I had a heartbreaking experience evolving elderly people and public transportation in Korea. It only happened once, but it was quite shocking because giving the seat to an elder is just common sense for me.
While I was in Korea for a semester, I took a red bus to Seoul from Yongin and it was totally full. No seats available. Then, an elderly lady who was probably around 70 got on the bus and the people who were next to her did not get up. I was shocked because she was clearly having trouble to balance herself and nobody seemed to care that she would be standing for almost an hour. So, I got up and got her attention to seat where I was. She thanked me so much that she offered to share the seat with me!

I did this in Thailand! The BTS Skytrain was packed, we were practically sardines. An elderly woman managed to squeeze in after a few people got off at a stop and she was absolutely exhausted. She was sweating, trying to calm her breathing and it didn’t help that she was carrying two bags of groceries. No one budged from their seat or anything. Mind you, there are SEVERAL signs of giving up your seat for the elderly and pregnant on the train. I didn’t know the Thai words for “take my seat”, so I had to gently tap her arm, got up, and gestured towards my seat. She said, “kob-khun-nah-kha” (thank you very much) and had the brightest smile on her face. :D

That's SO NICE of you. I had somewhat of a similar experience except the ending was a bit difference LOL..I was in socal taking a local bus when at one of the stops, there was an elderly man having trouble lugging his shopping cart (the ones most elderly people have) onto the bus so I got up from my seat, helped him carry it on board, and gestured him to my seat. I believed him to be grateful as he kept smiling and shaking my hands with both of his. When my stop came at the station, he got off. My friend and I then proceeded to get off and to my surprise, he was waiting for me. He began asking me questions in mandarin: what's my number; how old am I; am I a student; etc. He even began wrapping his arm around my waist and keep in mind this was when I was 18 and he was around 60+... After I somehow managed to escape the situation, my friend was telling me he was ogling at me *shudder*
      - I didn't know how to react to the situation atm I was too shocked and yes, I do regret not doing something about it
      - I was wearing normal shorts and a sweater, nothing provocative

Okay. So in korean, they have different consonants that make sounds that are really similar, like tense, aspired, and plain for example. The sound p(ㅂ)and pp(ㅃ) sound almost exactly the same to foreigners and could cause a lot of confusion. Its not that hard to learn if you put effort into it; the korean language was made to be easy to learn.

Honestly what i do when I'm learning is repeat them over and over out loud to myself until i can pick up the distinction between the two. Like the first sounds in 빵 and 바나나. The ㅂ is a softer p sound at the beginning of the word and the ㅃ is more aspirated and more like an actual p sound.

I see drinking in Korea is like being a young kid in art musem. Full of rules, no fun. Like...stand straight, tilt your head 90 degrees, hold the cup with two hands. etc..
Seems it takes all the fun away which is implemented with drinking. Instead of enjoying your time , all the time you're asking yorself "Have I messed sth up yet or no?"
