One thing that helped me with warfare was buying a bunch of squads and selecting them to follow me turning them into my companions when I wanted to take over a large base then just leave one or two behind to populate it. I managed to control the whole swamp, then military pushed me out and I took over darkscape but got fucked by monolith.

Hey kira you could try using the mod "Warfare A-life overhaul". It fix most unique NPCs crashes, the kind of crash that you are having and other QoL changes.
