      @@ScaleModelExperiment I use toothpaste to rub down and polish my paint jobs. Use soft cotton cloth instead of your finger and a paper towel. The toothpaste is a lot cheaper! I use furniture polish (cheap Dollar General polish) to shine like you did with the tiny buffing wheel and car wax. I get mirror finishes too. I've had to wet sand at times. Do your medium coat of clear and then add a couple of drops of thinner in for the third coat after tacking time. Spray it wetter and faster with a good 8 to 10 inches away. Turn up the tip a little also. That minimizes the orange peel. I've laid on coats of paint and clears without any sanding and just the toothpaste and furniture polish. Don't shake up the can if you ever try this method. Let the beeswax foam come out to polish with. A cloth polishes the more you rub after applications. I have the original Machine myself from back in the 70's when I bought it. My decals disintegrated back when I built it. Mine is just all white. The kit was a new item when I bought it. Keep on building buddy. I got back into it the last 4 years since I retired. I have over 500 built kits from 1960's and 70's original issues. Some are so old there's no date on my boxes. Most of mine date back 47 to 59 years old and never paid more than $2.98 for kits then, at first they were $1.48. Lol. I'm old too! Got some very rare and obsolete ones also. You take care and enjoy this hobby. It can be a challenge at times.

    Perfect timing for me! I'm still learning how to airbrush and I'm scared of laying down too much paint. I primered my recent build, started to wet sand the primer and with very light pressure, got down to the plastic. I'm so used to using rattle cans, I think I spray from too far away. But, I keep trying!

    • @ScaleModelExperiment
      @ScaleModelExperiment  Před rokem +1

      I agree JD, either you are too aggressive with your polishing or there isn’t enough paint down. Distance away can vary depending on viscosity of the paint and psi of your compressor and size of needle. I use a .35 needle at about 18-20 psi holding the airbrush on the closer side of 3 inches away approximately.

  • @timemachinesscalemodels

    Thanks for yet another great video. Do so-called "down draft" spray booths work to keep dust off the model? It seems like they would draw dust away from the model before the dust could get entrained in the air stream of the spray booth. If so, why the dearth on the market. I guess its drawing board time.

    • @ScaleModelExperiment
      @ScaleModelExperiment  Před rokem

      I can’t speak about down draft paint booths as all of mine were with located in the back or above the spray area. The pace unit works VERY well at evacuating fumes. I’ve simply learned to polish to get rid of the dust that always ends up in my paint. I quit fighting it 🤪
