Thanks Matt. I was struggling with tee heights earlier this year and even tried different size tees. You demonstrated the effects of high and low tee shots perfectly. Cheers
There are definitely valid reasons to Tee it high and to Tee it low, and you demonstrated it to perfection! When I'm really trying to get after one I will tee it high and let it fly, if I really want to focus on hitting the fairway I tee it low!
with the help of my coach we worked out the tee height for my game . been able to maintain a single figure handicap into my 60's
tee high I get a draw, but my stock shot is low with a cut fade to get in in the fairway at 210m.
I use the blue and white plastic stepped tees, to ensure tee same height every time. for low tees I put a sharpie mark on a white wooden tee before round about 1/2 inch . works every time and dont change my swing one bit to achieve results.
I actually use draw on dog leg left hole and fade on dog leg right holes
really enjoy your videos, especially the take of 5 series which I am now revisiting again.
Always tee high and now I know why I struggle with that crosswind. I’ll be trying the low tee next time out. Class ✌🏼
I like the shiny finish on the top of my Titleist TS2 so I tee lower to avoid chipping the paint when I invariably get underneath way too much ! 😆 Lower has always been better for me as I tend to hit high anyway. Thanks for the video !
Been working on teeing my ball higher for more distance. Starting to see those results. But teeing low is a great option based on what u said.
I like to tee it high, but this is where a really good driver fitting comes into play. If you hit from the inside and hit way up on the ball, whether you're a high or low handicap player - chances are you need a driver head with more spin. If you hit down on the ball more from whatever angle, you likely need a lower spinning head. Once you get the right head for your playing style, you can have options for a high shot AND a low shot. Sometimes, once you get used to teeing it low, it can actually feel EVEN BETTER than hitting a high bomb. I am shocked to see because of the shallower landing angle that a lot of my low drives still get close to or past 300 yards just because it penetrates the wind so well. Using these principles, you can do high vs. low shots with every club in your bag down to your wedges.
Thanks Matt, I've been trying to tee the driver too high and sometimes too far forward! Now I can relax and attempt the high only when needed.
I started teeing it up high and definitely got more carry, and have been fairly consistent hitting the fairway. I will try a lower tee up for tight fairways
Great video. Since my first shot is with a 3 wood I use tee low
I like these style videos. Keep it up!
I have always teed the ball the standard height - top of the driver in the middle of the ball. But I can see the advantages of teeing low and high and plan to test this out. Good tip MSG.
Awesome video thanks! I love to tee it low I am very consistent in hitting the fairway that way.
Thanks Matt! Great info! I’m usually teeing high!
Very good video. When you tee it low do you hit down on the ball or still swing up on it like a normal driver strike? Thanks
I tee it up more in the middle but I noticed when I try to put to much draw on it I miss hit more that way. If it were a little higher I wouldn't top in that case as much. Thanks for the awesome vids!!
Another great program my friend. Be well.
Game’s tightening up. Keep at it. So head to Australia over the break and then hit the 23 Sr. Tour.
Before I cured my slice and developed a decent swing, I had no idea how high to tee the ball. But the past few years I always tee it high for driver. So much easier to cut dog legs if needed, full send down straight fairways. I can only afford to stay local so I guess the courses around me don't 'require' a low tee height. But I'm gonna experiment tomorrow morning at the range.
Nice PUTT to save par! I had been teeing too high and losing distance by hitting high spin high on the face drives. Dropped ball down to midline at crown, which visually looks low due to how high I had been teeing in. Tried the midline at mid club face for low. Going to take some practice to gain confidence. Maybe I need to move it back a hair in my stance as contact is so low on the face? Thank you for defining high and low.
I've all ways teed my ball exactly as you described a high tee half the ball above the top of the club I'll have to try your low tee thanks
Both, for the aforementioned reasons. Great tip to pass along, course looks pure.
I will try this on my next round.Great information
I way prefer low on all shots, except where there is no trouble left or right, and I'm just looking for distance. Literally just what you said. So thank you for the confirmation!
Thanks Matt. Q: high vs low tee up...any change in ball address position, or in address spine angle?
Thank you for your Awesome Videos
Quick question. When hitting high Vs low tee shots is your setup the same inside left foot?
I also tee it low for early holes before I'm warmed up. Love the creativity of this game.
Good advice thanks
I've never teed high. I use 1 1/8" tees and sweep the ground same as 3 wood. I may lose carry, but gain roll. Plus I can hit it off the deck when needed. Never tried swinging up. I actually bring my own cut down rubber tee to the driving range so I don't get sky marks on my driver. It may be wrong, but it's my swing, & I'll take 250 yard laser straight bullets under the wind all day.
Great video. I will try this.
