Isn't it normal to give your seat to elder people?
obviously everyone does that (if they are human) :)
They meant in general, not just in Korea.
I mean it's a way to respect older people
It's uncommon to Korean people..

@@Idkkk09170 he’s copying and pasting
I had a heartbreaking experience evolving elderly people and public transportation in Korea. It only happened once, but it was quite shocking because giving the seat to an elder is just common sense for me.
While I was in Korea for a semester, I took a red bus to Seoul from Yongin and it was totally full. No seats available. Then, an elderly lady who was probably around 70 got on the bus and the people who were next to her did not get up. I was shocked because she was clearly having trouble to balance herself and nobody seemed to care that she would be standing for almost an hour. So, I got up and got her attention to seat where I was. She thanked me so much that she offered to share the seat with me!
That's so cute!
The world needs more people like you.
I did this in Thailand! The BTS Skytrain was packed, we were practically sardines. An elderly woman managed to squeeze in after a few people got off at a stop and she was absolutely exhausted. She was sweating, trying to calm her breathing and it didn’t help that she was carrying two bags of groceries. No one budged from their seat or anything. Mind you, there are SEVERAL signs of giving up your seat for the elderly and pregnant on the train. I didn’t know the Thai words for “take my seat”, so I had to gently tap her arm, got up, and gestured towards my seat. She said, “kob-khun-nah-kha” (thank you very much) and had the brightest smile on her face. :D
That's SO NICE of you. I had somewhat of a similar experience except the ending was a bit difference LOL..I was in socal taking a local bus when at one of the stops, there was an elderly man having trouble lugging his shopping cart (the ones most elderly people have) onto the bus so I got up from my seat, helped him carry it on board, and gestured him to my seat. I believed him to be grateful as he kept smiling and shaking my hands with both of his. When my stop came at the station, he got off. My friend and I then proceeded to get off and to my surprise, he was waiting for me. He began asking me questions in mandarin: what's my number; how old am I; am I a student; etc. He even began wrapping his arm around my waist and keep in mind this was when I was 18 and he was around 60+... After I somehow managed to escape the situation, my friend was telling me he was ogling at me *shudder*
- I didn't know how to react to the situation atm I was too shocked and yes, I do regret not doing something about it
- I was wearing normal shorts and a sweater, nothing provocative
Cumulus Humilis calm down she was just stating an experience that happened in Korea obviously your fact is wrong since it didn’t show with what happened to this old lady smh

I do that sometimes whenever this happens to me nd In my country algeria it's really rude if u dont apologize nd ignore the person u stepped on their shoes or bumped into!
I always say sorry to them when I bumped into anyone. Am I not a Korean? that irritate me.
true to that, sometimes they even hurted me, so I grab them and told them “ ey, what are you doing? why did you hit me? why did not you say sorry?” and their reaction is always put the head down and keep walking.
Koreans only has manners while work. after work they do not care

So true...especially in a crowded place like the underground mall - prepare to get bombarded. People walking into you all the time 😂😂. It's not considered rude.

Similar with my home country. To greet each other we kiss cheek to cheek
So when I took the subway in Seoul, the old ladies were super nice to me. I was just standing and an old lady motioned to me to grab a seat. She wore a warm and beautiful smile and because I don't speak a word of Korean it took me a while to figure out what she was saying. She was quite lovely.

going to korea next year, this video was super helpful! thank you!!
When i went to s.korea this summer i was shocked to see that a lot of people don't care about elders in the subway, with my friends (we're from france) we were sometimes the only one to leave them our seats !! or another day an old women was struggling to carry her luggage in the subway stairs, and no one stopped to help her, so I went to help her, and she was really shocked, as if it never happened! I thougt koreans respected elders a lot, as you say, but I was kind of surprise to see it wasn't always true..
Well true kinda LolOl
Yeah they don’t help with carrying stuff, holding a door for people etc... idk why it’s just like that
It's a different kind of respect, as respect is subjective. In my country, that would be called hypocrisy, but again, it's subjective.
just because someone is old doesn't mean they're a good person why should someone help them? that's ridiculoius
That has nothing to do with age. I think we all just have to be nice and have good manners with everyone. That's my opinion, my experience, but when you see someone struggling, not matter his age or anything, you just help that person.
Korea: hate when people touch our bodies

