Travelled from ponkunnam..near Kottayam.... to Chennai by bus and car many times.via kumily ,cumbom,theni,Dindigul, Trichy
The best part of this route is the straight road for almost 4 -5 kilometres once you get down from the hills on the way down to cumbum.If possible please see that straight road stretch from the hills.It will be clearly visible and is an excellent view.Also there is a waterfalls on the left when you are climbing which is fenced also.Not sure if there is water now.But when it rains its an amazing place.Other good spots on this route is the pennycuick memorial near lower camp.The architect of Periyar Dam and on whose life the movie linga is loosely based upon.......There are few grape vineyards,once you climb down.One of the very few places in TN where grapes are grown...........
Yes. I have seen it from the hills the way which is straight road till lower camp from Gudalur and as you said I couldn't find any water falls nearby but seen amazing weather conditions while landing Kumuli. I travelled on 1st of jan 2012 and gathered so many people at Lord Murugan Temple near lower camp on the eve of near year. It was so amazing to see the public in the Park also. It is wonderful place to visit from nearby towns and villages.
