The silicone obsession is here to stay, at the corresponding levels of efficiency, as to the dialogue machines. There will never be a perfect detector, at least not to the levels of some specialist military long-guns, but the odd few are 'stand-out'. Your testings prove this, which makes your tests great 'levellers', for us all: 'fan-boys' included. Great work, as always Mike, and as 'they' say, "Beware the man with only one good gun, for he will certainly know how to use it". Though I think that a same model back-up 'gun' is a 'ought to have', to keep it real.
Good stuff as always…. I remember back in the day considering the GTI… I went the Minelab Explorer route instead…I think we are now spoilt rotten with amount of choice we have with detectors, certain something for everyone and even with a tighter budget you can get something very useful.
Can't belive that thing is still around, I was a big Garrett man back in the day, loved the Grand Master series back in the 80's and 90's and then smaller green units, GTA I think I can tell you that thing was not even popular when it first came out. I didn't want one and thought is was too big for a pistol type handle. Even the F75 or F19 would blow it away today I think the new people bought them and thought they were getting the best, At today standards, there is no way that thing is deep Thanks happy to see it again
Garrett still rippin people off for decades. So annoying. Granted the GTI with a larger coil would probably hit all the targets but that's MORE money. I encountered an old guy out coin shooting this summer at a park near my place. He sang the praises of his old GTI so I kind of explained things to him. Then we did some testing against my Legend in 40khz.......which is the best for Canadian coin shooting. Target to target in the wild. He was amazed how many coins he was leaving behind and how lite the legend was. Guess what he was swinging when I saw him a month later? He was happier than he was before and way less sore.
Hey Bill, it doesn’t. I think that is due to more trash under the coil. It actually does worse on some of them. Better on others. The machine just does not have the speed to process and report back before processing another target in trashy ground.
Great test. The tech today for the price is pretty amazing to say the least. I still have my first detector I bought in the early 90's. A Garrett GTA 1000. It still works but is a wallhanger now. 😁
thanks Iffy, recently found this video. just wanna comment about that Xterra with the recent update i believe it will be much better picking up that gold. in my test garden the Xterra, like yours "tryin" to pick up a Walker Half under old rusty Nails at 7 inch deep. i can hear a blip but the iron masked it up; with the new update i found out it separate better improve VDI number not being jumpy, the reactivity at 1; higher than that i would have pass it in the wild...
Haven’t ever owned a Garrett, and probably never will but it amazes me how they have basically sat back and watch the other companies advance their detectors further along than the AT Pro and at half the price or better. I have Noktas’ and Minelabs and it seems to me, by comparison to the Garrett’s’, they are far and away a much better machine. I’ve only based this on vids I’ve watched and test results. Don’t understand why they don’t see it and act accordingly. Enjoyed the tests sir.
Do some research into how minelab litigated anyone who dare research and develop any multi frequency machines. They even tried going after Fisher for the 2 frequency CZ3D, which was nothing like their FBS technology. I've used Garretts, Teknetics, Minelab, Fisher, Tesoro etc. I'm no fan boy.
I have bought different machines and made killer finds with the Grand Master CX iii. What no one mentions is customer service is outstanding with experience I’ve had with Garrett and now recently East Texas Fisher
Mr. Iffy Greetings. Put it in all metal and manually ground it. Forget ground tracking. Bells and whistles off. It's a razor. Wet moderate soil it's coil diameter to elbow deep on medium size coins depending on moisture content of the ground and the lack of emi. Poor performer in salt and a non performer on west coast black sand beaches. Never dug iron with that circuit but emi was a major issue rendering it useless. Surface blanking feature works great on quarters and larger. Was a fun stick where and when it worked.
Really love to see the T2ltd vs anything less than $500 range. Recovery. Depth, ID. I watch alot of performance videos,,and not any bring out the T2 vs $500 and less detectors. Is the T2 still best in performance in that range? It does have close to Dues fast recovery, boost mode, great ID,, it has what alot of $500 or less machines lack. Jmo
Hey Mark, i have used a T2 and F75, both were deep and fast. I struggled with them liking big iron which these newer machines have allot of improvement on. Having a multi freq machine gives the option of an Iron Filter, even the Nokta double score at below $500 has great depth, unmasking and the iron filter to help.
Amazing video. Yea to be honest when looking for a machine I never consider Garrett. Now the pin pointer is awesome but its like they are stuck in the 70's with the looks and performance of their machines!!!! Respectfully speaking!!!
Mike here is a bit of info. I have an old Deteknix Huntsmate pinpointer it is 36Khz and will not work with the The score in M1 M2 or M3 only in 15 single so one of the frequency's in multi is 36 or close it they both chatter like crazy
I had owned that Garrett when it first came out. It has one of the deepest true all-metal modes ever made. With target ID as well, You were in DISC mode in your tests, and that was NOT the primary reason to buy that machine despite the advertised target shaping feature. You might want to ground balance, switch to true all-metal mode, and try your tests again in all metal mode.
I liked the gti2500 back 10 years ago. I remember something in a manual about running live treasure vision would slow the machine down. Maybe this is hurting its depth
When it comes to all types of Consumer Electronics we are probably living in a great moment when the technology is reaching the shelves at lowest prices with the greatest features. The technology now should make 20 year old devices regardless of price a bit antiquated
Completely agree. Getting in this hobby 10 years ago everything decent was that $700 and higher price range. In my opinion we can thank Nokta for the low prices. They kept dropping so everyone else who wanted to stay in the game had to play along. The Legend and Equinox 700 are good examples of that and who knows what the future will bring. Great time to be in the hobby.

