Featured here is three separate commercial breaks from Nickelodeon airings of "Lassie" from November 1984. This is when the orange splat logo was brand new, so there's some rare stuff here. Also included some partial "Bill Cosby's Picture Pages" shorts that were shown before "Lassie".

Here's one of the first commercial breaks where Nickelodeon's orange splat logo is introduced!

    What a colossal find.
This has me thinking. When did Nick beginning using the Jive Five's Doo Wop jingles? This implies that the orange Splat came first.

From what I've seen, Nickelodeon started the doo wop bumpers the very next year in 1985.

Darn! When I saw the date November 1984, I hoped one of the commercials would have been Coloring Book Theater. That one aired on Nickelodeon throughout the fall of 1984.

Not looking too bad with Nickelodeon’s very old orange splat in the 1980s.

I'm honestly surprised that nickelodeon had commercials in 1984, wasn't early cable tv known for being commercial free since you were paying for a subscription?

Somewhat. It depended on which city didn’t have full basic cable yet. Also, By ‘84 Nickelodeon was open circuited so it was pretty much free.
