you for being our harmonica teacher, you really know how to bring the passion out!
Adam, thank you very much. Simple and clear, from Russia with love
You might be one of the best teachers and harmonica players I've ever listened !!! I've learned so much ! You're the best!
Yep, my favorite too. Detailed explanations without getting boring, which is a talent in itself.
Just want to say how much of an inspiration you are to me. Thank you soooo much for uploading this video it is a great help
Very cool! You're the best harmonica teacher on youtube, by far.
I appreciate that. At this point I've been doing it for 16 years--which is frightening, since death is surely just around the corner. ;)
@@gussowsclassicbluesharmoni2726 Well, for sure you'll be living through the lifes of the people you taught and left something good to them.
Been playing for some months now and I’m so thankful for finding your videos.. I love the style and just not having the tabs is nice bc when you play something I pause and try to learn it first and idk your videos are really getting me to just play for fun and not get so serious with tabs and stuff to follow . I mean I still like that you tell us what your doing though ahaha
Great lesson Adam. The last two are ones I really need to practice and use.
Thanks,
Don.
I've been watching your videos for awhile now, and recently just saw this one. I've been plaving harp on and off since the 70's when after seeing James Cotton live, I bought that Folkways Blue Harp instruction album you have behind you- what a coincidence. Thanks for the video's Adam, you've help me regain the groove.
Most excellent as always! Thanks, Adam.
Thank you Adam!
Great tutorials and a big thank you for making them available to average Joes, like me. I might actually get competent at playing a musical instrument one day. The harmonica is definitely a versatile and convenient tool and I was lucky to find your works to get inspired. Again Thanks !!
Great lesson 👍
Excellent video. Went through the riffs, loved them. Good fun playing for the weekend. Thank you for sharing
Hello there

Love your videos
Great sounds.
Just watched Satan & Adam. Super-fantastic-stupendously-cool!
Thanks Adam! I love that your videos are not polished, like telling your kid to knock it off with the flute! HAHA
thanks adam always fun only 4 riffs you said 5
your the man! thank you!
Brilliant for me
That's a great lesson - a tutorial perhaps better describes it. I have your blues scale pdf and video - and this lesson/video extends melodically some patterns which makes sense to me. Hope there are more available.
Your son is pretty good, you should do some flute and harmonica songs
Just got my first harmonica which is a Fender Blues Deluxe in C, a Hohner Crossover is on the way, but single note has been a challenge for me... patience and practice...
thanks prof !
Hey, I'm 75 also and sing in a blues band in Indy and looking to add harp to my performance. I'll get there. Singing developed your ear.
thanks
Hey I’m 75 also. Great stuff huh ! Thanks Adam.
Please more more more gusto that's ACE stuff for us beginners thanks
Cardinals often peck at windows as a defensive instinct action. They see their reflections in a window thinking their reflection is another bird in their territory so they attack that seemingly other bird.
That's true.
Thanks as always for the video. The last riff you've done before and I tried it then and now and I can't seem to get it right. I know it's a simple riff but when I do it it sounds like Woody Woodpecker. Maybe some subtle timing in it. I'll keep trying
Yes
Awesome licks to learn thanks. Im 3 months in and digging my new instrument! On the last lick is it okay to just shift only your lower jaw to the next reed rather than the whole mouth? Both work for me. Just curious if one sounds better or is more advantageous.
Great to see a some stuff from u.. you been hiding out lately...
Notwithstanding Mr. Gussow's advice about learning it by ear and not needing tabs, I found it useful to have them.
Note: I'm not sure about Lick #3; it's not clear to me how he's switching between the draws and blows. I hope someone can correct me if it's not right.
"~" means "bend"
Lick #1: -2 -3 -2 -2
Lick #2: -3 -4 5 -5 -4 5 -4
Lick #3: -3 -3 -2 -3 -3 -2 2 -2 -123 -123 123 123 -123
Lick #4: -4 ~4 -3 -2
Lick #5: ~4 -4 -5
So ive just bought myself a C special 20 harp by Hohner and if i do the first riff it sounds so insanely different than what you do haha
My Marine Band Hohner C is 50 years old. Always kept in original box. It sounds deeper than yours. Do they lose their pitch over time?
I love your teaching approach. Great instructor
"Hey Mr. Gussow!
I still cannot fathom how you dont have any problems with the Marine Bands' Comb.
Here In Germany the wood-combs of the Marine Band always swell up so you cant play the harps anymore.
Are the Marine Bands different in the US? Or do you "repair" them yourself?
Greetings from Germany!! :)
Sir you really need to tell me where do you get the notations to such awesome blues songs !!!!
I love your videos, can you please do a video on your song whistling the blues?
I can't seem to find a recording of it in its original for me to compare myself too.
I'm making a note and will do that.
@@gussowsclassicbluesharmoni2726 this makes me so happy!
Much love from India :)
watch this like a good breakfast
Question. Is there somebody familiar with peg leg sam rhytmhes? Can't hear what he is doing. Or somebody who has the same style. Sonny terry maby. Too difficult for me. Just a beginner😅
Sound a lot like fox chase, but with a twist
Hi Gussow, I’m totally new to the Harmonica world, please email your first lesson. Alex
