Just recently saw the killer dummy movie Magic (1978) for the first time and it was better than I thought. Supposedly Gene Wilder was one of the original choice for the lead (played ultimately by Anthony Hopkins)--- which I think may have been a better choice; Wilder was a master of playing insane characters tenuously hiding behind a façade of normalcy. The confrontation scene between Hopkins and Burgess Meredith (seriously underrated actor IMHO) where he challenges Hopkins not to talk in the dummy's voice for 5 minutes is masterfully done piece of tension and suspense.

For my birthday yesterday, I somehow slipped into watching 3 westerns back to back. I started with the Don Knotts film "The Shakiest Gun in the West" which was quite fun. Then I stumbled on the "Ox Box Incident" I had no idea how tense those final moments were and Dana Andrews gave an amazing performance. I don't think the tension was helped by me already knowing the ending, but it was still such a great movie to watch, thanks for suggesting it :)
Lastly, I watched "My Darling Clemintine" I have mixed feelings about this one. It was a good western, but not a good historical movie and John Ford claims that this was the way it was told to him by Wyatt Earp. There was no Chihouhwa, no Clemintine, and John Earp died of olf age, and the Clantons weren't cattle rustlers as depicted in the film, they were outlaws. I think I would have enjoyed this film a whole lot more if they created new names for these characters.
Why do creators do this with historical films? I know they'll take liberties with history, but Hayao Miyazaki's "final" film "The Wind Rises"is about Jiro Horikoshi, and most of that film was completely fictional to the real Horikoshi. I loved that movie at first but when I found out Miyazaki deliberately changed all of this, I now find it hard to watch. I'm not asking for a documentary, but if you want to change real history that much, why not just create new characters?

    Nomadland is basically a documentary...
These are real Nomads, playing versions of themselves. It's more about observing them and their lifestyle, than anything else. (IMO) That's the best way to look at it.
I personally feel if they had added more of what Matt was looking for, it would have taken away the authenticity (as far as a fictional narrative goes).
You may now be saying, why not just make it a Documentary? That's a fair argument. I would say back, probably to make it more appealing to a general audience. My mom only watched it because Frances McDormand is in it.

Matt, Craig, I've been watching your show for so long and it's become appointment viewing for me. Now I have to say that because I recently watched Ishtar and to my surprise, I loved it! The market chase scene alone was well worth the admission price (the theoretical admission price, that is) and when I re-watched your review, I found myself disagreeing with some of your points- like the idea that the two main characters couldn't both be buffoons, or that we didn't need all the backstory for them. Just saying, Ishtar... underrated movie!
