      I remember well wanting to "collect them all". I came pretty close, but am missing a few I think. I probably bought my last figure in 1984. At that point I was 13, and wasn't playing with toys anymore.

      My dad collected them in the 80s 90s he got them all except Blue Snaggletooth. But that set was never released where we are. So technically got every figure available. The last figure he needed was R2D2 popup lightsaber, I remember him getting it at a vintage toy fair, $50. Seems like a bargain now But it was the most expensive single star wars item he ever bought

    When I was a kid, I received these toys every birthday and christmas. In the end, I had most of them. The collection came to over 15 large moving boxes. After growing up and dealing with real life issues, I had to move into a small 2 bedroom place with a roommate and found I had no place to store my collection. I ended up donating everything to Children's Hospital of Orange County. Sometimes, I want to kick myself for doing that. Other times, I hope they brought as much happiness to those kids like they did for me.

    The Star Wars novelization was the first paperback I bought with my own money back in 1976. Had several figures like Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, and C-3PO, and the Land of the Jawas playset.

    • @ultra-vivi
      @ultra-vivi Před 3 lety +1

      This is a process called Vacuum Metallization. It’s actually not paint!
      In my layman’s understanding I believe that actual metal molecules are applied onto the figure by exposing them both to an extreme vacuum. The gold (or silver or whatever) adheres to the surface.
      This is the process used to chrome lots of stuff.

    The original 12 Kenner Star Wars figures where great character choices that allowed playtime to be a joy. Followed up with a great Boba Fett promotion just made this an exciting time to be a kid. I was very lucky to be of the right age to enjoy the Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back lines. Unfortunately the Jedi Line was disappointing and I gravitated to G.I. Joe ARAH. This was a thoughtful overview of Kenner's Star Wars toys and your love of these toys shows in this videos quality. Thanks for your hard work and inspiration to produce better quality videos.

I actually had the blue Snaggle Tooth with silver boots figure, but I foolishly traded it away to my cousin for the red figure. This is one of your best videos to date. Would be interesting for you to cover the so-called "Star Wars" survival kit: a set of plastic guns, gas masks, and accessories such as backpacks, grappling hooks, and other objects, for use with Kenner figures. I sent away to Kenner for mine in about 1981 and it arrived, LITERALLY, over one year later, but it did arrive! Would love to see you do an episode on that (if you haven't already!).

    I am only twelve, I LOVE THE 80S, Y'know Arnold movies, Rambo, Knight Rider, Starsky and Hutch, Back to the Future, police Academy, The Goonies, Ghostbusters and that's not even a quarter of them, and ESPECIALLY STAR WARS!!! I've been collecting Vintage since I was five, in my class I've been called '80s kid' and 'The 1980s and Star Wars Guy' so there my two Nick names, keep up the grand work

      My only regret with the Modern figures is they seem so slow to reach stores these days Wave 4 Rogue One figures look ace but they have been delayed again real shame :(. Keep up the great work.

      Not necessarily, if they stuck with the 8/12" design. The action figure renaissance as we know it might never have happened.

      In fact, they don’t really make Star Wars action figures anymore accept for the vintage collection. The vintage collection is okay but they are way too articulated

      Nope. He's in there. There were actually 2 versions of Sniivians in the Cantina in ANH. The same were used in the Holiday special. However, the photo used on the package for the Snaggletooth, was taken during the shooting of the special.

    The first Star Wars movie remains the best!
    I've had several figures & toys (Bespin Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, Bespin Princess Leia, R5-D4, C-3PO & the Darth Vader TIE Fighter & Imperial Star Cruiser), but its very disappointing that the Star Wars figures lacked the level of articulation that HASBRO's G. I. Joe: A Real American Hero line.

    Great video. But you know with me being that original Mego kid, Star Wars remains a sore spot in my personal history. I remember being blown away by the movie and immediately looking for Mego figures. I was beyond perplexed not finding anything because Mego was the standard by which all big hit movies and TV shows gained access to kids' bedrooms.
    So when the ads finally ran for these figures I was mortified. This incredible movie was being surrendered to these tiny poorly sculpted, poorly articulated, Fischer Price style figures?!! REALLY?! You can see my outrage has diminished little through the decades. Of course that was the same year Jackie Smith dropped the tying touchdown pass by Roger Staubach in the Superbowl. Ahem... Bless his heart... he was the SECOND sickest man in America. So overall, that year, while VERY memorable, left some deep scars for me personally.
    I ended up picking up a few pieces from the Star Wars line which I still have to this day. I got C3PO, R2D2, Chewbacca, and the Land Speeder. All still in excellent shape because as much as I tried, I just couldn't get into them. So I quietly mourned the significantly diminished marketplace of Megos and watched my childhood quietly slip away as high school approached in '79. A couple of years later MTV would come onto the scene with girls, long hair, and Aqua-net being all the rage. LOL. Great video my friend! As always you provide informative, quality videos. Tops on my list.

      Hey Rick, with being the original Action Man kid, Star Wars remains a sore spot in my personal history as well because while Action Man did last into the early 1980s, the reduced size and cost of Star Wars figures priced 12" action figures like Action Man out of the market and that great British brand could not survive beyond 1984...

    • @lamarravery4094
      @lamarravery4094 Před 5 lety

      As was explained for the diminished scale was the the cost in producing them and the vehicles and playsets which were needed for maximum playability. It was a genius move. They did put out some 12 in figures, I never got into those. I had all the vehicles and playsets. My favorites were the deathstar playstation and the millennium falcon.

      Megos were garbage in compared to Kenner SW figures. Megos broke far too easily and the price point was too high anyway.
