- By very special request from Brent, here is my freeform instrumental version of "Smoke on the Water". A song by the English rock band Deep Purple, it was first released on their 1972 album Machine Head.
We used to do this in the clubs (my drummer and I) vocals and all, and it was always fun to ad-lib the middle with cool organ stuff.
That's what you're getting here.....again by very special request; an offer I couldn't refuse! :0) - Hudba
RIP Mike. Thanks for all the great music, sharing your talent and inspiration!!!
I’m 81 yrs. but, not dead yet. I love this. 💕🥀💕Keep on Keeping on Mike. 💕🎶💃🕺🎶💕You’re the Greatest Hammond Player I know. Much 💕. Love, Chris. ♥️🇺🇸💙

Yeh...one talented dude.
Love your playing
This is when Mike can see from above all that we say and I say, We are Blessed by the gift of your music. Thanks for this. See you when I get there!
Brilliant!!!👍👍👍👍
Deep Purple's very BEST album....Highway Star and Space Truckin' along with Smoke on 'da Water were the ultimate exercise workout for my Subwoofer!
That sweep at 3:52. Awesome.
Love this tune Mike and watching you play it is like watching a surgeon strip it apart with drawbars! Great stuff!
84 yrs.and Ready for 💕🎶”MORE “🎶💕 Nobody can play this song as well as you , Mike, RIP.💕🥀💕
This version of "Smoke on the water" is iconic, unique and unforgettable. I have listened often to this video, it's a great tribute to Mike, who is missed very much.
Beautifully played.
I mourn for the loss of this massive talent! This is one of my favorites of his.
Excellente version !
Je ne savais pas que l'orgue Hammond avait aussi des sons de batterie, surtout aussi réalistes, pour un instrument datant de 1974...
Genius!❤🎹
MIke, you really made that old Hammond rock and I have a whole new appreciation of your talents - that wasn't easy and it sounded great! Good Job!
Really fantastic!!
Absolutely beautiful. Best arrangement for hammond I have ever heard. Still loving Mike's music. ❤🎶
😮 He was Wonderful !!!!❤ RIP 🙏 🕊 Mike !!!!
Mike you are truly amazing!!
Love your arrangement 🎶🎶🌺
Super Interpretation von Smoke on the Water. Ich bin wirklich begeistert von deinen virtuosen Orgelspiel. Danke das Du das auf CZcams teilst!
Really enjoy your arrangements, Mike, that Hammond grooves. Thank you.
Mike Reed Rocks! Love your style of playing and take on the standards/classics.
Wow, you are one TALENTED dude! Much respect!
Rumor is you take requests....howzabout "In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida?" You could have a blast with the drum solo, and then there is that gorgeous organ cadenza afterward, which is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. It'd be a challenge, but I'm sure you're more than up to it!
Hi mike just listened to this really good performance keep them coming
Lovin' it Mike!!!
Keep on Rockin'!!!!
Brilliant keyboard work!!!!
mister John LORD must be very proud, best tribute ever !
One of my favorite Hammond Organ Songs
I listen to these all day long in our Hammond Organ store in Houston, TX Love it. I never paid much attention to these models of the Hammond organs, but recently one came in on trade that is just like the one you are playing. I'm gonna fix it up. There is so much music in one of those, and it's a shame people throw them away and have no appreciation for those models.
They are hammond's of course. If you haven't we under the hood yet, be surprised. The designer was all over the place with these A100s with too much icing. They certainly wasn't meant to be moved around. Almost twice as heavy as a B3. I've seen them in churchs. Ive seen a few that's even busier with 2 ranks of tabs and such.
The mid 60's early 70's were a very tacky period but Laurens still built quality.
Enjoy Sir and watch the cables and dust
Damn smooth....
AMAZING! Mike Reed. you have an amazing talent.... you made our day...well actually our year!!!! Dee Stocker
It is my pleasure to give you miles of smiles......Thanks for enjoying my music..... :0)
Love this!!! ❤🎵
Ma bravo !!!!! Interpretazione personalizzata e ricca di groove, non per tutti: Complimenti MIke !

hi Brent! Yup.....Janice is the very best...and she's an ANGEL! How about that. She keeps me going, and she obviously keeps you going, so that rates Angel status!!! I'm glad you like my music......I've been playing organ for 58 years, and drums for 67 years. I just wanna make music...that's all. Thanks again, my friend, and do take care (and listen to Janice!) :0)
Mike knows how to jazz it up. Thanks. Richard in Dallas
soy de Chile me compre un hammond xk1 y estoy aprendiendo a usarlo con un manual bien bueno un gran saludo a todos los fanaticos de la musica que trae aliento al alna y al espiritu felicitaciones a la persona que toca hermoso instrumento
And tonight in the lounge room, we have Jon Lord...!
The vocals that you did on this tune were really great, I remember them well.
Keep them coming!!!
"By request" ? OK, how about " Light My Fire " with a Vox sound for some of it. I've seen the Doors 5 times and never did Ray have a Vox as they weren't meant for the world for too long. I bet you could improvise up a cool jam. If you want to, do that song but if not, you're still one of my favorite organists
He recorded with one. They still had recieving tubes or valves back then. Even that shorts thing for bass note was heavy put out a Lot of heat. It seems he switched to a sample based sound later on. I like the round sine wavy tube sound myself