The Xterra pro is an interesting machine, and I bet if you went over that second gold Target in Park 2 instead of Park 1 it would slam it. Park one and field one do not like gold at all unless it's huge. Park 2 and field 2 are completely the opposite. I think Paystreak had a video on how sensitive to gold the Xterra pro is in park 2, as good or better than his Deus 2. So I guess you're stuck with the Score with the updated iron bias. Too bad. Hopefully they'll be coming out with a newer update to fix it.
I think they will have an update on it. Ive tried all modes on the xterra, score, double score and Legend to hit that gold. The Legend hits it by lowered the tone break but you do false more on nails. Its a very small thin piece of gold. Tough target because the ground is not clean as well.
I understand why they throttle down the detectors because of regulations. Face it some people would dig into telephone lines cable drops electric lines etc. And yea they would lol. I am surprized that the new image machines aren't choked down more. Interesting findings Thanks for sharing.

Hey Rick, i do like the beach mode but i do not find it great for relic hunting though. Ive always found the higher frequencies perform better in iron. For park of field hunting it does run good in beach.
I have all the new machines, but every once in a while I take a trip down memory lane and get a work out swinging my old White's XLT. I have ran extensive depth tests with it compared to the Legend and the Equinox, even the X-Terra Pro. There really is no comparison with depth and separation. The XLT can't hang with these newer detectors. Technology really has progressed.
Garrett needs to step up their game and make another version of the apex in an AT pro waterproof casing.....the apex works in salt wet beaches but if you want to hunt in the water you cant get the control head wet for the apex
Ok, I am going to play the devil's advocate here. Question 1: that machine you are using how old is it and when has it last been calibrated? The reason I ask is I have two GTI a 1500 made in Garrett thinks is 1989 or 90 the 2500 was made Nov 30 2016. I use them both and noticed it fell off just sent it in to Garrett and they called just 2 days ago and let me know the 2500 needed calibration badly. I have not got them back I sent both in and the 1500 was perfect so I know that the 2500 is way deeper then yours. I have a video out there on the GTI 2500 and others about averaging and watch what that GTI does with pull tabs and iron nails stacked on the coin. Also it works in the field soil even better then air. I'm not saying it is better or worth the money they are asking new because I didn't pay but $400 for the 2 of them. $250 for the GTI 2500. I have 5 coils for the 2 machines. To find the video by West Virginia Coin Miner But don't count it out until you find and watch that video
This GtI was sent back to Garrett and a new board, battery pack and calibrated recently. Within the last couple of years. Ill let Don chime in if he sees this comment on when he sent it back. If it’s performance is that far off from what you are seeing maybe it was not calibrated correctly 🤔 .

I bought the GTI 2017. Started having problems. Sent GTI with the coil to garrett. It was repaired and calibrated with that 11"coil in Dec 2021. In the mean time I ordered my own Christmas present. Pre-ordered the Nokta Ledgend. Due to the winter months the GTI was never used after the repair. Reason received the Ledgend beginning of March 2022 and found 5 Indian head pennies plus other items in my front yard the GTI never detected in the past.
@@papamccall4512 yes that can happen with any detector but I'm not saying it is worth that kinda money but it is no slouch either. Watch my video on masking and averaging of the GTI 2500. West Virginia CoinMiner several detectors in the video series. I own very many and haven't found a perfect unit yet but Deus with version 3.2 is still kick ass. Look I detect behind alot of guys and even my ownself and still find coins, why because ground conditions are constantly changing earth is sinking and raising so don't put to much into finding coins you think as a place was detected out.
@IffySignals just came home and the Two GTI were on the porch. I'll give you some numbers tomorrow on depth but from a real quick check with the 4 1/2" coil with the 1500 was about 7 inches with correct id... but I'll check everything tomorrow weather permitting
New technologies are definitely better. They have better and faster processing. Furthermore, the depth depends on the frequency but also on the diameter of the coil, so I don't think it detects deeper with such a small coil. GTI is more about fame and popularity of its time. I have had older detectors and now have the equinox900 and it is an amazing machine.
I'm sorry to the Garrett fans out there but Garrett's detectors in the last two decades have just not been it. Hunting with that thing is like somebody still using an epilady to shave. I asked this question in a forum a few weeks ago how does Garrett still sell an at pro for $600 knowing that every $300 detector on the market with today's technology outperforms it 100%. This is the only industry in electronics for 10- 20 year old technology still full value from some folks absolutely

