      @@JohnyFirst I don't believe it took 2 hours - I taught my wife to play and only told her the basics. She used her creatures and artifacts and ended up forging two keys before I got my third. It only took us 30 minutes. If it legitimately take that long, try looking for synergies in your deck. Don't just play the house that you have the most of each turn. There were many turns in many games, I had 4 or more cards of a house in hand and would choose a house I only had one card of in hand because it synergized with cards in play (mine or my opponents). Also remember, if you choose a house, say you pick Untamed, if you have 5 Untamed in hand, you are able to discard any of those cards for free to get them out of your hand. As long as the cards you discard are of the House you chose for the turn. Since you draw your hand back at EoT, there is no downside to discarding to potentially draw new cards that could change the game.

    So many comments complaining about the lack of deckbuilding. This is a FEATURE of the game rather than a bug, and Keyforge is not meant to be played exclusively by the more hardcore group that feel they must be crafting bespoke decks for their every game otherwise the fun is lost. My group has a spectrum of players from the hardcore builders with the time, money, and inclination to make very powerful custom decks ... all the way to the extremely casual that know the game rules and love to play but could never be bothered to build there own deck. Over the course of a single night this Saturday Keyforge has successfully bridged that gap and now we are all happily playing together like we did back when we all started MTG and things were still relatively fair. The casuals just grab a deck with houses they like and they're off to the races just as well as the more hardcore players. The hardcore group is still free to deckbuild MTG and play those decks amongst themselves, but Keyforge is the game that will bring *everyone* together whenever folks have such an inclination.
    Anyway, this isn't necessarily meant to replace MTG (or the like), it's something that can be layered on whatever existing CCG(s) you're playing and can get disparate factions of CCG gamers to sit down at the same table in relative harmony. Also, and somewhat unrelated, I think the actual gameplay of Keyforge is growing on me the more I play to the extent that I think Keyforge is just much more engaging and less frustrating than MTG in nearly every way.

      @nobodynowhere21 Před 5 lety

      @@cringeycronk6710 The lack of deckbuilding is one of the reasons that many people, my playgroup and myself included, are getting back into playing again. Obviously if you enjoy the deckbuilding elements then this is a "Bad feature" but some of us just want to play or play with people who just want to play. Personally, I enjoy deckbuilding but most everyone in my group does not. So I crush everyone and nobody has fun. This solves that, and we can still trade decks if we are so inclined. There's really nothing to disagree on here, it works for some people and it doesn't for others. Which is why it is not necessarily an objectively "bad" anything because many people have found it to be entertaining and that's the point.

    • @tuffkay7864

      Deckbuilding would kill the entire point of this game. If you don't like it, move along. There are plenty of deckbuilding card games out there. For me, I love card games but I hate deckbuilding games - because I don't have the money to pour into making the perfect deck. With this game I pay $10 and convince a friend to pay $10 and thats all we need, and we have the same chance of winning.

    Not sure if this has already been pointed out, but at 24:12, I'm not sure Lewis could have reaped with Krump, because the action card that readied Krump says "ready and fight with a creature," as opposed to just "ready a creature." Not certain about that, but that's how I interpret that action card.

    • @neji2401
      @neji2401 Před 5 lety +4

      Here is the rule from the book: “If the attacker is not destroyed, all “Fight:” abilities on the attacking creature then resolve. Is it just me, or does the Shadow house look way better than the others? Stealing aember seems to be really effective, it has cards that punish your opponent for being ahead of you, and has some omni cards that can (later) be invoked (I don't want to say "used", because that's a defined term in the game) while you're playing cards from other houses. Pretty much all of the game-swinging plays this game came from the Shadow house (bar the paladin that Ben kept playing and the witch that gave Lewis amber whenever he played creatures... which was kept alive by a Shadow card).
    Am I just being blinded by flashy effects here? Was the Shadow house just unusually effective this match?

      @@MatthewBurleson You're either purposely disingenuous or really stubborn, why not post the entire rule? Here it is:
      FIGHT
      When a player uses a creature to fight, the player exhausts the creature
      and chooses an opponent’s creature. Both creatures deal an amount of
      damage equal to their power value to the opposing creature in the fight,
      and both are “fighting” for the purposes of card effects.
      A creature used to fight is said to be “attacking” and can be referred to
      as “the attacker” during that fight.
      If the attacker is not destroyed, all “Fight:” abilities on the attacking
      creature then resolve. If either creature in a fight has a constant ability
      referencing the end of the fight (example: “after an enemy creature is
      destroyed fighting this creature…”), the creature must survive the fight to
      resolve the ability. Only the attacker can trigger “Fight:” abilities.
      Key part being: If either creature in a fight has a constant ability
      referencing the end of the fight (example: “after an enemy creature is
      destroyed fighting this creature…”),
      The card in question, Dodger, does NOT have a constant ability referencing THE END OF THE FIGHT. Get it?

    So the game seems really fun, but can you build decks? It doesn't seem like you can, and that's half the fun of playing a card game... But if I play with friends only, I guess we could just get card sleeves and mix-n-match anyway :)

    • @Bibbedibabbedibu
      @Bibbedibabbedibu Před 5 lety +1

      The Idea of the game is that the decks are randomly generated (with a few rules to keep them useful and consistent) so that optimising and copying decklists as well as some cards achieving very high prices becomes impossible. The nature of the game is that no deck is optimised, and there are no perfect decks. It all comes down to gameplay. I think you have to look at it more as a board game with interchangeable decks than a tcg or deck building game. It seems fun to me actually. Working ut how your deck works and kind of "learning" to play your deck. And if it gets boring you can pick up another one for 10 bucks.

    I want to like this game. It looks interesting but there are some issues. It seems like everyone else is hyped over it so (almost 8/10 on BGG)... are they noticing something I'm missing?
    For clarity, here are my issues: procedurally generated decks with procedurally generated names. Buy a garbage deck? You can't edit it to make it better. Oh well, too bad. Don't like it's name? Also: Oh well, too bad. Buy a deck that's good enough to win a lot? It "ascends" and you can't use it anymore. Again... "Oh well, too bad."
    If there's something I'm misunderstanding or not "getting", please let me know. Thanks in advance!

      I don't know about that. The decks aren't totally RNG. The algorithm that puts em together seems to do a pretty solid job or creating balanced decks. Now don't get me wrong, I've seen some shit... but it wasn't some shit that I couldn't beat after I understood how the deck worked. I think my favorite part has been thinking that a deck was bad then watching someone else play it and destroy me. Now I'm sure we are gonna get some crazy "OP" decks but with the way that tournaments work by nerfing decks at the next event that it's played at, I'm not really too worried.