Ryn T lol so true, that’s me literally everywhere I go. Like one time I got my weave done REALLY GOOD and like these korean girls they literally tried to touch my hair without my permission and istg I almost slapped a bitch cuz idk how to say don’t touch my hair in korean.
Id like a cup of TAE with SUGA and a KOOKIE 내 머리카락 만지지마!
or if u wanna be a polite 내 머리카락 만지지 마세요.
I don't wear weave, but from personal experiences, if I wear my natural hair out in an afro, bun, or twists, people of other races will start squeezing my hair like its a sponge. I don't know how expensive weave is by the way, but it must be really annoying because I can relate. I tried to play it off once and act civilized, but that didn't work out. 😂
Maya TheDreamGirl honestly so relatable, like also one time I was wearing a wig (don’t ask lol) and i was eating out at a restaurant with some of my friends, and one of my friends friend that I didn’t know, she was literally stoking my head for some weird reason and I really wanted to be civilized but out of habit I slapped her hand away. I feel like mispronunciation can't be helped especially to foreigners or people whose first language isn't ______. You can't really blame someone for not being able to properly speak another language that isn't their first language.
yeah i agree that's kind of unfair. it takes yeeears to start speaking natively at least a decade. i feel like if theyre genuinely trying and not butchering the fuck out of it it shouldnt be a problem bc at least their trying. now if they pull a britney spears thats another thing which i think is what she was talking about
anaperez true . It’s not like as if Koreans speak English either. They should use translator apps
True, but if you take at least an hour to read through an informative page online or a small phrasebook most important information will be there. The incident she recalled had bad pronunciation and rough translation together..
My parents practiced on the plane to Japan and they did just fine, while they keep getting present simple wrong after 20 years so foreign languages are totally not their thing... x)
especially koreans in seoul shouldn't do it since they are a lot of tourists there and they (koreans in seoul) still can't speak english which is a international language
Honestly, as long as you're humble and try your best to communicate in Korean or English, S. Koreans will be happy to help you. In the Korean language, if you skip using honorifics to strangers or older people, it sounds like you're cussing them out (but you don't need to use honorifics with friends or kids). It's just how the language works.
This much viewers are INDIANS!😂💜

I study Japanese and speak english and chinese fluently, I find Korean pronunciation extremely difficult becuase so many things sound the same..........in conclusion......plz halp
I like trains
Chinese is difficult for me korean is very easy for me
Okay. So in korean, they have different consonants that make sounds that are really similar, like tense, aspired, and plain for example. The sound p(ㅂ)and pp(ㅃ) sound almost exactly the same to foreigners and could cause a lot of confusion. Its not that hard to learn if you put effort into it; the korean language was made to be easy to learn.
Honestly what i do when I'm learning is repeat them over and over out loud to myself until i can pick up the distinction between the two. Like the first sounds in 빵 and 바나나. The ㅂ is a softer p sound at the beginning of the word and the ㅃ is more aspirated and more like an actual p sound.
for me Chinese sounds the same... it's so hard :(
You're so pretty and your English is so good! Thank you for the good examples and for the clear explanations!

To be honest, I am a foreigner living in Korea, and I had multiple occasions where korean grannies or ajummas would touch me and say how white my skin is. One of them even touched my face 😳 I dont take it personally but like...
Elder people have the power there, especially women. They can do whatever they want 😂 including touching and pushing you in the bus 😂😂

Sasaengs need to stop. Like if I ever seen one in real life, I’m tripping that bitch. 😂
Well International fans aren't any better....
I see drinking in Korea is like being a young kid in art musem. Full of rules, no fun. Like...stand straight, tilt your head 90 degrees, hold the cup with two hands. etc..
Seems it takes all the fun away which is implemented with drinking. Instead of enjoying your time , all the time you're asking yorself "Have I messed sth up yet or no?"
Thank you .... its very usefull