What's funny is the piece of crap synth/organ Ray had at the HOF induction. Good lord. Someone there had to have an old M1 or DX7 in their trunk or something. In 5 minutes I could have had a decent Vox patch created.
I got a kick out of how the bass player contributed wrong notes or at the wrong time. If ya dont know the song, dont be there.
Rock music died as early as 1971. Yes, there were some good groups after that of course, but the easy success formula's took over along with radio stations not taking requests to shape the play list. Big money usually screws up most things. The thinking since early 1970's has been "stop the real creative music because people will get use to that standard, which is hard to supply." If you can get them all eating a cheese burger, a coke and fries at the drive through window, it's easier to make " cookie cutter country stars and hit songs". Guys like Mike here wing it and dont give a rat so real entertainment still lives on. If he missed a note, he'd probably leave it there for us and not worry. If ya hit that note twice, it's " jazz".
@@allareredeemed regretfully you are correct. Now the folky stuff: Jim croce, CSN and on occasion Y, Seals & Crofts were coming into their own. That ain't rock. Those that didn't join the 27 club or joined another number later on just went commercial or even worse. I agree like virtual particles in a vacuum they go as quick as they came( sorry I'm a physics fan).
I The Doors god damnit. Where the hell was the mans rig. It's not like he was arrayed with keyboards like that Emmerson fellow. He didn't use a Hammond so what played was moveable, after a fashion.
Pitiful thought I
I'm a keyboardist at a church. That playing along without knowing the song doesn't agree at all.
If you weren't at rehearsal, crack off.
I have my reputation to consider. Having garnered a reputation for being picky, hard on drummers and expensive; I'd just as soon retire with the comment well he was a bastard on good days but he delivered the parcels. Like M. Morrison
@@thepricillove5244
With all the great synths now days and many good ones being very affordable, the Vox, Farfisa, Rhodes, and Wurly did more for music back then than all these new synths do. You could not miss that 1960's organ sound and even with their lack of versatility, they spoke powerfully and sounded fresh on every recording.
The musicians had a huge part in how important the keyboard contribution was but when you look at the basic " 96 Tears " organ parts, a Hammond would never have been as good, nor would someone's cool synth pad. We were part of the most creative and best quality music time in American music.
Lovely what a great player rock on 🤘
Awesome!🎼🎼🎹🎹
That's AWESOME! Great Version :D
Mike is greate!
Love it! 😄💖
Wow..... good job Mike Reed
merci , un de mes morceaux favoris , played with my favorite instrument , thanks Master
I think you made Jon Lord smile with your performance.
Awesome!
Rock on Mike!!
Wonderful manipulation of the Hammond sounds.
you remind me of the late charlie balogh in your mastery and flair for the keys as well as your clever use of the organ's rhythmic percussion section.
Love the Hammond, although I now have a Lowrey A-6000, love to hear you play, brings back lots of memories...was wondering why you turn it on then off then back on?
You are up and coming, keep jo..

Mike, How about the old Sly medley you used to do? As I remember, you had a great voice. The 70s were great before music got different!

Jose’PV .. Jose ,yes this song has always been Super Cool. Love 💕 it. Don’t know how Mike can retain all of these notes?🎶♥️🎶 Chris 🥀
Отлично !
Cool Mike
Nice Job
I always wondered if these later model Hammonds could handle rock as well as the tonewheel models. I think you answered my question. Damn if I could tell the difference between your tone and that of a B3/C3.
TRÈS BEAU SON WOW !GUY
Mike! Where are you? Hope you're doing okay!
harika cok iyi cok özgür
Ты супер !!! Y super!!!
If you're taking requests, I would love to hear anything by ELP on your organ. You pick. :-)
Hello... Dear Mr Reed, I was wondering if you might consider playing 'A whiter shade of pale' as it sounds magnificent on the Hammond Organ - that is if you haven't already posted it...I have been looking through your list ...thank you very much for all your wonderful posts...cheers
Mike Reed did a fab job on Night Train. Curtis Knight's theatre organ rendition is still my first choice, Mike does great on the Hammond, too.
👍👏👏👏👏👏
Wait! You'd play this but not The Spider by Kansas? I love your music but have you ever adventured anywhere near Kansas?
super !!!!!dommage un peu trop de balayages hihi

Tulips on an organ
LOVE your playing!!!!!!! What model of Hammond ????
This is a Hammond Grandee Organ from 1974, with a Leslie 700 speaker, and another inside the organ itself.
So awesome. Thanks Mike 😃💯❤️🙏🏻😇
Which model is that?
I enjoyed it better than the original...
Just amazing your talents sir, have your songs play on loop! I hope this is the best place to make a song request to you(couldn't find a way to send a pm so I'll give this way a shot). I'd love to hear your renditions of Led Zeppelin's "I'm Gonna Crawl" And OR "Your Time is Gonna Come". Thanks and keep up the awesome music Mike!!
Great use of the organ. Is it an X-66?
1974 Hammond Grandee , leslie 700
