I use this headlamp when on my snowmachine. The extension cable is awesome and allows me to keep my battery pack warm. I recently purchased the rechargeable battery pack. 20 hours on high is insane!
The maximum light button on the side was a great discovery while watching this video.
    Awesome product!

Thanks for putting this together. Those pictogram instructions that come in the package are useless! I had no idea how to remove the battery pack, see the battery charge level or that it could be locked.

I've got this very head lamp,.... I love it! while not mountaineering / hiking,... I'll use it while riding my bicycle at night while I'm training for my next adventure climb. I have no regrets in making this purchase,...

Black diamond is an incredible company. I was having problems with the battery pack and illumination. On my older unit they sent me a brand new one the icon 500 and it's amazing. Will buy from BD for the rest of my life 10/10. Thanks a ton BD!

Anyway you could do a tutorial on how to remove the battery pack so I could use my harness? Thanks in advance.

When disconnecting the battery back from the head strap. How do you join the head strap in the back?

So one of the head straps need to be undone then fastened onto the other "loop". I just did this. I chose to fasten on the loop that is on the opposite end of the cord.

The Black Diamond site says that the light operates for up to 70 hours on high.. has this been tested? I find that very hard to believe but I'm hopeful nonetheless :)

Hi Matt. We follow a test protocol that is used by BD, Petzl, and P-Tec. We wrote the specs together with REI and MEC. So, we test battery life by running the lamp until the light produced is 0.25 lux at 2 meters. That’s equivalent to the light given by a full moon on a clear night. It enough light to tie a harness knot, see your feet/trail etc. So, no, the batteries are not producing the maximum light for the 70 hours. No ‘portable lighting’ company shows battery life that way. Batteries are not a constant power supply. Many flashlight companies will show battery life tested down to 10% of the original light output, but we in the outdoor industry prefer to use a ‘threshold’ (the 0.25 lux at 2 Meters) because it is easier to compare one light to another. Hope that helps.

How do you open the battery pack to load batteries! No directions, this video doesn't show it.

@@solisoutdoors2219 it seems really easy to open the battery pack, however I turned a quarter and still can't pull it out. I'm afraid to break it

I have the ICON 320 till today when the cheap plastic battery pack broke at the lid swivel/ battery box interface area. Way too thin.
Not happy at all for a design flaw this severe on a $100 headlamp.
At minimum a magnesium aloy or something would have been a better choice and alot stronger than current materials.
You have lost a long time customer today.
