Description: Some even older astronomy books and maps I found: • 300 Year-Old Books (17...
This is part 2 (out of who knows how many...) of our adventure through this nearly 200 year-old astronomy atlas, "Geography of the Heavens" by Elijah Burritt, an early 19th century black smith-turned-educator.
*My even older copy of Burritt's book came in a couple days ago and I couldn't have been more pleased. It's binding almost fell apart, so I was extra careful with handling it. We look in detail at the preface and introductory essay titled "Advantages of the Study of Astronomy."

In hundreds of years are they going to refer to the 1970s to 2020s as the intro to the technological age or something? Its crazy to think how people lived in the 1800s compared to just 200 years later.. being born in early 1900s and living to 2010s must be insane, life must have changed so rapidly for them with jukebox, record players, radios, to cassette/8 track players, CD players, iPods, color tv, computers, cell phones, smart phones, modern cars, etc... its like living in a time machine
i think about this a lot too. i’m 24 years old and i remember as a kid touch screen stuff seemed MAGICAL. thinking that there would be touch screens at every day places like museums and schools seemed like a distant future that i couldn’t even fathom. now everything is touch screen, beautifully colored and well lit, ect. it’s insane how much has changed in 20~ years, can’t even begin to imagine the world when i’m like 70 or 80. life is crazy

It struck me as scripture and given the date in which it’s written, that wouldn’t surprise me and I believe that word is Proverbs. I could be wrong. Proverbs Chapter 1, Verse 28: “They will call on me, but I will not answer; they will *seek me diligently* but they will not find me.” Hope this helps. It could be a coincidence.

Hey man, I just wanted to say your astronomy oriented ASMR videos have helped me an astronomical (no pun intended) amount with sleep. I get very bad anxiety without something stimulating my brain, and fortunately astronomy is my biggest passion. With your videos, I can calmly fall asleep whilst thinking about the cosmos that leave me in awe day in and day out. Thank you so much for these videos, it’s truly helped me an unfathomable amount. Godspeed, and have a good one!
that's awesome to hear. thanks for the love
Let's Find Out ASMR Of course, thank you for the response. These videos never fail to put me in a relaxed, comfortable mindset. I admire your love with the universe and how it operates. It’s a very welcoming feeling watching these, almost like I got a Astro-Buddy. 😅
Total pun intended come ON
I love finding other people that also like astronomy... It's so hard to find people that do in real life. I wish I knew why. It makes me sad that astronomy isn't a big part of the curriculum. All I ever learned was the planets and there order. Teachers make it sound so boring as well.
Bro same, this shit helps me sleep more than any other videos I've seen its actually crazy how well it works
There's such a poignant sadness and melancholy to reading the inscriptions in old books. This book meant something to someone once. It was a gift from a daughter. Now all of that is gone..
Yeah. I think I usually call that depressing.
3 hours have passed here on my couch in Norway. Three hous ago I found your channel and this facinating presentation of astronomy and your beautiful presentation of this old book and this author. Now I am so thankful for quite accidently having found your channel as I just out of nothing better to do, than scrolling down on the screen , as we all do I think now and then, but this has not been just a pasttime!! It was a joy, it was magical, and I am greatful!!!
I've been going through such a hard time lately dealing with depression. I honestly don't know what it is about you, but this video helped me relax and sleep so much. Thankyou for sharing your talent with us.
One day you'll end up with a clay tablet or the 10 commandments
That inscription from 1843 is fascinating. "Search me diligently" signed by what looks like Patrick/Patrich? I can't imagine someone reading something I wrote 200 years into the future but with the way technology is going I don't think it would be likely.. although maybe they will start archiving social media profiles, Twitter posts etc down the line for students to study in the future lol... who knows
oh my gosh, yeah, thinking of all the notes I put in my books and then the idea of someone 200 years from now trying to figure to what it means ... trippy.

I have been watching ASMR videos for many years now, but it wasn’t until quite recently that the CZcams algorithm introduced me to your channel. I absolute love your work! I can tell you without a moment’s hesitation that you have the finest voice that I have ever heard for ASMR, actually one of the finest I have ever heard period. I teach music and drama at Julliard, which is a conservatory for the arts here in the United States. I share this with you because I work with actors, including voice actors, all the time. And I can tell you with a great deal of certainty that at least 90% of my voice students would KILL to have your voice. Seriously. What comes to you so effortlessly is a subject of daily intensive study and practice for many of my students. Like everyone else here, I experience ASMR, and my most powerful trigger is a whispered voice that has a beautiful timbre and texture. And that is exactly what you have. So I am absolutely thrilled to be discovering you and your fantastic content! You have a very happy and enthusiastic new subscriber!
Wow I appreciate such a kind comment. I had no idea there was a dedicated study of voice like that. Thanks for the love, that really encouraged me. Best to you.

Thanks for not wearing gloves Dry, clean hands is actually better for the books. With gloves on they are harder to grip which increases chance of dropping the books and when flicking through the books gloves can catch and nick on the paper and parts can flake off. So a little bit of oil is far less damaging to a book than dropping it and having bits flake off
Am I the only one who will fall asleep to these types of videos, and then wake up knowing something I’ve never heard that was said in the video? It’s weird but amazing at the same time.

THE Whispering GOAT
Many years ago, before I even heard or discovered "ASMR," I'll listen to educational podcasts from a plethora of subjects. I'll lay in bed and listen to them on my iPod Classic. Before I'll fell asleep, they were relaxing. I did it every night. 😌 Now in this present time, I already have been listening to ASMR for awhile now. And recently, I found your channel. So in a sense, I'm going back to my initial reasons to relax and learn. It went full circle. 😌 🎧
The rain storm in the background is genius
Oh my gosh, I was trying to read the title, and my eyes definitely read "Geography of the Beavers"
I was well confused... 🤦🏼♀️
I saw the "To Dad.... With much love, from Brenda" 1970 inscription and started tearing up... I hope he didn't pass and that's why they were selling the book for cheap :(
Well if Brenda was at least 20 in 1970, she'd be about 70 now
VivaCohen that man dead
When my great grandparents died, there were some absolutely ancient books just like this... but, like, a ton of them, and I’m sure some were simply thrown in the garbage... It’s sad to think a good, treasured book being sold cheap because of a death, but that just means it’s going to someone else who can cherish it
Took me around 10 days to finish the audio version of this video on Spotify. It just always works like a charm.
The only issue on Spotify ASMR playlist is, I sometimes wake up late into the night and he's whispering and oh God it feels absolutely sinister in that state of half asleep half awake state. But I love it.
I used to work very closely with the head of libraries for the National Trust (a heritage charity in the UK that looks after very old buildings, which includes hundreds of thousands of ancient books) and he told me to never use cotton gloves when handling books, because the cotton can snag and tear very old paper. The oils on your skin are less of a threat.
Yes, this is the right advice.
