A privilege to sit in on this lovely warm, funny conversation.
John Waters is a national treasure. Can't wait for the film adaptation of Liarmouth. Favourite line from all the John Waters films: From Polyester, delivered by the incomparable Edith Massey.....
"At first I thought he was walking his dog, and then I realized it was his DATE!"
Wow, Ricki looks great! And John always looks good, he’s so damn cool. So happy he got his Hollywood Walk of Fame star. Love all of his work be it disgusting filth or surprisingly sweet
You can tell they love each other and the movie so much, by how excited they both are.
My dad was a John Waters fan and I saw Hairspray when it came out. I've always loved it and as a chubby girl, I felt very empowered by Tracy Turnblad.
John Waters is in international treasure for all of us weirdos. ❤❤❤❤
"the right people win in all my movies"
im sad he doesnt seem to generate as much buzz as before. love john waters forever, he's one of my biggest inspirations
I'm happy we had the time when he was generating the buzz - we have the movies, or at least know how to get them, and we have the memories. I'd rather be glad it was all here in the first place.
Yeah honestly he’s one of the greatest film makers of our time, because he was so ahead of his time imo. He tackles issues and topics that are still relevant to this day
What a joy these two together.
David here I been a movie buff for over fifty years and I love both Hairspray and Crybaby so much! I could see both movies a hundred times and want to see them again a hundre more times! A great interview! Thanks for posting!
OMGGGGGGGGGG So much better than the remake! I LEARNED everyone of those dances because of this movie! God, I miss Divine
my mom loved this movie she used to watch it all time. you are so 50's
Thank you, John and Ricki you both changed my life more than you know❤
This interview made my night! I need to revisit his films soon.
There are no words to describe his genius. Can't wait to read liarmouth!
always loved his pencil thin moustache .. wonder what Divine would had looked like if he was still here rip Glenn Milstead..
LOVE this !!
Riki Lake looks exactly the same as she did in the 90s…she looks good for 50 …it’s soooo good to see her back on screen.
What a delightful pair!
Love them both!! ❤❤
Love them ❤❤
Those chairs look so comfy
Why am I crying
I love seeing Riki Lake. So glad she moved on from her awful talk show. John Waters is such a warm and generous person with the best stories.
14:30 - Uh, Pink Flamingos was on TCM???
Mrs. Winterbourne was my fave ❤❤❤❤
Ricki is still gorgeous
It’s too bad that Divine isn’t still here with us sitting in on this conversation.
I woulds really love to finally get to see the scene in which Tracy breaks into Amber;s house and dyes her hair and reads her diary. The roaches, I can take or leave, but I really wish I could've seen the break-in - that's REALLY a John Waters scene.
"She's prettier than Elizabeth taylor !"
When do they mention cry baby
I hear Cry-Baby wasn't the big hit the live version of Hairspray was. I don't think it did very well. Shame, though, because the movie was pretty cool. Waters did, however, have a bit of trouble writing nice, sweet dialogue, sometimes stumbling, sometimes trying too hard to be nice. He parodied a romantic moment in Polyester which is what made it so hilarious
It's funny because so many women in the 50s and 60s didn't wash their big hair for fear of it losing shape. The inside would get infested with maggots and all sorts of bugs.
The camera operator for the two-shot should feel shame because the focus is on the fucking wall. Nice, crisp shot of the stuffed animals and toys on the wall with a fuzzy John Waters and a fuzzy Ricki Lake in the foreground.
Did anyone spot the human trafficking company look at these little things turning into slaves like the did to them it’s somebody else
John's foot has a life of its own, very distracting.
I think John lost his creative perspective during the filming Crybaby because of Universal's interference for years afterward. The movie looked like someone tried imitating a John Waters' type "Hairspray" film but only more mainstream. Pecker felt like a cutesy indie film. Cecil D. Demented, although I love Melanie Griffith, was just boring. A Dirty Shame was really a return to John's great humor and irreverence.
He kept the iconic mustache lol
John waters is a national treasure. He’s what Ed wood would have been had he honed his craft and not descended into poverty and alcoholism
The original “Hairspray” with Ricki and Divine is the best. Don’t argue with me, I didn’t make the rules. 🥰🥰🥰
with scratch' n' sniff . . .
@@arielog1941 (buzzer sound) You may want to try "Polyester".