I tee it low to play a fade shot. It works well for me. I'll pay more attention to the low tee-low shot now.
What do you use for your ball tracer? I’m terrible at golf but would love to put together something for myself to review
Have been teeing up low since I changed to a g400 12 degree set to 13 degree, and I now rarely miss the fairways, also using 3 wood length shaft, a lot of people should try that for consistency
That's just a 3 wood ill stick to hitting nuked
I do the same except , keep it at 12.
12 degree is more than enough for me.
Side spin is reduced so much doing low tee and higher loft.
@@IronDrummer91 it’s working very well for me, I went from hitting 3 out of 10 fairways to 7-8 out 10 fairways and only minimal loss of distance, but overall distance is more , as I hit the centre of club face more often, and obviously keeping it in play, consistency is a lot more important to me then occasionally hitting longer.
@@sikim7626 I may try putting it back to standard 12 degrees next round, and will let you know how it compares.
@@timpolljonker9294 makes sense. I had my driver shaft cut down, and my consistency is better. Having an extra 20-30 yards does no good if it’s in the daggum trees.
I have never given it much thought before Matt. According to your definition I suppose I a tee it high guy. But now I will have to experiment. Great video MSG
Late to the party on this one. I like a high tee. I feel the low tee I get a lot of slice spin.
Side note, do you take practice swings with putter or just get up and go by feel? I recently switched to lining up my ball and then just hitting without the practice strokes.... I feel I got way better at putting (especially the long lag putts)
Half the ball above the head is what is being taught for normal driver tee height, when I want extra height and carry it's 3/4 ish above. I tee it low, about even, to help produce a low running 20 yd fade.
I’m usually a high t-ball, but now I’ll also try a low t especially into the wind and when just wanting to find fairways
I am low tee playing almost always. My swing is the same for irons and woods/driver, even have same length shafts on my irons. This reduces the variables, however, I do have a very flat swing. It is too easy for me to get under the ball on a tee and produce an awful "sky ball" that goes higher than it goes down range. The advantage of the modern drivers with adjustments is that on a still day I can simply dial in more loft to get height. Usually though I will except a bit shorter tee shot because I am almost always in the fairway. Around here the fairways tend to be tree lined, and 100% of the trees I hit do not help my scoring.
You are the best, Mr. Short Game
I naturally launch the ball high so I tend to tee the ball lower, sometimes if I have a helping wind I’ll tee up and swing at it. It might be my 10.5 degree Ping G30 but I have no intention in changing it so I tee it lower
I tee it high and let it fly (thanks Zac Radford). I use the orange castle tees. Works well most of the time.
I always get the carry I need when I tee it high, but unfortunately here in Florida, on a windy day at the apex of it's flight it will be at the mercy of the wind. Also on my long drives, I have less control over where it lands on the fairway.
Great tip 👍 it works really good
My go to shot is either a power fade or as straight as I can ! lol so I always prefer teeing up right between low and high height, better control over the shot I need to make good contact.
I tee it high. The ball flight is towering (maybe too much) but like you say, the ball tends to draw and I get a ton of carry.
My other driver shot, I choke down and swing easier. I tend to hit the ball lower and straighter but I haven't been teeing it any different. This has been working well as I do it maybe 2 or 3 out of 10 drives.
You seem to be saying that I should be doing the opposite.
I’m a high tee ball guy but after watching this I’m going to give low tee a try ! Thanks
Matt, when I tee it low, I try not to emphasize an upward driver swing, instead I try to swing level. By doing this I do lose quite a bit of distance but get a line drive safe fairway finder. What are your thoughts on this.
I tee low similarily, like holes into wind and use my power fade to find the fairway (HDCP 8)
Great video but I got to ask- how long is your driver and what are you hitting?
I do both depending on what is needed at the time.
So, I usually like to setup the tee so that when I swing the club doesn't have to hit/sweep the ground/turf. How convenient or not is this? I have always found it easier to do this, but I would be interested to know what is your opinion on this.
Is the setup the same for a fairway finder?
I tee for exactly the same reasons. Great vid, Matt!
Question: When you say top of the driver club head do you mean the very top where the bulge is or do you mean that line at the top that defines the start of the club face? It was hard to tell which you were talking about from the video. Thank forward.
thanks Matt, excellent advice. I do exactly what you say and it does work (usually :) ) MB Ca
Do you change your stance at all depending on the tee height?
What kind of 4 iron are you using?
Watched one of your vids recently about tee height. What about the correct tee height for a hybrid.
Try saying 'Comfort' instead of 'Comfortability' that's not a real word.
Loving the channel and the presentation 👌
What’s the difference between a low tee and an iron, 3, or 5 wood?
