    Your "decision making" story was very touching. I agree with your conclusion and believe the tattoo was a clear sign for you to stick with your hearts longing. Stick with your original plan because in the long run you will always wonder "what if." You are going to change lives Marla Kris!! I believe that with all my heart!

    Love, love, love your how to videos! And thank you for the tip on using Primer after dip. I had NO IDEA you could do that. I don't typically gel top coat because I have some pretty great dip liquids I love. But I'm definitely going to try this. Would love to see what your filing routine looks like, if at all different, when you use gel liquids with dip. 🥰

    Prosecutor here... absolutely support getting advanced degrees. one of the (many) courts i'm in is juvenile court and its unreal how much of bandaid for a bullet hole the criminal justice system is. besides the fact that its not really designed for rehabilitation (a discussion maybe for another day haha), even in courts that are designed with rehabilitation in mind, its still not really an effective fix to help prevent future crime and recidivism. the criminal field is never boring!

I took a job in Worker’s Comp but my heart is with helping the mentally ill population. I regret NOT pursuing the clinical route. Thank you for the video! And yes would definitely like to see different shapes and how you do them. Also loving the young nails stuff. I’ve grabbed swipe, glitters, slick pour, hard gel, conversion gel 🤣 Just going a little crazy but when they have a sale I can’t pass it up.
    Lastly I commend you for staying true to yourself and following the path you feel is right versus the shiny ball thrown in front of you. My husband and I bought the business he’s worked at for the last 19 years in the middle of the pandemic. People told us we were stupid or crazy. Others asked if we were really sure about it because ya know, COVID. It has been the BEST decision we’ve ever made and it’s changed our lives for the better!! Good luck to you with whatever you choose 🤗

    Thanks for the great video! Loved hearing your story about your masters.... It sounds like it would be a great fit for you and if it isn't perfect, I doubt it'll be the worst mistake of your life but instead and interesting detour you went down! Love all your videos, so thank you for posting! Instead of using primer I use a gel base coat prior to my gel topcoat, would love to hear if you have thoughts on this! It seems to prevent bubbling and peeling.

      Hey love! Thank you so much for your kind words 💕
      Gel base is a perfect alternative! I find you can use either/or. I usually use the primer bc it’s less bulk on the nails. Just a personal preference. If the base works for you, keep on basing!!

    Beautiful job, as always! Congratulations on your big decision! You will be amazing! I don't think you will be sorry! I was an elementary school teacher, and I liked it, but I made the change to adult ed a couple of years ago, and I am so thankful that I did! Helping adults earn their HS diploma is so rewarding! It not only changes their lives, but the lives of their kids and, in some cases, their grandchildren! When you are passionate about your job, it doesn't feel like work, so I am glad you are following your passion!😊
    Also...a video on filing different shapes would be amazing!🤗
    I am new to the gel top coat method (a couple of weeks), I did a chrome nail this week and used the YN primer before my topcoat and it started wearing off the first night....I buffed it and redid it with primer, gel base, then gel top (I use Dipalicious), and it has been good since Sunday. Otherwisy routine is the same...I wonder why???🤔 Maybe all the Marla videos...🤣🤣 BTW....watched Firefly Lane...they definitely need another season!

    Pretty. Recently I found myself in a domestic violence situation ... After an 11 year relationship ... The only way I was able to put some of the pain and heart ache behind me was to be able to forgive him... This may sound strange to most but holding on to resentment and anger want allow me to move forward with my own life. Doesn't mean I'm going running back to but this is a man I loved and still loved unconditionally. Once I let go of those feelings it was like a weight lifting off my shoulders. I'm not perfect nor am I above him... But once I was able to forgive him I was able to breath again...and start picking up the pieces of my broken heart and life. I'm still heart broken but and I'm allowing myself to have time to heal. Doing my nails and connecting with my awesome nail sisters played a big parr in my " recovery" so to speak. I'm greatful to met all you awesome ladies. If someone is reading this and in a domestic violence situation as I was please reach out get help... There's no shame in asking for help whether it be verbal of physical abuse reach out please... To a friend, a family member , authorities a counselor or even a stranger... Stay safe and god bless❤🙏❤

    All the shapes pre and post dip application! Please! I know dip adds bulk and I'm nervous filing to refine shape after so much because I use peel base and work with water

    • @MarlaKris
      @MarlaKris  Před 3 lety +1

      Yeah I can understand that. I used peel base for this application as well and nothing popped off BUT it’s all about how you apply the peel and the dip base. 1- leave a slight gap near the cuticle with the peel base. 2. Overlap that gap with dip base. 3- cap your edges with base when you’re dipping. That should help keep them on while filing and for a few days after application!

So I am putting gel polish and top coat a rest for a bit. Using just dips and dip top coat for a little while.

    Forensic Psych is such a critical field and not nearly enough programs for those interested in pursuing it. That said, there might be other avenues to pursue what you want to do if you want to focus on the offender side. A master’s in clinical mental health or a master’s of social work (incredibly flexible degree with several concentrations, you’re not limited to work as a social worker) might be a really good path for you. You can focus your practicum and internships in correctional settings. I work with a lot of folks in the field in my community/university and have advised thousands of students interested in the field. I’m sure you have very capable advisors at your school, but if you ever want to chat, feel free to reach out.

    • @MarlaKris
      @MarlaKris  Před 3 lety

      This is fantastic info and insight! My advisor currently is useless.. so I know I have to reach out to the advisors of the schools I’m interested in and go from there. But I might take you up on the offer! If you don’t mind, shoot me an email! Would love to pick your brain!

      Arizona is still an option but not for another couple years. You have to be a resident of a state for one year to qualify for in-state tuition (which is 1/3 of the out of state tuition) so as long as I’m in school.. I’m here. And I’m ok with that.

    Also how do you know if a gel has hema in it

      Great question. Sometimes the ingredients are on the bottle, but if they’re not, you can contact he manufacturer and request an MSDS (manufacturer safety data sheet) and it will list all ingredients. By law, the company has to provide them when requested.

    Violent offenders in the sense of sexual predator are never going to get better... Robbers, murderers , addict's ect their is hope for them... This is such a controversial subject... I hope you can help prevent and break cycles

      It’s really is so controversial. I was hesitant to even speak on it. But I’m not one to lose faith and believe in “never” so I’ll die tryin! 💙

      @@MarlaKris I have tried figuring out why my whole life dear coming from the victim with victim children history repeats itself if one doesn't have the proper counseling and knowledge to change learned behaviors, actions and reactions... Often a violent offere was once a victim that was forgotten and that trauma can cause DID(disasocative disorder)..

      @@MarlaKris no. But some of my cuticles are trashed and have been for almost a solid year now. Even though I haven’t done gels in a couple months now, they’re not healed completely 😕 I DID get some Dipalicious Hema free gel, but scared to try it.

      @@xk3ll3yx yeah I don’t blame ya - and I definitely wouldn’t use any gels until your skin is healed. I’m told tea tree is fantastic for this, but you can get meds from your doc to expedite the healing process.

      @@MarlaKris I went to urgent care and just looking at it (no testing) they said it looked like mersa a major infection. It was oozing pus for a while but hasn’t in months now. They gave me ointment that kinda helped,. Really they just took a guess at it. The cuticle has a gap between the nail and skin. Some of that sticking back together, but it’s taking forever. And my nails are growing out weird now, very fragile. Driving me nuts!

      @@xk3ll3yx that sounds painful. And frustrating. But as they say, time heals all (most at least) and I’m sure as it continues to grow out, it’ll continue to heal.
