    I be a farmer and I want to transform everything to Digital... Yup !! I wanna sell digital milk from online cows, and digitally farm 2000 acres of arable from.planting digital seed wheat all the way through to having a digital combine to harvest it with ... Now then where do we start !!?

    • @Ionology
      @Ionology  Před 3 lety

      Farming has been going digital for years. In 1790 90% of the global workforce was involved in farming. Today it’s less than 1%.
      The earliest adopters of driverless/assisted driving vehicles has been in farming. The production of food is now a massively integrated digital supply chain.
      No doubt if you research the topic you’ll find the entire industry is going through digital disruption right now.

    • @martinbroughton6655
      @martinbroughton6655 Před 3 lety +1

      @@Ionology I dont need to research anything. I am a victim of it. Digital disruption is an understatement. I have worked in the agricultural industry since the early seventies. Tractors back then had a very basic electrical system of battery, dynamo, starter and some even had lights. Everything was mechanical driven and operated all rods, cable and linkage to hydraulics. The only semiconductors that existed were in the transistor radio in the milking parlour.
      The fact that today less than 1% of a global workforce is employed in farming is nothing to be proud of, you say it as though it's an achievement. It's not. Seriously... equipment that is so high tech is slowly becoming it's own downfall . Last year we lost 10 days of critical time due to a electronic failure on a tractor. Not only was the part not easily accessible on the machine but only a trained engineer with a diagnostic machine could trace it. But he wasn't a fitter that could take half the tractor to pieces to get to the failed sensor.
      Today there are thousands of animals that die due to failure of electronic ventilation systems, automatic feed systems. Alarm systems that fail. Generators that fail to start. Failures within your digital world results in the insane and often brutal death of thousands of intensive farm animals... why because like you say less than 1% of a former workforce.
      Yes 1 person today looks after thousands of intensive stocked sheds, be it cattle pigs or chickens. He is not capable of even starting to look for a problem let alone fix it. Why because as soon as he has walked round the sheds pulling out dead livestock he is already behind on needing to crack on to drill or harvest hundreds of acres a day of arable.
      And why is that !? Because the production of food is now a massively integrated digital supply chain. It wants feeding more and more product for less and less money. Seriously !! ...do you know that todays market prices for agricultural produced commodities has barely doubled in half a century. How much did your old man earn in 1970. .. how much do you earn today.. what was the cost of petrol 50 years ago ... a car.... a house !?
      Let me tell you and all the geeks out there. One day you will look back and say ... remember when we had jobs, remember when we we had freedom. There is only one way this world is going... Hungary !! Your building a machine that will one day consume you because you will be worthless.
      As for Me !! Well from being a farm worker back then , well, today I'm an electrician and electronic engineer, I run a small business with my brother and we build control panels for environmental monitoring of stored crops. The information is gathered and data is stored in the cloud for farmers to download to their phones while they sit on their fat arses moaning about the cost of everything. Our little workforce are all victims of this digital transformation. We are all ex farm workers, we do it because we can but what frightens me is ... everyday I look at the destruction of the world that this bullshit demands. It's not going to be a happy ending I can see it coming. The cracks are in the ground already. I see them getting bigger everyday.

    • @Ionology
      @Ionology  Před 3 lety

      @@martinbroughton6655 the global population has doubled since I was born. The automation of farming has saved the planet from starvation.
      I understand your anger. It’s not unusual when disruption comes your way. It’s happened to me. However I don’t believe because you’re into farming that you should be any more protected from disruptive change than the cooper, blacksmith or candlestick maker.
      Change happens. It’s not the responsibility of technology to slow down change it’s the responsibility of the individual to understand and manage that change.
      The problem that currently exists is the massive disparity in wealth inequality brought about by poor stewardship of that change. This is a political issue, not a technology issue. We vote for billionaires, elites and incompetent privileged right-wing hacks and the wonder why the rich have all the money. They tell us it’s down to the foreigners stealing jobs.

    Why is everyone saying this is the best explanation of digital transformation they've heard? Admittedly, it was a little insightful but good explanations generally use examples- he didn't. He told you what it wasn't (at the start of the video), went on to talk a little about disruptive technologies vis-à-vis companies merely digitizing some of their services before going on the main reason behind this video - plugging his organisation. Not very good.
