Indeed, I will need to put it up against the Arturia emulation of the 224 and see how close they are. The hardware is always great, but then even without a 224 your mixes always sound fatastic :D

Mate you have essentially my dream studio. Ir's full of state of the art gear from years past (like that Sync and the 224 in this video), but integrated with a modern computer based setup. Perfection. That 224 still sounds fantastic now. Quality is quality, no matter the era.
Thanks man, I'm actually a little grumpy with using DAW's at the moment which is the reason you see the Atari ST on the desk. I'll still use the DAW for audio but maybe play with Creator\Notator as the sequencer again for a while :D

UAD sounds shattery, cold and twodimensional, IMHO. I know, many people love that UAD 224, me definitely not at all. Their 480L recreation is more on the point, but still not as wide sounding as an original hardware unit. When A/B-ing hardware vs. software reverbs, the only thing that was extremely close is the Savant Audio stuff. Their Quantecs null with my 2 hardware units down to -68dBFS. I'd say they are identical.

Hey! Nice to see you! It sounds sooo good!! Mmmhhh! I can totally understand your excitement! And you got a true piece of history! I bought a first hand PCM70 the other day, which is from the same Lexicon era. It's definitely fascinating how synthesizers are "melting" into this reverb. There is nothing comparable when it comes to plugins, and also newer low budget Lexicons like the MX400 cannot reproduce this transparent deepness. JX-8P Strings through the PCM70s "Large Hall" or "Gymnasium" are highly addictive! 😁There is also a Yamaha REV-7 arriving! They are so cheap now, I just couldn't resist...🤖 All the best from Berlin! 🖖
Indeed I used to have a JX-8P... its a strings machine from the heavens :D You are going to love the REV-7 I suspect it will sound very similar to my REV 5 and that one of my secret weapons to making synths 'sit' in a mix just right! Indeed now is the time to pick up the vintage digital stuff while everyone is looking the other way :D
A guy who has an Atari St on his desk can't be totaly bad! (well, I'm half bad, mine is in the bassment, but 3 year ago it booted and it's monochrom monitor worked) These Lexicons were a revolution in their times, you can see their remote control on every big desks of every big studios in the music magazines we dreamt about. About retrobrighting the LARC: I'm not a big fan of retrobrighting. I've the tendency to prefer things in their historical juice, with the old elephant tusk color of their past. Like me. Would you want you prefered granny with a face lifting and piercings on her intimate parts? I ask the question... 😁
I hear ya, but I guess i'm more of a face lift and nip and tuck guy I guess. Just getting back into the ATARI ST for the first time since 1989! Its amazing how good the software was around then! :D
@@100ThingsIDoyou're right, and the hardware as well, hours of studio work with cubase, a fantastic machine. you added ans sbx80(smpte sync) and you get a full synchronized to tape allowing to replay synth and drum machine during mix
I have been messing about with some HP bubble LED alphanumeric displays pulled from an old language translator, and thought they looked familiar. Must be the exact same displays the LARCs use. That really nice deep red that's hard to get on camera.
Yep, if you check out my instagram I have a photo of the LARC without the cover on it. The HP bubble LED's look amazing. I think I was watching a clip by the IMSAI GUY where he had some pre-production HP LED Displays that looked even more amazing! :D

Plates are always a good start for Vocals. As its 90's rap you would really keep it very very low and short in the mix .. uness you are doing reverb for FX. Hope that helps :D
I think I'll just run individual ones at the moment. I don't use the 300L as much as I am using the 224 so its not so much of the problem. LR4 would be nice but I don't think I have ever seen one for sale on the used market! (or have nto been looking). Hope things are good with you man :D

Back in the 90s, this thing was the reverb to get. Every serious studio either had one or wanted to have one

Fantastic. The UAD 224, Arturia LX24 and Relab Rev 1A all come close but this thing sounds beautiful 💜

I'm a "rich plate" guy for vocals. Interesting that you're using the "rich chamber"...sounds cool on synths!

So, are you able to run both Lexicon's from the same LARC and switch over with the Machine button or now just looking out for a LR4 Framelink?

The 224s are for instruments.
Do you use the split programs ? I am installing one, and questioning if I should wire the 2nd pair of outputs.