To me it's all about taking the wind in to account. It's not the hole lay-out as much as keeping it out of the winds. In high winds, unless from the back, I tend to tee it lower.
I always tee high, but I'm teeing off in three hours and will try this today, thanks Matt
I have my settings at 8.5 and I tee it high. For some reason I still catch it on center. Tooked me awhile to figure out my likings.
Can you explain Jim furyk's swing
Does the driver face angle determine the tee height?
When you tee it low, do you take the same swing as if you teed it high? Same ball position in stance?
My preferred tee height is higher, but I switch between high and low based on the hole - just like your video.
Teeing it high, half the ball above driver head, tried also even higher and that did not work. Haven't really experimented with low, have to give it a try but I'm worried with hitting the ground.
I play the same as you, except my "high" tee is higher. I'm playing to a 6 right now. The longer it's in the air, the more time it has to find trouble.
I do tee it low in windy conditions. I have not tried to tee it high … will it not be a pop up with less distance? Hmmm.
Matt you should have a short game competition with Garret from Good Good.
Low tee for me since I changed to 9 degree cobra radspeed driver. As you say fairway finder, works for me.
I can feel the level of concentration while you are trying to speak and steady your right hand.
I generally tee high. My fairway finder is choking down a bit on driver to give feel of 3 wood. Curious on low shot are you still swinging up on ball? How do you prevent low on face shot?
I was wondering the same. It seems you’d have to move the ball back in your stance a bit and strike it on the way down.
I typically tee mine too high to avoid the driver hitting the ground before the ball. This makes me have to hold the club off the ground at address and results in a few sky balls when I come in too steep.
High is my normal tee, and low for into the wind. Playing on the Scottish coast, this is an important decision
More of a medium height, in between what you were showing is what I try to go for.
My tee height is always the same. I have two different drivers though for different playing conditions.
Hay Matt how many takes was it for that last putt? Be truthful!
And when are you going to go for a shot to make Champions Tour cut?
I found striking the ball low on the club face sees me hit the ball straighter
So be teeing the ball lower I found how to find my "shot" for short Par 4s where I need to find the Fairway to set up the wedge shot in
When I want this shot I tee it up like I was teeing up an iron on a par 3
I tee it high and still find a way to top my tee shots with Driver ... extremely low hooks, and I for the life of me can't figure it out ... I went from a giant slice, fixed that up into a baby fade, started hitting a little draw, and now it's a full blown topped duck hook that goes nowhere and I don't have a clue what's going on
I used to tee the ball low, maybe the top of the ball was just above the club head. Changed to the consistent tee, now just a little more than half of the ball is above the club head. Added a few more yards and a little more draw
I am a high tee person my driver is turned down to 7.5° which requires me to hit up on the ball, when need to keep the ball low out of wind and find fairway it a 3 wood
I'm a lowish tee kinda guy but there are certain holes where teeing high for a high fade works for me.
I tend to tee my driver up high every time, and if I absolutely need to keep it low I use a 3 wood
I tee it high always unless I'm dead into the wind or need to hit a cut. Then I tee it mid-low.
Excellent
Maybe it's just my swing, but I almost always tee it high. When I hit up on the ball it takes off almost all side spin, so my tee shots are typically dead straight. Teeing it low messes with my head and really exacerbates draw or fade spin for me.
My Afib condition is not compatible with bending over. I quickly succumb to mild oxygen deprivation. I cannot cope with prolonged tee up efforts due to the ball falling off of the tee. A consistent effective swing is challenging enough without teeing aggravation. The “martini glass” tee is essential for me.
Tee it high say goodbye! I’m more consistent and in play teeing it low. At the range I do try but I hit the ball all over the face.
It makes me happy that we hit our 4 iron the same distance as I lol Watching good good guys hit a 4 iron like 250 makes me sadddd hahaha. My drives are bombs but I hit my irons soooo high. Trying to fix that though.
I think I’ve been tee’n it up to high all my life. Thanks
Something about better and luckier you get! 😀
I probably tee it medium what does that do?
Ok, here’s my thing. I use these 2 1/4 inch tees for every drive. That gives me less than 1/2 the ball above the club. I have found that having the exact same tee set up allows me to know that everything is the same, and takes one thing out of my mind. If I am playing a drive where I need to keep the ball low, I will hit my 3 wood.
I use a Taylormade Stealth and tee it high. Makes it easier to hit up on it for me.
Middle, I do quarter of the ball over the crown. I hit 3ish degrees up. So don't like a high ball
I tee it up to where you said it's too high, and I've been able to hit it over 300 yards for the first time in my life
Tee high =‘s draw for me a low =‘s fade. On that how a fade started somewhere left of the bunker would work. 😁
Any time I try to tee it low, I top it. But your final sentence is the key “…but we gotta practice”