I started detecting with my colleague Garret GTI 2500..and we found some nice finds,,.,and I still have this detector....available..in my set of detectors...If you want a large depth of discriminating programs with the GTI2500, then you need to use a 13 "ultimate DD coil and this detector will work well even on 14mm.. small hammered coins at a depth of 9" with surprising ease... and the final depth for a 25mm coin 50 eurocent is somewhere at a depth of 15"... in moderate terrain..czcams.com/users/shorts-xbivYJYP_8?feature=share ....... 14mm small hammered in 9" deph czcams.com/users/shortskFXJo7LgLAY?feature=share .... 50 eurocent coin in 15" depn The 13" DD ultimate coil can do a good job on this detector.... Definitely a great machine (i would say in its time). In my opinion the thing that changed in the past few years would be the Minelab Equinox 600/800 rollout and the Nokta Simplex once ML hit the Market with the Equinox and Nokta with there Simplex for $300 all the competition has been around performance for less money. Its been a great ride for detectorist in the past 7ish years. Before that if you wanted anything great you were spending allot more than you are now. I cant even toss a $ figure in there because you can get a great machine now with many more features than this GTI for under $500 from Minelab or Nokta.
@@IffySignals With the launch of the Minelab Equinox 800, the price market has changed a lot - when it comes to price-performance per detector... and this is the price level where you can already get good multi-frequency detectors from many manufacturers... with good detection properties... But I also sometimes want to point out that the simple use of larger 13" DD coils on many top detectors manufactured around 2009 / Spectra, MXT pro, Etrac, CTX 3030..., in many cases can overcome even the newest detectors with 11" coils in terms of depth detection..in the field..

Garrett tried with the Apex, but that model was a big disappointment too. So many much better machines for less money as shown here

Yea, its. Ice to use the relics sometimes. I have a DFX and V3I that are fun for coin hunting.
The numbers of that x-terra are all over the place. On one coin they showed up from the 30s to the 50s. That would be hard to deal with.

@IffySignals just came home and the Two GTI were on the porch. I'll give you some numbers tomorrow on depth but from a real quick check with the 4 1/2" coil with the 1500 was about 7 inches with correct id... but I'll check everything tomorrow weather permitting
New technologies are definitely better. They have better and faster processing. Furthermore, the depth depends on the frequency but also on the diameter of the coil, so I don't think it detects deeper with such a small coil. GTI is more about fame and popularity of its time. I have had older detectors and now have the equinox900 and it is an amazing machine.

Wanted too wait till hype for minelab or nokta only buy used ones like a minelab etrac or minelab 600 my limit is 800.oo got to buy on a budget

I'm sorry to the Garrett fans out there but Garrett's detectors in the last two decades have just not been it. Hunting with that thing is like somebody still using an epilady to shave. I asked this question in a forum a few weeks ago how does Garrett still sell an at pro for $600 knowing that every $300 detector on the market with today's technology outperforms it 100%. This is the only industry in electronics for 10- 20 year old technology still full value from some folks absolutely

Your going thru pvc too so your depth test is off.
Thats a cap, flat plastic (pipe cover) marker with a black plastic grass spike.
I started detecting with my colleague Garret GTI 2500..and we found some nice finds,,.,and I still have this detector....available..in my set of detectors...If you want a large depth of discriminating programs with the GTI2500, then you need to use a 13 "ultimate DD coil and this detector will work well even on 14mm.. small hammered coins at a depth of 9" with surprising ease... and the final depth for a 25mm coin 50 eurocent is somewhere at a depth of 15"... in moderate terrain..czcams.com/users/shorts-xbivYJYP_8?feature=share ....... 14mm small hammered in 9" deph czcams.com/users/shortskFXJo7LgLAY?feature=share .... 50 eurocent coin in 15" depn
The 13" DD ultimate coil can do a good job on this detector....
And my colleague used an even bigger coil 15x17" DD Big Nel...
Definitely a great machine (i would say in its time). In my opinion the thing that changed in the past few years would be the Minelab Equinox 600/800 rollout and the Nokta Simplex once ML hit the Market with the Equinox and Nokta with there Simplex for $300 all the competition has been around performance for less money. Its been a great ride for detectorist in the past 7ish years. Before that if you wanted anything great you were spending allot more than you are now. I cant even toss a $ figure in there because you can get a great machine now with many more features than this GTI for under $500 from Minelab or Nokta.
@@IffySignals With the launch of the Minelab Equinox 800, the price market has changed a lot - when it comes to price-performance per detector... and this is the price level where you can already get good multi-frequency detectors from many manufacturers... with good detection properties...
But I also sometimes want to point out that the simple use of larger 13" DD coils on many top detectors manufactured around 2009 / Spectra, MXT pro, Etrac, CTX 3030..., in many cases can overcome even the newest detectors with 11" coils in terms of depth detection..in the field..
